Just wondering what peoples thoughts on these were.
I'm faced with a little bit of a problem at the moment, when my band is doing a regular gig (ie. loud) my set up is fine, just when we have a more chilled situation, I've been really struggling for a good tone, to my ears anyway.
Thus, im considering a modeler (im a valve man.....:(...). I've tried a POD through some headphones, though never in a band situation. I've been thinking of using one as a DI type thing and straight to the PA for quieter gigs....
Any thoughts or experiences?
Cheers

this will sound funny coming from me, but i dont mind pods.
Personally for smaller gigs I would invest in a small amp rahter than a POD, however I have done duo work with a guy who uses a POD and its very very volume friendly and dosnt sound 'bad' and is alot lighter than an amp.
I cant really give you an answer... Pods are great little toys for getting through a small gig but personally I'd always choose to get a small amp instead :)

Cheers mate, yeah I'd rather have a smaller amp too, but yeah.....money, more to lug too i guess. I just bought a hotplate attenuator too, that sounds pretty awesome with my head (to my ears anyway), but yeah I still want to investigate the pods a bit more.
Didnt care about how loud I was until we actually started getting work......ahh.....thems were the days.....

if you are a valve man, you know what the best thing you can do is? get yourself a vox tonelab se. It has a tube circuit in it so it is as close to a tube sound as you are going to get out of a stomp box. It has some really decent effects on there as well. it's simple to use and you can hook it up to your computer just like a pod.
Do yourself a favour and don't get a pod- as much as reveiwers rave about them their sound is really stale and compressed compared with this bad boy. It's a touch more expensive but definately worth the money.
I have one and I haven't looked back since. Brilliant piece of kit.

yeah thanks mate. I remember reading about those in a guitar mag. THey said that especially at high volumes they had a lot more presence than other modellers etc.
I'll go check one out i think, theres always ebay if the reatails too expensive anyway hehe.
Cheers for the heads up ;)

you're welcome mate, just jamming on mine at the moment, tis a beast. the distortions are surprisingly warm for something like this. Effects are as flexible as any others. let me know if you do decide to get one and i'll hook you up with some useful things i found.

if money wasn't an problem or if ebay had one, get yourself a tc electronic g system- the best effects modelling system in the world. ever. ever. ever. it will blow you away. even if you don't intend on buying one. Just try one for the sake of it. You will be astounded by it.
Seriously though. Stay away from the pod. really.

The G-system is only an effects processor though, it won't give you amp models like a pod will...

no point in having amp modelling if you have a nice amp. The amp models on the pod are horrible. Really fake, plastic, cold, compressed, generic sounding shyte.
if its amp modelling you want I would still stick with the vox.

You're splitting hairs... if you really want amp modelling there is only one real solution, and it does it the old fashion way.

But to achieve perfection you have to split the hairs of things that actually have the potential to achieve perfection ;)
is that your beast?
It isn't mine in the picture, I borrowed that from someones site... But I have one.
