I like a few of those bands. This seems like a nice excuse for a victorian holiday. If anyone that I know if going and wants to share this experience with me. Maybe.

I really wanted to go last year. From memory it was Grinspoon and Gyroscope I specifically wanted to see.

And I'd love to go for TLE and Silverchair this year except it's incredibly doubtful seeing as I won't be able to sway many friends to come and my parents wouldn't be too keen on letting me go either. Besides...New Years parties!

Ah well...

I might go because I hate new year's, unless it involves a concert. I'd go to see TLE, Silverchair and Karnivool.

Oh man. I think my parents want to go to Melbourne for a holiday at the end of this year. I don't know if they meant a family one or just them, but if they go, I am so going too! I'd love to see Silverchair, TLE (duh!) and a few of the others. One of my good friends would love it too, especially for silverchair and cause she couldn't see TLE last weekend!

So is anyone seriously considering this?

I've never caught TLE for a NY gig.... Could be fun with the right people to share with!! :)

If your seriously thinking of going count me in lol. But just keep in mind I think *maybe* I'm going home for Xmas this year (hell knowing me I'll end up hanging in Melbourne) but I'm planning on coming back on the 29th even if I do go, so we could head there either that arvo or the next day, whichever would suit you honey......

I forgot to tell you that I got a ghd straightener too, it should arrive next week. Not as exciting as your oven but it's up there!!!!!

For anybody who has been before, do you leave your car at the same site of your tent (not somewhere different). I want to know because:
- I might just sleep in my car
- I don't want to leave my car elsewhere

I emailed Pyramid with a couple of questions and they replied with answers to a heap of questions (some of which I was wondering and wasn't sure whether to ask). Here's what I got:
Yes there are full camping grounds within the event,
Â
And yes at this years event there is going to be a limited capacity ‘early arrivals camping option, So on Friday the 29th of December keen campers can get there a day early, set up their campsites and enjoy some warm summer moonlight cinema amongst the waves. There is a small additional cost for this incorporated into the ‘extra night tickets’ for more information please refer to the ticketing details.
Â
Patrons are encouraged to camp on site at the event,
{Within / next to their vehicles is fine by us}!
There is adequate room for tents, campervans and the like, {caravans will be ok too}
Camping areas are positioned within easy walking distance to the entertainment areas also,
{i.e.: No long treks to the stage/s}
Â
And yes if you rock up together at the event gates at the same time with your friends you should all be fine to camp together no worries. For traffic management reasons it’s not be possible to reserve neighbouring spots once inside the venue campgrounds. There will however be a signposted ‘meeting point’ past the processing area where you can wait for friends so you’re able to enter the campgrounds together. Please follow our staff traffic controller’s directions as they direct you to your parking/camping spot.
Â
With the exception of the ‘early arrival ticket’ holders (Fri 29th Dec), there is no added cost for any camping (Sat 30th & Sun 31st) it’s all included in the ticket.
Â
Yes punters attending Pyramid Rock Festival will be allowed to come and go via shuttle bus once they have their wrist bands affixed. There are no pass outs for cars once they enter the campground area. Once in the campground area cars are not to be moved or started until the Festival finishes on the morning of January 1.
Â
Patrons will have to leave and re-enter the event via the shuttle buses that will be operating for the duration of the event. A free shuttle bus service will run for the duration of the event to and from the temporary carpark where patrons will be able to get connecting Phillip Island shuttle services and taxis. A parent drop off point will also be located at the temporary car park area. Just look for the ‘temporary carpark’ signposts on Back Beach Rd. The entrance is 100m past the main entrance to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
Â
Local patrons wishing to come and go from the event by car are advised to use the temporary car park located just past the entrance to the Grand Prix Circuit. Free busses to the venue will be running from the temporary car park.

Bec

I don't suppose anybody knows where exactly the shuttle busses go to? I sent them an email about it but it would be good if I could find out soon so we can book accomidation, as the parentals do not wish to camp.

there;s a shop with a pirate room in Cowes! We must visit :p

Bec
09-24-2006, 02:05 AM
No I haven't, the part where most of the streets and stuff are doesn't look too big on the Melways :p

Wow, a pirate room? I'm so there!

But yeah, it isn't that big. But it's the place where most of the "stuff" is.

