I just won 2 free tickets to see The Casanovas at Ruby's, Belgrave this Saturday night. Anybody want to use the 2nd ticket?
THE CASANOVAS
Saturday 9 Sep
Balls to the wall' rock n' roll - an entertaining live show with their sometimes tongue in rock histrionics. Melbourne's own The Casanovas - tours of the UK, Japan, USA, Indonesia, New Zealand - 2005 saw a US deal with indie label, IROCK to record their incredible sophomore album with legendary producer Sylvia Massy Shivy -'All Night Long'. Single "California' rockin' up the charts right NOW. With The First Time Hookers + The Black Guns. Tix $15 + bf - $18 door.
Look, I'm famous!
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h121/cdejonge/Music/stuff/CasanovasComp-small.jpg
haha! - good work Cam!
:)
the first time i saw the Casanovas was amazing - i was right in front of Tommy's *ahem* guitar...
my friend nearly got knocked out by the thing - it was pretty cool!
i miss seeing live music... :(

*M!Awww. Thanks for that info. I had heard of them but wasn't sure if I liked them. I've been checking out some songs on their site and realised I knew some of their stuff. It should be good!
I'm listening to The Casanovas - Keep It Hot
i don't actually know much of their stuff - but the first time the certainly put on a show (and Tommy is not too shabby to look at either so i guess that may have helped a little... *giggles*)
i saw them when they supported TLE in 2003/2004 for the Modern Artillery tour - they were only OK then - but i suppose i'd gone specifically to see Chris, Scott and Andy - anything less wasn't really gonna get me going...
i think my fave song of theirs is Shake It... it still gets me pumped! :)

They didnt even own TLE's early stuff till they came over here earlier in the year after being told they sound so much like them.
Yeah, I can kinda see where you're coming from. (to Yvonne)
Similar sound. In fact, it scared me at first. Thought we'd found the missing hellbound sessions or something.
But with virtually identical influences it's not surprising even if they are the other side of the globe.
However, for me, SS pick up somewhere around ST/Roll On era, and take the sound where I thought TLE should have gone.
Plus, SS still has one of the things I miss most about TLE gigs...
It's just 3 guys, roughing it out, getting up, and playing their instruments. Raw and vibrant.
Not the whole 'show' that TLE has become...
Viva la Soup!
Everyone should totally check out these guys

I saw them at the Roxy, it was their first show ever, it was supposedly a "secret" show, only $10. They did their new cd from beginning to end, it sounds sort of like Blink since Mark is singing and Travis is playing, but the songs are darker and more mature. I don't like Tom so I thought it was a lot better, not so snarky. There were only 350 people and I was in the front, Mark was right in front of me. Travis has a clear drum kit, except for the very front, it glows a yellow green color. They gave us +44 tshirts that had a label inside saying it was their first show ever and the date. I got Travis' setlist. I went with a photographer who snuck in a camera, he sent me over 200 pictures, I'll post some if I ever get them unzipped. I thought they were great and their new guitarist Craig, not bad to look at.

I posted about it a page or two back. Can we not quote from more than one post anymore, it was easy on the old forum, I'm not sure how to do it here? Anyway, it's post #73 in this thread.
No, I haven't posted them on the Blink forums, I went with a photographer and he took these and sent them to me, I have over 200. I'll post more if anyone wants to see them.

Something With Numbers was good last night. Bang! is probably one of the best venues I've been too. It's built around the old Melbourne Jail so you can see the old doors and bars and stuff. Extremely clean too. Unfortunately because it's primarily a night club, the bands don't get long sets. But there were only two bands and it finished not too late so I was happy.
Something With Numbers are always great to see live. They have a really unique energy. I spoke to the lead singer before the gig. Also got some free badges.
They have two shows in November at Ruby's and then East Brunswick. Also playing with Panic! At The Disco.
EDIT: Glenn would have loved the crowd. Lots of "suicide girls" girls. :p

The Dying Start

Awesome shit. When's the CD coming out, do you know?

It's November 14 I think, it's definitely November, that's in the US, I don't know about Australia. I can't find the link anymore.
They filmed a video for their new single the night after the show I went to, they used their fans and it was a live performance. That video I linked to isn't their first single but it's really good, it's all about the B-182 break up. Somebody has already made a video of it on youtube using Blink footage.

From the songs i've heard, +44 sound awesome. It's definitly non-Blink sounding which is good in its own way(I defintily rate the B182 self titled as one of my favourite albums, definitly my favourite Blink album. So different.), although you can definitly feel certain blink elements which is rad but nonetheless entising. When Your Heart Stops Beating has 80s The Cure tones written all over it, it's great.

