Yeah yeah, i know everyone's probably sick to death of this topic being bandied around, and nothing'll probably ever come of it, but i felt compelled to restart it.
now i'm no authority on this thing, and i could be wrong, but i think there is a good handful of forumers who are definitely dedicated, commited and trustworthy enough that perhaps we could possibly consider bringing back an official street team.
Discuss away people :D

There were some valid reasons why the old one got canned, and besides that, Trav did have the Unofficial Street Team set up.
It's more or less the money factor, and time - there needs to be someone permanently there to lead the Street Team. Probably more reason but hey, that's enough for now.

I do as much as I can to plug the boys - posters around the local spots, school and stuff.
I'd love to be part of a Street Team.
Well if they don't wanna start another official one, there's nothing to stop us starting an unofficial street team is there?
But yeah, I'd definately join, whether it was official or not!
It cost poor TLE big dollars to run the street team. It came directly outta the boys wallets and a couple of people went and fucked it up for all the honest peoples.
w3rd of mouth is always good, and always requesting the singles on the radio helps big time too. and not just once or twice, ring up as many times possible, emailing the request lines etc.

That is very true. But hey, a little extra help never hurt anyone.
Well maybe we should think about organising our own unofficial team?
The unofficial street team was being run by Trav, but not much has happened since the board crash 2 moons ago.
Woody did create some fliers for us to print out and hand around for the big SOE tour in May.
AlinaPOW

Yeah i heard all about that in the old street team thread, i reckon that's absolutely horrendous.

Yeah the official one will never be back. It was just too expensive. There's nothing to stop people from doing it themselves...that's what we've always said. Trav's street team was meant to give people a forum with which to gain ideas and materials...but it's up and down like a yoyo.

Some of you might remember that Sarah and I did some street teaming earlier this year, right after the current tour was announced. Man that seems like ages ago! I know that sarah has done some before..a few years back though.
It's probably the only 2 times that Hobart and Launnie has been TLE-street-teamed!
And if they come back again, I'm sure we will plaster the place with posters all over again!

Sarah: 'Well, the last competition for the street team that they...um, you guys, um, yeah, had...and *cracks up laughing* *takes deep breath*...and, um, the person who did the best job won the jacket...

It would be cool if they sold Street Team packs on the site or something. Chuck a bunch of posters and flyers in and a shirt. SkyLilu4u live (http://camslivesexy.com/cam/SkyLilu4u)
oooh - i want a forumers shirt AND i want a street team shirt...
Ace Jase's idea isn't a bad one - depends on how well the t-shirt transfer paper works and what type of printer everyone has...
umm...
maybe someone doing fine arts at uni or something (maybe just someone who has access to that sort of equipment) could do up a silk screen and they could be printed that way - but that would limit the numbers of colours that could be printed...
anyway /$0.02

thats a really good idea! if we have a transfer print. like i think you iron it on but we could have a black and white one so you could but your own teeshirt and put it on that
and that way everyone would have a t-shirt that was guaranteed to fit them too!
and it could be pretty much any colour... (the shirt and the print - if you know hot to use photoshop or whatever properly...)
*M!
I say that the design is something simple. I'm planning on doing mine with a sharpie and if I have time, going down to Spotlight and getting myself some paint. Is anyone going to design this baby? I won't because I don't have Photoshop, that and my creative skills are terrible.
i'd volunteer my services but i'm scared i'd be shouted down for dumb designisms!
:p
what should go on it?

I'm terrible at designing but if you guys like I can take a picture of the DVD cover into my local shop that prints stuff onto t-shirts and see how much it'd be to get a couple made up?
Lemme know what sizes and stuff if anyone's interested and I'll let you guys know how much they'll be. Normally cheaper the more we get!
ok - i am officially volunteering at least one idea for the shirt
we could get a couple of the talented people on the board to do some and then vote on them here perhaps...
Lauren's idea of taking them somewhere to get printed isn't entirely bad as they'd at least be "uniform" but i suppose it's dependent on how much we're all willing to pay...
does anyone have any font preferences?
*M!
I'd much rather make my own shirt. I don't have much money to spend so I was just going to pick up a cheap, plain tshirt and use what I have at home.
For the font, the one used on State of Emergency is Wide something Latin.
yeah, besides, i couldn't have payed for a shirt. no one knows me or where i live
i think my local harvey norman prints photos on to t-shirts for like $25 or something...
maybe everyone should check at their local HN to see if they also do them and then everyone could just take the same file down to their locals and say - hey - print this!
the shirts aren't anything spectacular though from what i remember...

