Look again my friend.
Anyway my favourite metal groups include:
Iron Maiden (NWOBHM)
Judas Priest (NWOBHM)
Iced Earth (Thrash/Power Metal)
Trivium (Metalcore pre-Crusade and now Thrash)
I quite like Rage Against The Machine, Soulfly and System Of A Down.
Anything else I dont.

lol Im sure if you like those you could find a few other Alternative Metal bands that you like
I've listened to a shite load of music in my 24 years, and there isnt much I like in the world of Heavy Metal style music

Good jesus, is Grumma back? I vote for every choice because i love every single type of metal. But if i had to narrow my favourite metal bands down, it'd be Iron Maiden, Pantera, Old School-Metallica and Slayer.

genres and subgenres are not important to me.
Genres annoy me, bands can fit into several at once, so putting them in one initially is pointless. I voted for 7 of those categories..I like my music.
Just mentioning a couple names, anyone know of or like the following:
Kalmah, Before the Dawn, Into Eternity, Moonsorrow, Turisas ?
Those last 2 fit into omganothergenre. Viking or folk metal. YOU SUCK FOR MISSING THAT ONE OUT.

I voted for the new wave of British Heavy Metal (I like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest) and Thrash Metal (I like early 'Tallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Pantera..).
Where would Black Sabbath and Motorhead fit in?.. i'd vote for Original Metal too if it was there!!
Useless Metal fact no. 1:
They say The Kinks' 'You Really Got Me' was the first metal riff.
Actually the first heavy metal bands/artists ever would have been Cream, Led Zepellin and Hendrix.

Metallica were thrash until probably Black
(although a Metallica fan could probably correct me on that if Im wrong)
Marv From NZ
10-03-2006, 04:03 PM
Yeah they were pretty thrashy before black i.e Blackened, Battery. But some of their other shit wasn't so thrashy, like Kill Em All, sounds very Misfits'y in some areas. Twas' a good mix until they became all country on us with the Black album.

Well at least Enter Sandman lol . . .

Dont care if you hated their previous albums but the new one is friggin awesome and is fairly different from both ETI and Ascendancy.
Unfortunately they didnt put Broken One on The Crusade because RRunner didnt want them to but its the best song theyve ever released! Curses to them!

Hell yes, I love Trivium! I haven't been able to get the new album yet (TLE sent me broke D: ) but I will ASAP. I've heard Anthem (We Are The Fire) and LOVE it.
I loved how Matt Heafy was saying how there's less screaming on the new album because they really don't even like screaming that much and the only reason he was screaming was because he couldn't sing that well and he wanted to front the band.
I don't think he needed vocal coaching, though. He sounded pretty amazing on Roadrunner United's The End.

Its amazing what Pro-Tools can do :p
Trust me; heard a recording of For Whom The Bell Tolls they did and his vocals, while not bad for the song, were all over the shop lol
But he sounds sweet now
And get The Crusade. Listened to it a few times and it beats the pants off Ascendancy apart from 1 or 2 songs
*oh yeah. and as good as Anthem is, it probably sits behind Ignition, Unrepentent, Becoming the Dragon and Tread the Floods. And then theres Broken One and Vengence which are B-sides for the Anthem single; they kick major arse as well*

Lol, yeah, good point.
I'll definitely be getting The Crusade ASAP. I have 4 albums at the moment that I'm craving, that being one of them, but they have to wait because concert tickets wont.
Everywhere seems to be saying exactly what you did; that Ascendancy doesn't even compare to The Crusade. And I loved Ascendancy, so I can't wait.
I've heard rumours that they're coming here but no dates or anything... has anything official been said as to when they're coming?

Didn't really like their last album, nothing innovative about it, but i'll give the new one a listen. Although from what i've heard, it reminds me bit too much of Metallicas "Master of Puppets" album. If it's a ripoff of one of the greatest if not greatest thrash metal albums of all time, then fuck that shit.

some metal songs are ok,like some of metallica's songs, but full on heavy metal like battery just gives me a head ache.
KillingInTheNameOf
10-16-2006, 11:07 PM
I dont mind Battery but its too uncalculated if ya get my drift . . .
Thats the main reason I prefer the new Trivium style over Metallica
Trivium's solo's flow with the song unlike Metallica's where the song practically stops, then you have wanky shredding for a few minutes, then back to the song
I'm not so keen on Trivium. I haven't quite picked out the reason, but it's mainly because they are (yes this may sound like a bad excuse) trying too hard - they're trying to be the 'next Metallica' but still doing the melodic vocals. Although I probably haven't listened to enough of them to judge, the songs sound quite similar that I've heard.
And Grumma, wanky shredding pwns you.

10-17-2006, 03:07 PM

Disturbed - Conflict
Here You are, enemy
You are my hated enemy
I am enemy
Number one rated enemy
I'm a labelled enemy
I am your mortal enemy
My actions, enemy
Make me your bitter enemy
All around the world around enemy
They're tearing up the ground enemy
They're drawn in by the sound
Enemy, enemy I must eliminate my enemy
Your people, enemy
My people's hated enemy
What are you, enemy
The world created enemy
Eliminate the, enemy
Eradicate the hated enemy
I am an enemy
My very greatest enemy
[x4]
You try to tell me that you love life
Then find another way to kill life

Maybe I'll just get her something else then.
KillingInTheNameOf
12-02-2006, 08:54 PM
Yeah that could be easier :p
I'd recommend some but they wouldnt be overly similar to the bands you mentioned before
Unless she already knows of them, In Flames would be right up her street! They're Swedish and relatively known here amongst metal fans..but you could give that a go, or Sentenced, another Swedish band (slightly heavier).
Ooh, thanks! Any cd in particular that I should get or just whatever I can find?
Evil Chris
12-03-2006, 11:14 AM
There are many you should get, I'm not sure which one. Just what ever you can find.
For contrast, try Colony, and Clayman. They are good. In my opinion.
Come Clarity, Whoracle and Colony I'd recommend for In Flames. There aren't any that I would warn you to steer away from either!
I don't know Sentenced so well, I would recommend 'Down' though - I've got that and it's pretty good!

