I've been busy scanning ALL of my TLE stuff over the last few days. Well I haven't done it all yet, but I am getting there. Here is some recent stuff though :)
Blunt Mag cover - original scan looked like this:
http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/3551/scan0007ab2.jpg
But I have edited it, so its looks roughly how it should! Although, I CBF doing the rest of the text on the disc and the writing behind the inside circle of the disc :p Too lazy!

Nope, but here's the text!!
*edit - i've got no idea why its made the heading separate from the rest of it. Can't fix it either.
Having time out after touring their last album, The Living End found fresh motivation and new, hard-rock riffs
The Living End's fifth studio record White Noise should have been called Leather Pants.
That was the code for the benchmark Chris Cheney, Scott Owen and Andy Strachan used to establish whether a song for the new record was rocking.
"It was more Ozzy than Axl," bassist Owen says.
"No matter how flarey or flowery the pants that you are actually wearing are, if you feel like you are in leather pants while you're playing that riff, it is damn good.
"It feels sorta, a little bit violating. Like you're just offending people by being there. It feels fantastic.
"When we would hear Chris play a riff that was like that, we all got the leather pants attitude on and the song kicked."
The leather pants attitude has already manifested itself in the searing showcases the band has played off the back of the release of the title track single.
The fans are well pleased with the hard-rockin' riffs the band have employed on a record which marks a new phase of their career.
After 10 years with EMI, they jumped ship to independent label Dew Process - home of The Grates, Sarah Blasko, The Panics, Bernard Fanning's solo records, the rest of Powderfinger's side projects and other emerging acts.
But the reinvigorated path of the business side of their music took a while to translate in the rehearsal room. The trio regrouped in mid-2007 after a real-life break, following the concerted live campaign for their fourth studio album State Of Emergency.
"We had a bit of a break after touring the last record and everything, and coming back in we thought we'd get started and not much was happening," Strachan says diplomatically.
Owen adds: "It was a false start. It wasn't the right time."
In short, Cheney had a massive case of writer's block and he wasn't happy.
"It was a bit frightening. I was very frustrated by it, almost angry about it. 'This is f ... ed! It's been three years since the last record so the ideas should be flowing but something is wrong here.' I had to unlock the problem. I knew we weren't burnt out as far as ideas but they were blocked," the frontman says.
"It was a matter of getting away from it. Having done nothing else and been focused on nothing else but The Living End for 10 years, I think it got to the point that it wasn't satisfying. My daughter was born and then we went away (with State Of Emergency). Did that even happen? Did I even have a child?
"It got to the point where I was done. I didn't want to be in the band anymore, I wanted to do something else. As great as it is to do a sold-out tour, seven weeks in Australia, 2000 people a night at some of the shows. We had one break, reconvened and wrote some songs that didn't go anywhere, had another break and did other things. We all chilled the f... out and got happy and then it was 'You know what, we've got something really special here'."
The key to unlocking the block - notwithstanding the power of hanging out with one's family - was simple. Time to ignore what everyone else thought The Living End should be doing on album No 5 and do what they wanted.
Sounds simple enough but when you are carrying the weight of expectations - a new record label keen to make you the biggest Australian rock act releasing an album in 2008 and thousands of fans who set the bar high, Olympics high - sometimes it is hard for a band to get back into their own groove.
"We also learnt not to stress out so much," Owen says. "If things weren't happening straight away, rather than feel pressure, we would relax into it and gave the songs space to breathe until we knocked them into shape. We knew when it was wrong but we didn't strangle it to get it right."
One of the early indicators that The Living End were indeed onto something good for White Noise came with the hard hitting and ironically titled How Do We Know.
The band's rockabilly punk sound assaulted the airwaves and charts with their record-breaking double A side single Prisoner Of Society and Second Solution in 1997. Since then, they have been acclaimed for rock'n' roll rifforama delivered at the kind of performances that engender fear in bands coming after them.
Cheney subconsciously channelled that early writing turmoil into heavy and hard rock riffs, the kind Angus Young would be proud to call his own.
Voila, White Noise was on its way. Friends and family who heard the demos were exultant and heavyweight sonic architects signed onto the project. John Agnello, who helmed albums for Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr, produced and Brendan O'Brien, fresh from completing AC/DC's long-awaited new opus, mixed.
"I don't think that I'm a rock pig but I love those kind of riffs; we all do," Cheney says. "That's definitely come to the forefront of this record. All I was trying to do was write some kick-ass guitar riffs that I don't really hear other bands doing. I was just trying to come up with heavy stuff.
"It's never been high on our agenda to think about what's going to sell. Not with the bloody background we have anyway - trying to get on the radio playing '50s rockabilly initially.
"Nonetheless we decided to do our own thing. And it's the same now. The band has a longevity because it has a timeless rock'n' roll thing about it. We figured with this record that if we feel good playing a song, then other people are going to dig it. There's no better judge of this band's music than the three of us."
The Living End have their hunger back. They want to be commanding stages in front of tens of thousands of fans screaming along to their songs as they bounce to the sky. Not mosh, but dance, according to Owen.
"I feel like we've always played from up here (Owen points to his head) and at the moment we're playing a little more down there. It's all in the hips now. There used to be a lot more thinking going on, now it's groovin'," he says.
Strachan adds: "And my neck is getting sore from rehearsals [from banging it]."
* White Noise is released on July 19. Tickets for the White Noise tour go on sale from July 10. They perform at The Cube, Campbelltown, on September 23, Newcastle Panthers on September 24, Waves, Wollongong, on September 26 and the Enmore Theatre, Enmore, on September 27.