Bec
09-24-2006, 02:12 AM
No you didn't sound rude! I'm sorry if I gave the impression that you did. I wouldn't have a clue about Phillip Island. I'm really excited about this :D

cdejonge
09-24-2006, 02:18 AM
Nah, you didn't give that impression. I was just thinking I sounded rude when I typed it originally, but was too lazy to rephrase it. Phillip Island's nice. Pretty relaxing, although will probably be packed that time of year!

Bec
09-24-2006, 02:24 AM
Haha okay then. I think we're gonna go up a day or two earlier two avoid traffic, though it would probably be pretty heavy then too. Are you definately going then? You'll have to come say hi if you see me!

Haha okay then. I think we're gonna go up a day or two earlier two avoid traffic, though it would probably be pretty heavy then too. Are you definately going then? You'll have to come say hi if you see me!Yep, pretty sure. Gotta check if my friend wants to get the early bird tickets though. Did you see about that? They have that to beat the traffic like you're planning to.

Yeah, I guess we can all meet up when TLE are playing (once we know times, etc). I think a few forum people are going. But yeah, if I see and recognise you I'll say hi, and vice versa.

Bec
09-24-2006, 02:31 AM
Yeah but we're not camping anyway so the early bird tickets don't matter to us.
I'd really like to camp but my parents aren't too happy about that unless I'm with some adult they know and all, so I guess I'll have to wait a few years for that.
Oh and I think Mel is coming up with me. I don't think I know what you look like but I'm sure I can find out between now and then.

cdejonge
09-24-2006, 02:34 AM

by Paul Cashmere

September 27 2006

Silverchair will play a New Year’s Eve show this year in their hometown Newcastle, north of Sydney.

The gig will be a one-off for the band, before they release their new album in the new year.

"It will be great to get a chance to play to all our friends and family again", said Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies. "Doing this gig will save us all from throwing any New Years Eve parties, we can just invite everyone down to this gig instead! We're also really pleased that Beautiful Girls and Something with Numbers have agreed to be part of it too - it should be fun."

Sessions for the new yet-to-be titled Silverchair album is complete but mixing won’t start until just before Christmas.

The band says they will have the album out in the first half on 2007.

I guess that means they'll be playing on the 30th at Pyramid? That's if you trust those Undercover Music emails :p

I think we only had to pay an extra $6.75 for ours, though we got them from the ticketmaster place in person so we don't have to pay postage or anything.
Mel and I have the two day tickets but we're booked into the appartmenty place from the 29th til the 5th (we might not stay the whole time but the prices were done weekly so it would have cost the same if we booked less days)

I'm getting way too excited about this even though it's not for a few months.

It's not that hard. You get there, you pitch a tent, and you drink a lot and watch a few bands.

Word from the wise - take baby wipes for a "shower" and your own toilet paper.

The mosh at Pyramid is easy, nothing like Big Day Out or anything. Unless you're uber keen you won't have to camp out on the barrier all day.

And Cam - that's just gross :p Though there are a lot of girls that run around in bikinis or less.

Yeah, I checked out the site. I guess I'm more getting at the feel of it. Knowing how it'll run, how early I've gotta be there to try and get a good spot, how packed it's gonna be ... I don't think I'm really articulating that well lol.

Yeah. My mum's fiance's sister's daughter lives in Phillip Island, I'm going with her kids and one of their partners. I'm really not too sure how we'll all be getting there or whatever, all they said is that they don't camp out cause they live pretty close. There'll probably be a lot of last minute planning. But they've gone every year it's been running, so I trust they'll know exactly what's going on.

I'll be sure to leave you food! Now, if you have vanilla coke that may be a different matter...

Ooh on TLE's myspace it says:
Dec 31 2006 8:00P Pyramid Rock Festival (NYE) Phillip Island

I dunno if the time and everything is right or not but I really hope it is New Years Eve they're playing! Though it would be cool if they played late enough to bring in the New Year. Or they could play from 8 til midnight? I'd be happy with that :D

For those who are heading there, hope its better then last years. Not that I had a bad time, but it wasn't organised very well, the 7 hours of sitting in traffic once we actually got there - so not including the actual time it took for us to get to Phillip Island - was horrible.

When I go to Falls Festival I bring those baby wipes with me, one of the most important things to take along!

