View Full Version : TV Nostalgia
ok - so i stumbled across a site that has all these great kiddies Cartoons that i used to watch when i was young(er)
who was around/remembers any of the following (and then discuss/add your own old favourites - they don't have to be cartoons either...)
AVENGER PENGUINS ('cause i know Mel loves them)
CHARLIE CHALK
COUNT DUCKULA
DANGERMOUSE (he's made a bit of a comeback recently from what i remember)
NELLIE THE ELEPHANT
OSCAR'S ORCHESTRA (not one of my faves but i remember it so i had to add it!)
RAGGY DOLLS
THE RATTIES
ROCKY AND THE DODOS
SUPERTED
TOUCAN 'TECS
THE TRAPDOOR
VICTOR AND HUGO, BUNGLERS IN CRIME
these are all old English shows...
i also loved T-BAG
(there were lots of different series of this show)
ART ATTACK (possibly my favourite show ever!)
and an Aussie show that i love(d)
JOHNSON AND FRIENDS
ahhh... (foggy) memories
come stroll with me down nostalgia lane...

JOHNSON AND FRIENDS
Ahhh!! Loved that show.
My friends uncle was one of the voices once I think..
Woah
I used to love Art Attack! I remember begging mum to buy me the materials so I could make everything on there. Ah, memories... :)
haha - both of you are probably too young to remember most of the shows i posted!
i think they all used to be on the ABC when i was 10 - 14 or so... (maybe!)
but it's cool to know that some of them have seeped through the generations!
i wish some of them were still on now - better than some of the crap that they show on TV these days (haha i sounded scarily like my parents then... :O )

Rocko's Modern Life and Gumby were pretty trippy, but I watched Gumby most of the time anyway. Here's an episode of The Trap Door: ( YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCVQNxEcrao) )

I very rarely watched Plasmo, and whenever I did, it was the same episode! The one where the asteroid that punched a hole through some planet came back, and slotted right into the gap, making the planet whole again.
oh god, talk about flashback! these are so cool!

I was too young to understand what Tin Tin was on about... I knew he had a dog named Snowy that was about it. Budgie the helicopter wasn't on my hitlist but I remember was it Bar bar? That Elephant that was the king. Roger Ramjet, Where's Wally, The Original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.
Oh and afternoon television, like Beast Wars and, there was an actual channel 9 show dedicated to Warner Bros stuff and remember cackin' myself to Freakazoid.

Trapdoor and Rockos Modern Life were great. Oh and Pingu.
George and Martha still gets shown every now and again.

where's wally was cool, me and my brother would be inches from the tv trying to find wally...it was the only time we worked together
Duckula was the bestest.

Teddy Ruxbin (?) was the best. I had a toy Teddy (that you put the cassettes in and he would talk and sing), but I also had (until my arsehole father kept it for his new family) a talking Grubby that would join up with Teddy and they'd tell the stories together.
That show used to be on Cartoon Company, a Tassie show on Tas Tv early Saturday mornings. I got to be on that show when i was in grade 3 which was pretty awsome!! They also played Zelda, Police Acadamy and others...
Some other shows i really loved were T-bag, Astro Boy, Mysterious Cities of Gold (got them on dvd now :) ), all the short brittish cartoons, Bananaman, etc. I had the biggest crush on MacGyver when i was a kid, loved the A-Team, um...Transformers and Voltron. Ohhh, and Fraggle Rock. Fraggle Rock was the best. Inspector Gadget was cool too (i wanted penni's book and watch so much). Oooh and Alf - I watched the episode where he fell out of the window nearly a thousand times i'm sure. I remember all these shows the most cos i was a spoiled kid who got all sorts of toys and shit from my favourite tv shows.
hang on, i've thought of some more:
Punky Brewster
The Smoggies (although at that point i was probably too old to be watching shows like that!)
The really cool show with the baldrick from black adder in the garden and something about frogs...haha, know what i'm talking about?? :P
Jodez

OMG i remember bump in the night! and count duckula
TEENAGE MUTUANT NINJA TURTLES were my favourites!! GO mikey!
I liked Gumbi, art attack, Johnson and friends, agro,
the trapdoor, T-bag as well, Plant earth (is that what it was called? it had like earth moon fire etc ppl had ring sand those powers)
and ill think of some more...

Carla keeps banging on about Wambles but i can't remember them.
Wombles Glenn darling... Good to see Carla has some taste.
"Underground, overground wombling free. The wombles of wimbleton common are we. Making good use of the things that we find. Things that the everyday folk leave behind..."
oooh - thanks for posting the Lyrics May :D
i was in the shower today and was thinking of some Ads that i used to love when i was little...
pity there was no computer in there with me 'cause i had a stack of them that i was going to share with you but now all i can think of is a local add for a Car Dealer...
the main catch cry was: "Ian Parker cares, who cares, Ian Parker Cares" (it was sung so it was MUCH more appealing)
it sprung a regionalism all of its own so now whenever anyone says "who cares" you know that the answer is going to be Ian Parker :p
little kiddies used to go around saying it without even knowing WHY (it was off the air for a while but the 'joke' remained...)
anyway...
feel free to post ads too - i dig ads! :)
oooh - and i forgot the Coca Cola add:
"...whenever there's a beat there's always a drum... whenever there's fun there's always Coca Cola..."
can't remember how it started off the top of my head but it's something that i still sing along to (i downloaded the MP3... hehe!)