Burn the City were good again last night. I think they only have the 10 songs that are on their album, but they seem to mix the setlist up every time I see them which is good. And I'm starting to learn the lyrics slowly. Didn't notice anybody else singing along. Didn't get the best first impressions of the area around East Brunswick but hopefully won't put me off going there because there's some good gigs coming up there. The crowd inside was good - no dickheads.

None of these are new discoveries, but they've been on high rotation for me lately.
Oxymoron - http://www.oxys.de/, http://myspace.com/theoneandolnyoxymoron (made by a fan, but there are a few songs on there) - I was very randomly introduced to these guys about 8 years ago but the cd I was given got misplaced soon after and I didn't find it until a couple of years ago. But since then I've ordered every cd I could find.
Suspect Seven (aka Kingtide, The Stomp, Backdoor Stomp!) - Suspect Seven is their newest name but I've been a fan of these guys since the Backdoor Stomp! days. The lineup's changed quite a bit over the years - the original lineup was started by Tommy 2-Tone from the Funaddicts - but I still dig their music. http://www.suspectseven.com - still under construction. To get an idea of what they're all about though try http://myspace.com/kingtideska. If you can get your hands on a copy of Backdoor Stomp "Steps In The Alley" I'd recommend it (doubt that it's still available anywhere though).
Nice to see a few TLE kids getting into the Universe...
And by the way, they are EXCELLENT live, I've gotta stop myself from going to too many gigs though, scared I'm gunna get sick of them... Am already sick of the "Mick, the best double bass player in the universe" joke... hehehe :p

Anyone who likes good music should pick up Ian Moss - Six Strings.
It's entirely acoustic. Just Ian and a guitar. It's superbly recorded too...he didn't have a pickup in the guitar, it was recorded via an ambience micrphone...so the sound is really robust and it sounds FANTASTIC.
He plays a couple of AWESOME blues tracks, some jazz, and even the old Chisel stuff comes up a treat on the acoustic. It's different but it's probably my favourite album i've picked up in the last 6 months.

Yeah, opening track. He also does Tucker's Daughter which won him one of many ARIAs back in 91 or whenever it was.
He also does a FANTASTIC cover of Creedence's Green River...which is one of my favourite songs anyway...but this cover of it is brilliant. Even though I'm not sure he quite get's the same effectiveness from the guitar hook, you wouldn't notice.
There's also an impromptu cover of Purple Haze on there!

Yeh, they are!
When they came and played, I thought they were good, and they were standing around after but I didn't talk to them. Then I realised they played with TLE, I was like DAMN!
Goodnight Nurse suck! They're good guys and all but musically, they suck. They did the schools tour thing in Australia aswell????

What the hell lol!!! I thought the bands that did the schools tour thing only do it in NZ. Guess not...if that's the case, the next NZ band on your school sidestep is Falter. They're pretty good and are influenced by TLE.

Well I think that's the only one that's played at our school but I'll look out for 'em :p
A band played at our school once, I can't remember what they were called though. All the kids at my school were "Lyke OMG I luff *insert band name here*" One week later, noone spoke of them. It's a good idea going around and playing at schools though.

Saw em live and thought "yeah theyre alright" then when I listened to a couple of songs on myspace I was a tad put off

Yeah it is. Got bands like Steriogram, Goodnight Nurse off to a start, but mainly Steriogram because they got recognised/signed by Capitol Records not too long after their schools tour thing.

I've already posted a couple bands on here, but I'm back here again to find people for a new upcoming band.
Maldroid. (www.myspace.com/maldroid)
They're really good. I mean, I like a few odd bands but in show that a lot of others like them just as much, they had songs on the radio before they even played a show! They were also the winners of the youtube underground contest with thier video for "He Said, She Said".
My friend and I teamed up to make a fan site dedicated to them with approval from the band themselves and were hoping to gain a few Ausi fans!:p
Robot Resistance Movement (www.myspace.com/maldroidfans)[our fan site]
and if that don't sell you, their newest video "Heck No(I'll Never Listen To Techno)" is all Lite Brites!
which I think is the coolest thing ever! hahahaha

Pft. Tees are only too small when you can't get them off by yourself without dislocating your shoulder :)
Bec - size medium, but i'm a 10 and it's too small (see above) a size 8 person would suit it. And its free
My friend doesn't think it would fit but if you can't find anyone else to give it to then she could try it on and if it doesn't fit she could find someone else to give it to. And she also says that there aren't any Australian Jet forums at the moment but there are a few Australians on the other forums.