The atmosphere was really friendly and laid back though. Wish I had the money for tickets!

I have a question: Did many people walk around with backpacks at the festival? I want to stash my food, clothing, camera, etc in there. It wasn't a problem at BDO. Only problem I can see is it getting in the way in the mosh.

Yeah, baby wipes or just any kind of facial wipes are really, really good for festivals!

Talking about the long car trips and waiting in lines reminds me and the 2004-2005 falls festival at Marion Bay. Nearly everyone that I knew there had to wait 4-5 hours to get in, plus the 30 mins it took them to get in the general area. On the other hand though, myself and the 3 friends I went with took a total of 35 minutes. That's from the moment we left my friends house, to the moment we got in the gates! :p We had the advantage of being locals and knowing the "back roads" cause falls is held only about 30km from out houses! Everyone else was spewing when they found out!

I have a question: Did many people walk around with backpacks at the festival? I want to stash my food, clothing, camera, etc in there. It wasn't a problem at BDO. Only problem I can see is it getting in the way in the mosh.
If you take a bag, make it small and make it light-weight. It sucks having to carry a bag all day. Plus if its small, there is less chance that other people will want you to carry stuff for them! :p Oh and if you take it in the mosh people will get pissed off and your food will no longer be edible! :p

and is there any chance of us 'bumping' into TLE around the festival?
I don't know about bigger festivals like BDO, Homebake and maybe even Pyramid, but at falls, the only bands/artists wondering around were the local ones cause they can go unrecognised. As for TLE, heaps of people would be stopping them to talk/have photos/get stuff signed because of their little popularity burst recently, so maybe they'd just get there when they need to be there?? Also, don't they have a gig the day beore aswell as the day after??

The only time I know of someone meeting a band at a festival is a few of my friends who at the 04/05 falls got past security and met Missy Higgins, John Butler, Spiderbait and a few local acts. They even got a glimsp of TLE too, but they're not really into them so they didn't say hi. Too bad they didn't take me! :p

I visted Pyramid Rock on biology camp. This was like a week after Pyramid tickets went on sale and I wasn't allowed to go and I was cranky when I saw the rock and then the smelly old hairy crappy boring tour guide informed me that he had HIS tickets. I felt like chucking him off the rock pool we were meant to be surveying.

I can't imagine a better way to ring in the New Year, honestly. *sigh*
I'm going crazy at the moment entering a bunch of Pyramid competitions. Even if I do win any though, apparantely the parentals still don't like the idea. Grrrrr... If i win though, there is nothing in the universe that'll stop me going!

I'd LOVE to go. My friend and I are nearly depressed cause she is a Silverchair nut and then there's TLE for me, so we'd pretty much be in heaven for the whole trip. Who wants to pay for us to get over there and magically find us tickets???

I entered a few comps, too, but mainly cause of the whole 'backstage pass to meet The Living End' portion of the prize. If I won I'd sell my ticket pretty cheaply, but I wont, I never win anything haha.

I emailed about set times and got this:
Hi Cameron,

Thanks for your interest in Pyramid Rock Festival,
In response to your question/s:

A timetable outlining the entertainment schedule (and full line up) will be posted on the website shortly, (if not already existent and available online)

Please feel free to subscribe to our website mailing list and receive exclusive member’s updates on any Pyramid Rock Festival announcements & competitions,
Didn't really help me ...

Whups! I only saw this now, and yeah, it was. That sucks =( I registered back whenever it was to vote for TLE for Oz Artist of the Year so I had no issues there. That stupid site makes my computer lag so badly, though.

That mailing list is crap. I've only gotten one email. Almost all the news/updates I've read about here.

and I've actually won something from that mag too, *ME*, so there's much chance that someone would win those tickets. :p

If we vote for more than one song it won't work Mel! You can have Ape Face next TLE gig :p Speaking of that, I saw some festival in NSW in April next year. Awesome lineup including TLE and Hilltop Hoods. Oh, and Wolfwother :s

I doubt it will work. At best, they'll probably play the EP Medley, which is great but just isn't enough for me :( If they don't do any old stuff, I hope they play Monday.

Bec
12-15-2006, 10:59 PM
When I asked Scott after the first gig at the palace about whether they could play FHOI the next day he did say it was possible.
But they'll probably want to play some more recent stuff.