As much as i love them i would never pay to see them if they left out prisoner of society
comments like that just kill me! :(
if people love POS SO MUCH, they can play it on CD over and over again, without forcing the band to serve their needs. because...well,it's just my point of view, but I think it's always a musician who knows better.and listeners should respect his decisions.
I mean - it's not only about music. It relates to other creative, artistic deals as well! Those who look/listen/watch the creation of artistic person should try their best and accept it, if they still like how that person works/creates/plays etc.
Not to dictate one's will. It's ok to share opinions and tell it to band, but it's already rude to think about the band as about an entertaining show when musicians just have to amuse the audience, not to do that they WANT to do - play the songs which they're most proud of!
Colezy

I think it's true for alot of things, if ever I go to the footy with my mum, it's just so she can have a damn good perve on richo's butt.
I reckon Chris would probably want to stop playing POS for that exact reason though, people still think of them as the band that plays POS AND THAT'S IT..
Instead probably want to be thought of "oh yeah..they play that POS song right?? yeah, have you heard White Noise? Fuck yeah, great song"
A lot more to em then just POS
Colezy
07-04-2008, 02:14 AM
Yeah, well that's what half of the boppers who turn up are there for.
In 2006 at their Hobart gig, the girls behind me were there purely for End of Fashions and their lead singer and for Chris. They admitted that they didn't know many songs, and the ones that they did know, they hardly knew the words to them.
One girl also thought that the lead singer from the hobart support band was in End Of Fashion. Some EOF fan she was!!
*edit - that reply was a little slow :p

hahah at come together, i was waiting at cloaking room and this girl was telling her friend how she's seen the living end 3 times and they're the greatest band and then she starts sing "and if you count to 3, you'll see its no emergency, you'll see im not the emeny, just a VICTIM OF SOCIETY"
and i BURST laughing and i was like "excuse me but are you being serious" and she looked at me and goes "what?" (as in like a "what" as if to say "i didnt say anything wrong")
and i laughed even harder and wispered profanity's under my breath and walked away
that was SO annoying.
and the worst thing is i left coz i couldnt stand sitting next to her and she kept singing it and i wanted to shoot myself :)

I thought that i might miss Prisoner a little bit, bit I haven't!
That's a good sign for the band. They're overdue to be moving on from that.
And i know they love Second Solution, and always thought it was a better song, and one that they're proud of, but in all honesty, they could probably drop that too. I think it's probably come time where they can pick a song off Self Titled *at random* to put in the setlist. Let's be honest, a good majority of fans probably know all the songs off it, so it wouldnt be to the detriment of a show to have a different self titled track included.

Yeah thats true, always striving for a new audience I guess. Thing is I know too many people who say "The Living End? Ah their first album was good, they're crap now." These people are not intellectual;) :p
But yeah, alot of people cannot get over the fact that TLE want to write poppier songs, in part to broaden their fanbase. And there's nothing wrong with that at all!

AHH. I hope it got recorded. D:
I came about 1/3 of the way through white noise. it was nice, but chris' voice was...sorta unlike him. I had trouble remembering it was him.
but the news you want to hear..
i have about 2 minutes of wake up 'lil suzy..
HERE!
I converted the file using http://media-convert.com, i'm shamelessly plugging this, as it is a god damn life saver ^_^
and now,
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4M3LJ2SL
i must stress, it comes in a bit through the song. it isn't the whole thing. I should have started recording as soon as i heard it
interetsing side note: after cal disses ed for not knowing the song, scott says "yeah, we only said the title like...FIFTEEN TIMES"
another: Andy used his wallet as a percussion instrument. his excuse was "well, all i could bring in was a snare and brushes, so i had to inprovise"

Travis: The ugly forest is meant to be run through, but we stumbled.
Chris: Yeah, we got beaten with the ugly stick.

and since when has the muso's corner turned into links and clippings...*grumbles* damn musos...

Page 5 of the Australian today has an ARIA article. It literally doesn't even mention TLE, but the photo is large, and features our boys with one of the Yunupingu brothers (of Yothu Yindi fame). He also claimed 4 noms.
The last edition of The Australian's "Wishes" magazine liftout also has a TLE photo in it...but only a small one. It's attached to an article about the guy who won the bidding war for their signature back when they first burst on the scene. They also barely rate a mention in that article.
Love, Me.
