Of course not. Everyone on this board only listens to new age punk pop & emo. I hear the Britney Spears website has a good following of old school punkers however.

I like old-punk, but not new 'old punk'. The new stuff that trys to sound like the old stuff, I reckon, is boring and annoying. But I love The Clash and a bit of the pistols is alright, although I haven't really listened to anyone else from the era, I kinda moved on to other things before I got further into it.

I think most people who like the Living End (who have liked the band for more than one album), would have been aware of most of the Living End's earlier influences and gone back and checked them out. That's how I find out about most of my old music which amazingly all streams back to a number of bands in the 40's/50's.

and I agree you can hear alot of old influences musically for the living end but I'm tryin' to get a specific discussion going. If I'm being a dick I'm sorry and don't mean to be but I'm drunk and yeah. one hting I love about the living end is they take influence from all the musical styles I love and mash it together into one thing which to be honest most bands can't pull off without being shit. Yet here they are the living end pulling it off not only good but amazing

Danzigs solo stuff is way better than the misfits ever were. Nearly double the albums too. I just can't get into the misfits very much, however I love danzig, though you wouldnt call it punk but more of a bluesy metal sort of thing.
Anyway I saw danzig upon his last tour of Australia just over two weeks ago, and wow, what a show... he brought doyle with him(closest one would ever get to an actual misfits reunion) as a special guest and it was pretty much one of the best shows I have ever seen. Didn't even sell out which is pretty sad cause there are so many 'omg i love the misfits' people out there with shoelaces, air freshners and other shitty consumer products(Jerry Onlys doing).... And they don't even know about Danzigs many solo works.

Anyway.. such a good show, here is a photo I took from it.. Doyle & Danzig!

The Australian X? Man they're good. I've got their 1st and 3rd album, still trying to track down their 2nd.

As for old punk.. I like The Stooges, MC5, Ramones, the Pistols, The Clash. I admit, i've still got to dig deeper.. i'm interested in checking out all the Richard Hell and Johnny Thunders stuff, and The Damned and The Dickies.. i'll get around to it one day.

The new Misfits shouldn't even be called Misfits, the two Black Flag dudes out number Jerry Only..

You mean like: Rancid, The Disables, The Unseen, The Casualties, Anti-Flag and so on???

The Unseen were in Sydney on the weekend, I was never fussed on seeing them, though my mates who did go, said they were great.

what about the misfits? they put on a good show

They broke up around '83, so they don't put on a good show no more.

mel-bound the clash is amazing and the pistols are OK

Pistols never really did anything for me.. though I did listen to them for a while and do own Filth & The Fury. One thing that annoys the shit out of me is the people who love Sid Vicious.. he couldn't sing, couldn't play bass, was a junkie, killed his girlfriend.. yeah really great guy to look up to.

The Clash.. what can I say, If you don't like The Clash... you don't like rock 'n' roll. London Calling is one of the best rock n roll albums of all time and if you don't have it in your music collection, you're missing out on a huge piece of music history, you can grab it for $10, some places less these days, so do yourself a favour.

To me The Living End are the modern day version of The Clash, they experimented each album and I loved everything they did.. as goes TLE.

I love a lot of old school punk. I grew up on a lot of it in the high school days.. as many do. Though I only mainly listen to The Clash/Social D/Ramones when it comes to old school these days. Buzzcocks were just out here and I missed them.. again.

The Angelic Upstarts were suppose to play Wasted Festival in Melbourne a few weeks back but they pulled out for some reason.

Social Distortion do count as old school punk, they began in 77/78.

Australia have many great old school punk bands, but I don't think anything comes close to Radio Birdman. I saw The Stooges a the big day out this year, and it was so insane, one of the best sets I had ever seen in my life. I loved it.

the X I'm talking about is an 80's american band

Check out the Australian X. Ian Rilen the bass player/singer was one of the founding members of Rose Tattoo, he wrote Bad Boy For Love, but wasn't in the band when it was a hit. He left because Angry thought the songs He were writing sounded too punk and because their management wanted them to do Rod Stewart songs.

http://www.myspace.com/australiax - it's the unofficial myspace page, but it's got some songs up for download.

http://www.myspace.com/ianrilenandtheloveaddicts - Ian's current band.