you can buy transfer paper anywhere can't you?
I'm not entirely sure how to do it but it's supposedly not too hard to make a t-shirt, like with a stencil and then fabric paintish stuff. So if someone makes the stencil design on the computer, then everyone can print and cut it out themselves and make it into a t-shirt?
I dunno how well that transfer papery type stuff works, doesn't it come off quite easily if it's not done professionally?

Although i'm not very happy with the back, i actually wanted to put Unofficial Street Team but i didn't know how good that'd look.
All that is easily done with a sharpie. Just print out the logo, put it under the tshirt and trace away!
its a good start, i should try my hand at one...
Can we make suggestions to other people's designs? Because I think Alina's looks good, simple yet effective, but maybe we could write "Street Team" under the logo on the front.
I tried downloading the Wide Latin font but every website I went to asked for money or linked me to websites that wanted money. I downloaded one but it doesn't work.

You should just do up a design and then anyone who wants the tshirt should go buy a plain one from target and take the tshirt and the design to their local tshirt screen printer and have it done.
it costs about the same for set up at a local screen printer if they print 1 or 100 shirts though Glenn - that's part of the problem
the other part is:
i don't have a local screen printer so *wah*

yeah but the whole point was to have minimum cost!
So after all that fussing about, trying to find a Wide Latin font, then finally getting one from *M!, I never actually used it. I reckon it looks good though. I'm just trying to keep in mind that we'll be drawing these on to shirts so I didn't want to make anything to fancy.

I like that shirt above.
If I can be bothered, I'll try if you like? or is it purely a Melbourne thing? :p
That depends on what you're planning on drawing?

I suppose the shirt could be any colour you want. I know I won't be wearing white. The design was just on white to make it easier for printing and what not.

Whites the easiest. And if were to actually print them, they actually charge a lot more for designs printed on dark tshirts than lighter tshirts. I checked.

I used Ally as an example since she came up with the original idea for it. If other people have better ideas feel free to suggest or make them :)
I also changed the font on the drum to the normal tle font.
the only problem i'd have with a footy jersey is that it's not very gig friendly - too hot and i can't show off my rack enough :p
for the board one, i reckon we should all do a drawing of ourselves like we had to in kindy and then they all get put on the back of a shirt like that (with our screen names underneath)
the front could be a bit more of a challenge...

I've done that before, only on paper and with a proper screen. Instead of drawing the design and putting glue where you don't want the ink to go, you cut a stencil out and put the screen on top and then the ink goes through the screen and stencil and onto your shirt. Kinda hard to explain but I know how to do it easy. :)

I think we're doing the street teaming on sunday, I dunno if we'd be able to have the t-shirts ready by then but it would be cool if we could.
Did anyone else want to submit a t-shirt or should we have a vote now?
And should we make a new thread with a poll or just say in here which one we want?
And it doesn't have to be numbers on the back, we could do little pictures or something... or stick figures of people? I dunno
Also do you think on the back we should mention something about the street team or the website/forum?

But if I do mine and it turns out okay I can do yours.
and thanks :D I feel special that something I designed might turn into a t-shirt that heaps of people have.
With the forum url on the back (the font will be clearer when it's an actual t-shirt size, it looked bad just in a plain font)
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/swizzleh/t-shirtfrontandbackdifferentforumco.jpg
Just a suggestion for the voting. Can we pleeeeease choose a design that doesn't have a giant picture on it. Something easy that can be drawn on in marker will be easy for everyone. Or maybe some people could have professional, screen printed ones and others have a sharpie one because I'm not planning on getting mine made professionally.
In other news, I'm going shopping for a tee tomorrow arvo'.

