Okay.
So I'm half deaf from too many gigs without plugs, and am struggling with shitty recordings to make out lyrics, but I knooow some of you out there have better sounding recordings, AND I know that some of you are freaks and can remember lyrics after only hearing them once or twice (unlike moi!)

So maybe we can put together our collective ears and figure out the lyrics as they are thus far (remember, they're still be worked on, so they may change), and that way we'll all be able to sing along a bit better at shows before the album gets recorded!!!

Here goes, we'll kick it off with:

Loaded Gun
With a loaded gun, with a loaded gun in our hands
We can not decide the fate of a man

Did you hear what happened to that poor man
when they found him at the station tonight?
He was shot in...
while waiting for a train

…had no choices, we did what we were forced to do

With a loaded gun, with a loaded gun in our hands
….decide the fate of a man

He was his mothers one and only son.
But to everybody else he was public enemy #1

Fits the profile, there'll be no trial.
There is nothing left to say.
So what he’s insane, he’s just one of them.
I won’t lose any sleep tonight.

…..
…..wants more than a…

With a loaded gun, with a loaded gun in our hands
…. we can decide the fate of a man

He was his mothers one and only son.
But to everybody else he was public enemy #1

With a loaded gun, with a loaded gun in our hands

He was his mothers one and only son.

Raise The Alarm

woah woooahetc.

well i may not believe in god, doesnt mean im a lesser person, i still have a heart.
And I know what it feels like to be broken

I may not believe in Jesus, but I believe in sacrifice
Life doesnt always state a reason, and no-one ever gets the chance to live it twice

And I'd rather risk my fate than lose my faith in the loving the hating that constant debating the chaos the calm raise the alarm.

We live and we die, we ... deny, the chaos the calm, raise the alarm

Whoa whoa whoa Raise the alarm

I do not believe in regret, but i believe in salvation.
Somethings I'd rather forget. we choose what we see and we see what we choose to believe.

In the name of the father, the son, and the holy ghost, I'm not concerned with religion, afterall it's what's inside that matters most

And I'd rather risk my fate than lose my faith in the loving the hating that constant debating the chaos the calm raise the alarm.

We live and we die, we ... deny, the chaos the calm, raise the alarm

Whoa whoa whoa Raise the alarm

And I'd rather risk my fate than lose my faith

EG awards version of Raise the Alarm

(whoas, thanks to Shannon for that part ;))

I may not believe in God, (that) doesn't mean I'm a lesser person
I still have a heart, and I know what it feels like to be broken
I may not believe in Jesus, but I believe in sacrifice
Life doesn't always bear a reason (?), and no-one ever gets the chance to live it twice

And I'd rather risk my faith, than lose my faith
The loving, the hating, the constant debating
The chaos, the calm, RAISE THE ALARM!!
The living, the dying, the constant denying
The chaos, the calm, raise the alarm

(whoas)

I may not believe regrets, but i believe in salvation
Some things i'd rather forget, we choose what we see and we see what we choose to believe
In the name of the father, the son and the holy ghost, I'm not concerned with religion, after all it's what's inside that matters most

How Do We Know

(Give it away now, give it away now :p)

We’ve been waiting on the frontline
Been preparing our entire lives for this day to arrive
No doubt this will be part of our history
We’re makin our move and breaking out all the grime/grind?

Today the new ways will rise up, state our case, throw it down
After the raid the only ones who still remain, standing proud
Seperated from the crowd

How do we know, how do we know - Turn on the light
How do we know, how do we know - I need to decide
How do we know, how do we know - Because we may not survive tonight

How do we know, how do we know - I’ll take my chance
How do we know, how do we know - (On a little) romance
How do we know, how do we know - We’ll give it all that we can

Today will be the last day
Tomorrow everything will change

An introduction going down the line
But as far as I can tell it’s just the blind leading the blind
(Hesitation?) written in the eye
…it’s just the blind leading the blind

Today the new ways will rise up, state our case, throw it down
After the raid the only ones who still remain, standing proud
Seperated from the crowd

How do we know, how do we know - Turn on the light
How do we know, how do we know - I need to decide
How do we know, how do we know - Because we may not survive tonight

How do we know, how do we know - I’ll take my chance
How do we know, how do we know - (On a little) romance
How do we know, how do we know - We’ll give it all that we can

Today will be the last day
Tomorrow everything will change

How do we know, how do we know - Turn on the light
How do we know, how do we know - I need to decide
How do we know, how do we know - Because we may not survive tonight

How do we know, how do we know - I’ll take my chance

ok, now this thread is just plain cruel. it's like waving a bag of freshly baked cookies in front of a fat kid... no wait it's worse than that-
it's waving a freshly baked TRAY of cookies in front of a fat kid with no arms, and then giving him all the ingredients and instructions to make said cookies himself.

yes ladies, in this metaphor, I am that fat kid. You are the fellow wavers, and your dirty, all knowing, all hearing ways are the cookies. you are cruel cruel people.