The Tatts are awesome. They still rock harder than most the bands around today. Angry gave TLE some praising when they got inducted into the Aria hall of fame.. which I thought was cool.

Search for The Wrongs on Youtube, it's a band made up of Chris Cheney, Ian Rilen, Brad Shepherd (Hoodoo Gurus), Phil from Grinspoon and the drummer from The Vines. The played Bad Boy For Love as a tribute to the Tatts slide guitarist Pete Wells. They did it well I thought.

I love The Ramones and The Clash. The Pistols are pretty good and i also like the misfits. My friend is a dickhead though. He said The Ramones where shit because there songs didnt go for 3 minutes or more and he also said that tle were Emo. I nearly punched him in the face. Hes annoying about his music taste because hye only listens to pop and thinks that all punk is emo.

yeah its not that hard to figure out grumma.

They have a huge following with all the people buying the shiny CDs of theirs. If they put out anything new, or had a tour, you would have heard about it. The fact that they haven't put out a new CD, done a tour recently, and no-one has developed a potion that brings people back from the dead yet, usually means The Ramones are no more.

Jawn

I know; in fact I honestly dont think Ive ever heard a Ramones song :p

ok... I can say they are shit because I have endured their songs. How can you say they are shit if you have not heard a Ramones song?

Lets do a mock role play dialog between you and some Ramones fan (known as SRF) to see where your arguement will fall apart if you ever argued the musical benefits of the Ramones:

SRF- "Oh man. Ramones are the best. They were loud, raw, destructive, and gave us a sense of couldn't-give-a-shit. They revolutionised music"

Grumma- "No. they are shit"

SRF- "Oh? Explain? What Ramones have you heard?"

* sound of Grumma's point about Ramones being crap shot to pieces, and his credibility in ruins *

Grumma- "I like Metal"

*Grumma grunts like a gorilla because metal heads are our closest relative to the primate. They are probably The Missing Link.*

One thing that annoys the shit out of me is the people who love Sid Vicious.. he couldn't sing, couldn't play bass, was a junkie, killed his girlfriend.. yeah really great guy to look up to.

You'll find that the people only like Sid Vicious 'cos he 'hot', when i used to post on the Pistols forum so many people would join and be like "Sid Vicious is Sooooo hot". Once you actually learn about the pistols and Sid, people would stop loving him!
He only played one or two songs on their actual album too.
I don't know why they see him as an icon, Johnny is the one that made the impact along with the others.

Yeah Buzzcocks played in Auckland a couple of weeks ago too, i was rather devistated i couldn't see them!
Also another great old school punk band would be The Damned, they're awesome! The Heartbreakers too!!

Yeah the Stooges were bloody amazing at BDO!!... Iggy was so energetic and always had the crowd going, i remember a girl beside me was like "...He's like nearly 70!... he might die on stage and we'd be a part of history" hahaha... :P

Now new age punk has more rots into moregenres than it used to look at TLE or greenday they mange to even cross genres like on SOE album alone we have nothing lasts forever and into the red nothing alike and the dramatic changes overtime (Thankfully keeping the anthemic choruses going) they are now a musically more diverse band than ever

Hey! We are in old punk from 14 years! But we never limited ourselfs. We love many of new bands too.
we like
Social Distortion
Sex Pistors
Clash
Toy Dolls
Misfits
Ramones
The Exploited

When we was 14-19 we live in small town and many of old punk band's records was really rare. We always wonder why The Expolited was such popular in post soviet area and nobody mentioned it on US and another foreign forums. we also have a strong russian punk scene - band's like "Automatic satisfactors" and "Purgen".
Now we find listening of old english punk bands whish records we couldn't find before very interesting for us. And some new bands too such as "Billy Talent".