Oh, and, how about all the Christian Television Ads? I think a few are endemic to Tassie.
There was that one with the girl with the mouse in her pocket, I read somewhere she actually topped herself a few years ago. Then there's was the 'we must remember how to pray' riverbend church ad.
And then there's the one with the lion who didn't pay his taxes, and then tried to eat a monkey, but I imagine that'd be national?

Lowee, you remember Zardip! YAY! :D (i think it was Zardip's Search for Healthy Wellness or something like that!) i have distinct recollections of him going to the doctors and they tested his reflexes and he didn't move at all and i was thinking - oh no! he's going to get busted... and then the doctor commented about it and then tried again and then Zardip almost fell off the bed and i thought he was going to get busted again... haha! funny!

i used to watch Hey Arnold when i was in year 11 and 12...

weirdly enough the guy that i had a crush on back then is now the sports reporter for our local news on TV (hooray for Prime TV!)

yes, i remember that show quite well. it was about a girl who got radioactive goo spilt over her, and as a result she had all these super powers like she could morph into this metalic water stuff (mercury prob), and she could move things with her eyes, and she had like an electric power in her fingers, so she could turn on electronics and stuff...
"my best friend ray thinks its cool, my sister annie thinks im her science project"
thats all i remember from the theme.
oooh - another person who remembers Alex Mac!
geez i loved that show - she always wore hats too - i thought that was tres cool! :)
but i thought the substance she turned into was supposed to be water - not Mercury... *shrugs* i don't know - it's been a while since i've thought about it in any detail...
i do however have fond recollections of her eating curry one episode and then being able to lift heavy machinary - hehe that was gold!
now on to other shows: i was thinking the other day - anyone remember:
"Bonkers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonkers_%28TV_series%29)"

"Marsupilami (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsupilami)" (don't know if that's how you spell it actually...)

"Bob in a Bottle" can't find a link for this one - and i only remember he was a genie and part of the theme song wend: "you sneeze i please that's the way it goes..."
?????????????????????????????????????????????????
man - i love old TV!
they weren't old favourites but they used to entertain me all the same!

i also still indulge in listening to the goodies theme
and i have recently(ish) purchased the first 3 series of The Golden Girls - which everyone must go and watch right now - one of my all time favourite shows ever!

Yeah i remember that show.
My fav show as a little kid was Lambchops, i'd always watch it with my grandma after school. I bought her a talking lambchop plush doll for xmas last yr. She was suprised i remembered the show.
haha Lamb Chop's play along...
that was hilarious...
i still sing the theme song occasionally
best thing about it was:
"this is the song that doesn't end, yes it goes on and on my friend, some people started singing it not knowing what it was, and they'll continue singing it forever just because..."
haha i want that printed around the bottom of a t-shirt or mug or something!

Charlie horse would always sing that at the end.
Lambchops play along come join the fun with me!
The doll i got my grandma says stuff like "I'm soooo tired" "Will you be my friend?"
haha - sounds like a cool Doll...
did you ever see the episode og the Nanny when Lambchops was on it?
strange!

There's this tv show I really used to like when I was younger, but I could NOT remember the name of it for the life of me. But today I saw a tshirt of it!!
It was ROGER RAMJET.
(this show has probably been mentioned in this thread before, so I apologise)

I remember that, I used to love it! Catchy theme tune from memory, was it Yankee Doodle?
haha - i don't know if roger ramjet had a mention previously! thanks for bringing it back to my attention :)
i have the theme song on CD somewhere - i should dig it out - it's fun - and yes, it was Yankee Doodle - but reworded:
anyone ever watch Rocky and Bullwinkle? it was a little bit before me but i think i caught some reruns once - it was cool!
i think we should all write to the ABC (or some other non Pay TV station) to put on all the old cartoons/TV shows again so that the kiddies of this generation can have a bit of insight into what was really cool :p ;)

i also think that most of the shows we've been talking about so far would be pretty cheap for them to get the rights to because half of them don't seem to be anywhere anymore...
they'd have a bit of a cult following amongst the 20somethings too - and i'm sure we'd all introduce them to the next generation for them to also love...

There was supposed to be another movie where he goes to find his parents, but Nickelodeon wanted Craig Bartlett (creator) to sign a contract saying he would only work with nickelodeon and he refused, and has gone to cartoon network, so no more arnold ever :(
The grandparents voices on arnold are by Homer and Marge simpson, cause the creator is married to Matt Groenings sister!

The ABC does retain the rights to screen some of these programs,
although many of the programs you have mentioned the ABC does not retain

The ABC have this thing where you can order old TV shows on DVD and they'll send make a copy from their vault and send it out to you. It's bloody useless though, because they own very few of the shows they air, thus they can't send out DVD's. I was after a couple of the Studio 22 shows, namely Skulker, Reverend Horton Heat, and Idea Of North and i sent my application for the dvd's only to be told "sorry, we didn't make that program, thus we don't have the rights to sell you a dvd". It's BULLshit.
ahhh - yeah i hate when that happens!
i wonder if all the stations are the same - i want to get my hands on that series channel 10 did a couple of years back: "The Cooks"
i fell in love with it and don't know why - everyone else seemed to be rather negative about it...
anyway...
i was in the shower the other day and remembered an old retra vision ad (i think it was them)

I Dream of Jeanie is good but I was never a huge Get Smart fan. Are 7 still repating Faulty Towers?
they were a couple of weeks ago
no idea now
the only reason i even knew is because i couldn't watch them 'cause i was rehearsing for a play
and i can't believe you didn't get into get smart...
oh the technology
shoe phone
lipstick phone
people hiding in lockers
the cone of silence that you could actually hear what they were saying in
99
:D