Bec, that looks ab-fab but could you please show me what'd look like with the forum URL around the back of the neck. As in like curved around the back if you get what I mean.
I'd like to see both then I can decide what I wanna vote on.
Having the URL curved around the neck would make the name and number bit look less "busy" and clutered :)
EDIT: I haven't even asked mum if I can get a plain tee yet. After everything she's bought me lately I think she'd chuck a spazz. I might just get one quietly tomorrow when I call in to work!
I know in art at my school we were gonna make t-shirts, but then our teacher didn't like us so he wouldn't let us, buuuuuut that means our school has the equipment needed to make them, so when we go back I can talk to one of the art teachers about it and see if I can make a few for people at lunch time.
I don't think it would cost anything other than the price of the t-shirt itself.
i think i'll just grab an old shirt and use a sharpie, or i'll make something for meeee :D
Like this Lauren?
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/swizzleh/t-shirtfrontandbackcurvedurlcopy.jpg
Would sharpie stay on in the wash or fade?
Sharpies are pretty good, but of course they fade after a while. I'm not sure about Scotchguard and if you can use it on clothes, but I'm sure there would be a product for keeping it on during the wash. I've been reading a diy forum the last couple of days and I read something about sharpies staying on for at least a couple of months, even in the wash.

Nah, I dunno it just seems weird. I know you took the photo, but it's more the fact that andy is in the photo and unaware that you're gonna spread this photo around, but then I guess it's no different to spreading it on the internet so I think I'll shut up now.
With the t-shirts, if anyone was going for the sharpies just because they don't know how to make a t-shirt/too expensive or whatever, I can try and do some myself for people (I'd just need you to supply the t-shirts) because I think I can use the equipment at my school, and probably steal some of their paint too. I don't really wanna stretch the picture any more because it will print out all pixelated.. not a good look!!
I saved Mel's flyer and made some changes. The font for the words down the bottom is only temporary because I don't have the "arrow" font on my computer.

Ah ok, well it was just an idea to try and space it out! You have photoshop right?
There is a tool there that can stretch pictures out without them getting pixelated.
Hang on I'll ask my brother what the control for it is.
Hold down the shift key, grab the corner of the image with your mouse and drag the image to the size you want.
It should make image larger without wrecking the perspective. From the moment that you click off the image- Photoshop will automatically adjust the image resolution to make it not pixelated. Give it a go as I think the flyer needs to be bigger :)
My brother wrote most of that for you as I wouldn't have a clue! I don't have photoshop on here, but he uses it alot on the other computer so knows what he's talking about if you wish to try that! :)
That makes the perspective stay the same, but it will still pixelate the image a bit if it's larger than the actual image size. Plus that'd use a heap of ink to print out, so it would probably look better if we could afford good quality paper and such. I personally reckon it looks good with the white around the edges, makes the writing stand out more.

Whee I'm buying some sticky tape tomorrow. The thick stuff that is.
How much will we need?
Also are you sure that Rae is OK with us plastering the city or wherever it is that we go!?
EDIT, Mel I mean like make the whole thing the DVD cover then put the words over that. Does that make sense?
Its cool, i already emailed her.

Cheers Alina. I have good quality photo paper here but I'm not allowed to use alot of it.
Actually scrap that, my bro says it pretty shit quality but still better than normal paper.
I can use it if you'd like though and I have to replace it after. When we've decided on a final design just e-mail me the design and I'll print it out on the main computer, it may take a while though!! Damn thingm is sooo slow.

eh? (http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/4391/flyinggn9.gif)
I'm assembling this in Microsoft Word so the letters are nice and crisp when they're printed and not pixely... the grey is the bckground. The white is an A4 page on it's side.

Alina, where are we all meeting up?
While I'm here Alina have you checked your Myspace yet? I can send you a bigger version of the photo of us with Rae if you'd like.
Ahh, nice, I like it. Wouldn't it be cheaper to print these out on normal paper? Especially seeing that we're printing out lots of copies.

yes it would be cheaper but no one is going to use this paper.
Mel, can we go put a couple of posters under Strachan lane?! haha
If we're gonna go back to Strachan lane again can't we just steal the sign?

Yes, I've been thinking about this for ages actually. If we ever go back we're gonna take it down. With more of us there we should be able to do it easily. How would we give it to him though? (the sign Mel, the sign. Don't get too excited, honestly!)