I forget where the link is (someone help me out here) but there was a link to both Raise the Alarm and How Do We Know recorded at the EG Awards somewhere on the forum.
And they've been there for months now.

Those two are (relatively) easy to figure out cos the recording is at least somewhat decent.

The other songs are quite frankly painful with the versions I have and all the static that goes with them, but I'm sure others have better versions somewhere and I'm hoping they can help decipher the lyrics.

Just trust me when I say that the wait for these songs once the boys have finished with them will MORE than be worth it! :)

page 7 of The New Songs poll....down the bottom of the page rakfint has some links, don't know if they are current. There is more links further on in that thread. How do we know and raise the alarm were posted

That is because it was playted at an event that was being recorded..
TLE obviously thought it would be an idea to play 2 new songs, see how the crowd reacted to them, give us abit of a taste as to what is to become of the new record...
That's all

It's respect to the band, and even the work of others for any video or audio is kept for self use instead of posting it up on the net.

If every song was recorded and posted up there would be no need for the new Album.
:)

kind of dilemma here.
at first,I'm so excited that there's a possible chance to hear something new(even in bAD quality)...
on the other hand, that's wrong...it's like with last QotSA album.it was released in the net 2 weeks before it came out in stores..quality wasn't that good, and after buying original CD it was a BIG disappointing - all the new songs sounds like old ones...

I wouldn't say anti-religious, I would say more pro-atheism. I think it's really saying that although someone may not believe in all that jazz, they can still be a good person and we're all human in the end.
Anyway that's what I think and I dig the lyrics as I'd identify as an atheist.

good point... because it never really says anything about religion being wrong or anything like that does it? does almost hint on it in the pre-chorus/chorus but maybe not quite...

woah woooahetc.

And I know what it feels like to be broken

I may not believe in Jesus, but I believe in sacrifice
Life doesnt always state a reason, and no-one ever gets the chance to live it twice

And I'd rather risk my faith than lose my fate in the loving the hating the constant debating the chaos the calm raise the alarm.

Marching on the street.
We won't forget and we'll have no regrets,
Marching on the street.

We won't surrender, we'll always remember,
Marching on the street.

How Do We Know

(Give it away now, give it away now )

Waiting For The Silence (To End)

Secrets can be hurtful(?) if you're not careful
See you on the right track (really not sure about that one)
....

I shoulda known better ...shoulda ... agreed
But now hearts dont come with guaruntees
I hate to break it to ya but I'm obviously
....

....now
I didnt mean to react now
....
....

I cant live without detention/the attention (?)
I feel (life's/I've) got no direction

I'm waiting for the silence to end now
Waiting for the smoke to clear
Waiting for someone to surrender
Dont you remember how it was last year?

We're (all the) boys
We're making the noise
And we wont try to pretend
We had it all back then
Now I'm waiting for the silence to end

Secrets can be hurtful
And the truth can sometimes kill it seems
Be careful what you wish for
.....
.....

....now
I didnt mean to react now
....
....

I can't live without detention/the attention(?)
I feel I've got no direction

I'm waiting for the silence to end now
Waiting for the smoke to clear
Waiting for someone to surrender
Dont you remember how it was last year?

We're (all the) boys
We're making the noise
And we wont try to pretend
We had it all back then
Now I'm waiting for the silence to end

I can't live without detention(?)

Live To Love

Moment In The Sun

...
... be any less proud
Gotta get out before I get too old
...

.. things will be better come next year.
But they never ever get any better
And I dont care what you've got in store
Because Im not gonna wait any more.

This is our moment in the sun
This is our time to run
Because there's nothing left for us here
Nothing left for us here

And dont get too concerned
If we never return
Because there's nothing left for us here
Nothing left for us here

....different place(?)
Too much time on our hands to waste
.....
.... wont look back
....

...
.. things will be better come next year.
But they never ever get any better
And I dont care what you've got in store
Because Im not gonna wait any more.

This is our moment in the sun
This is our time to run
Because there's nothing left for us here
Nothing left for us here anymore

And dont get too concerned
If we never return
Because there's nothing left for us here
Nothing left for us here

This is the right place
And this is the right time
For our moment in the sun
Moment in the sun

Nothing left for us here

Nothing left for us here

We were born here (we were born here)
We will die here (we will die here)
Because there's nothing left for us here
Nothing left for us here

Cos Im not gonna wait around here anymo-or-ore

November

I (?)turned around(?) I heard fifty million voices.
And I had a dream, I saw fifty million faces.
....fifty million....
...
As long as you get your message right(?)

I still remember, that day in November,
Marching on the street.
We won't forget and we (?)won't know(?) regrets,
Marching on the street.

I had a dream, I saw fifty million places
....wasted.
...

I still remember, that day in November,
Marching on the street.
We won't forget and (?)we won't know/there were no(?) regrets,
Marching on the street.

We won't surrender, we'll always remember,
Marching on the street.

Marching. Marching. Marching.
I still remember that day in November...

Rats
And the river's rising.
The city's burning to the ground.
And the river's rising.
The city's burning to the ground.

The rats are gonna take your life away

And the river's rising.
The city's burning to the ground.
And the river's rising.

How does that equate to "people who believe in God think they're superior than those who don't" ?

Sometimes Graham, you really dont make sense.

To me, the whole "doesnt mean Im a lesser person" is probably more a response to certain peoples attitudes to non-believers, but it's far from accusing all christians/believers of being overly high and mighty.

So I'm thinking this is about the plague/Black Death - if someone was dead or diseased in a house, they painted a red cross on it ... and that rats spread the disease and they used fire to burn the corpses to stop the disease spreading.

"Any family that had one member infected by the plague was locked in their home for forty days and nights. A red cross was painted on the door to warn others of the plight of those in the house."

This occurred to me first time i heard it. Am wondering why Chris has chosen to sing about it and what he is actually getting at.

Why is he singing about it: A thought

Because of the paranoid, dangerous, increasingly fuhrer-esque police state activities going on all over the world right now (wiretapping, illegitimate incarcerations, fear of free speech) as a result of the so-called "war on terror" (and a variety of other things), it has almost been what you could call a trend for artists to write tunes that reference previous historical bouts of finger-pointing and paranoiac hysteria to illustrate the despair of it all...as they say, if you don't know your history, you are doomed to repeat it. Common allegories (is that the right word?) for our current situation are things like the witch trials, the red scare, nazi germany, and, perhaps in this case, the bubonic plague. The marking and exclusion of the disease's victims seems like it may coincide with calling someone a non-patriot, an enemy of the state, a terrorist, etc.

Eh????

charlie uncle naughty tuesday....noice~

maybe they could produce it themselves?

I actually thought that's what they were going to do... I'm sure I read that somewhere round here.
But then i remembered Chris saying that he thinks its a good idea to have someone from the outside who can stand back and tell them what's what.
I'd love launay to do it again... but as Chris said its some big international producer I don't think that's how he would phrase it if they were using him again.
Chris Cornell?
Rob Cavallo?
fuck I hope it's launay again. I really don't want it to be overproduced. He's just finished with Supergrass so I guess it could be him.

MetalWorks is a state of the art studio. A lot of huge artists have recorded there. It's won top studio in Canada 10 years in a row. If they we're to record in North America, MW would be worth considering. Apparently Silverchair mixed their last album there.

MetalWorks has had many great artists record/work there. Don't they offer courses for people who want to work in studios? I can't remember, but someone told me about it because I want to go to school for recording. It also won Recording Studio Of The Year about 10 times.

Yeah, the MetalWorks Institute is for people who want to learn how to be engineers and such (Crazy Expensive though I think its like $20000+ a year and very limited enrollment). I considered it, but I ended up going to Uni instead. My high school had some makeshift studios where I learned how to do basic recording using software and mixers and all that jazz. I recorded a few songs, but most of that stuff I can still do at home. I also took a week long recording course at Queen's University while I was in high school as part of an enrichment program. It was pretty cool, but most of that stuff can be learned on your own. If you're serious about recording as a career though, MW Institute would certainly put you ahead of say, community college students.

All that aside, it would be awesome if TLE did choose MW to record the new album. Maybe Silverchair mentioned it to them while they were here for G'Day Toronto.

Yeah, I better get a job and start studying more to up my marks if I want to try and get into it. I was thinking the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe or trying MetalWorks Institute. The thing that sucks though, is that I had a Communications Technology class this year, and I took it specifically for audio editing and similar stuff, only to find out the teacher DOESN'T have the right equipment. So I didn't last long in it. Kinda hard to build a portfolio when the teacher doesn't have the right stuff. When my mom decides to buy that Mac she wants, I'll play around with Garage Band and those programs. I'm also thinking of a co-op at a local recording studio, but I'm not sure if they do that [yet], because it's fairly new and the guy who owns it is quite young.

Would be cool if they did some recordage on Canadian soils, a lot of bands that do record here really like it.

Haha, I won the communications technology award when I was in high school. Fun class, I just listened to music and screwed around on a computer for an hour and fifteen minutes everyday.

I think Trebas has recording programs and stuff as well. I seriously considered doing it for a living, but I decided being a Brewmaster would be a better idea.

I really want to know the words to New Frontier. I've just salvaged about 25 secs worth of listenable audio from one of my videos from san remo :)

I think I have worked out the best way to record live music/loud noises on my camera! :p I need to hold the camera so that I have my finger over the microphone part of the camera. That's the only explanation I can think of as to the few bits of good sounding audio. If you get what I mean! :p

May
02-25-2008, 07:51 PM
I know what you mean!

I think I'm gonna hold the phone under my top next gig, cos it seems that when my hand was over the mic, the recordings were less static *cross fingers*

So Nic, of those 25 secs, what have you managed to make out in New Frontier???

Colezy
02-25-2008, 07:57 PM
Absolutely nothing! :p

I'm just happy cos it's the only part of the video that you can actually hear the guitar and chris properly...it's just not clear enough to hear the words and it goes static-y again *right* before the chorus :(