The vocals aren't too bad but the guitar work is pretty fucking good.
CoB are amazing, I've missed out on seeing them live about 4 times now, it's getting annoying! I've heard from a few friends that they put on a great show though.

Even if you don't like DT's style or songs, they're are most definitely talented - technically at least. I saw them live once, in a pretty big venue, which was all seated. I hadn't managed to get a seat with my mates (they were designated) and ended up sitting next to some nerds. They were so funny, and so shy with zomg a girl next to them lolz. Amazing night - Octavarium (song) was played in full.
Atreyu are awesome, good sing-a-long metal :p They also did a cover of 'You Give Love A Bad Name' - Bon Jovi which I highly recommend!
I need advice! I'm buying a present for my friend in England, I asked what music she was into and she said:
pretty much all metal
cky
marilyn manson
rammstein
slipknot
skindred....
the list is pretty much endless
I have absolutely no clue about metal so based on those bands, could anybody please suggest a good aussie metal band that she'd like and probably wouldn't have heard of/have the cd of?
Evergrey - Recreation Day. She'd love this, almost guarenteed.

Daniel
12-08-2006, 08:46 PM
explain exactly Progressive?
KillingInTheNameOf
12-08-2006, 08:49 PM
"Progressive metal is a genre of heavy metal music which shares traits with progressive rock including use of complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing. The high level of musical proficiency is often combined with a lyrical counterpart in the form of epic textual concepts, resulting in lengthy songs and concept albums. As a result of these factors, progressive metal is rarely heard on mainstream radio and video programs, much due to that the length of the songs are not suited for those medias."

anyway, people in brisbane should go to this new metal club opening 6 january! Its at where the 'underground' is/was on edward street.
copy and paste...
WEDNESDAY NIGHTS
Kento has already agreed to pull his "Altar of Metal" shows out of The Columbian Bar and start putting them on at the new venue, here's what the venue will be offering:
* 3 metal/rock/hard rock bands
* FREE entry
* FREE Pool
* CHEAP jugs of beer
* on the spot drink specials (like maybe for two songs jim beam might only be $3 so everyone rushes to the bar)
THURSDAY NIGHTS
Whilst it may not be this boards taste, we can't deny the hardcore/screamo scene a venue...we want this to be the home of all alternative music in Brisbane.
*3 metalcore/hardcore/screamo bands
* CHEAP entry (if we get good numbers, maybe then free)
* FREE pool
* CHEAP jugs of beer
* on the spot drink specials (like maybe for two songs jim beam might only be $3 so everyone rushes to the bar)
FRIDAY NIGHTS
Have you ever wanted a place to just chill, drink beer with mates and enjoy metal tunes? I know I have, so every second or so Friday night at Club Phoenix will have a metal DJ spinning tunes for your enjoyment, and every other friday will be any show that gets booked there.
* Metal DJ every couple of weeks ($5 entry)
* Live bands every other week (depends on the show, but we want to keep it to $10 most of the time)
* More giveaways
* More drink specials
* Open alllll night (5am license)
SATURDAY NIGHT
Saturday's will just be a huge live show each week, depending on which scene books it will determine what kind of music it is. To be honest, we'd like to see an interstate in their each week...and it's very doable.
So that's the week breakdown.
Some more information:
4mx6.5m Stage
12m main bar, with two other supporting bars...One in the Green Room!!
Girls toilets have 5 working stalls!
Three pool tables and Air Hockey table.
Lots of comfy seating without being away from the music
A camera will be fixed on the stage with the feed going to two huge plasmas within the venue.
2 blocks from train station!!
Buses still in the mall (200m)

I don't know heaps of SOAD, but I'd be willing to bet a fair bit that Anal Cunt can beat them in a fucked up lyrics competition.
For example, here are a few song titles:
- I Became A Counselor So I Could Tell Rape Victims They Asked For It
- I Sent Concentration Camp Footage To Americas Funniest Home Videos
- Your Kid Committed Suicide Because You Suck
- The Only Reason Men Talk To You Is Because They Want To Get Laid, You Stupid Fucking Cunt
- I Made Fun Of You Because Your Kid Just Died
- You're Pregnant, So I Kicked You In The Stomach
- I Got An Office Job For The Sole Purpose Of Sexually Harassing Women
- The Guy Who Shot His Kid Up With A.I.D.S. Is Awesome
- You Were Too Ugly To Rape, So I Just Beat The Shit Out Of You
- You Converted To Judaism So A Guy Would Touch Your Dick
- I'm Glad You Got Breast Cancer, Cunt

Found some decent enough bands on myspazzles lately:
www.myspace.com/battlelore - Spose you could call em death metal in the mould of In Flames but theyve also got Tolkien inspired lyrics!
www.myspace.com/kamelot - power metal like a biatch
www.myspace.com/demonsandwizards1337 - I strongly recommend this Jon Schaffer (Iced Earth) started project. the Fiddler in the Green is exceptionally good. the first half is a folk acoustic which transforms into an epic metal metal finish
www.myspace.com/knightsoftethysmetal - as the name might such theyre power metal
www.myspace.com/allthatremains - hardcore/metalcore much in the mould of Parkway Drive (in terms of where they lie on the scale)
www.myspace.com/iliummetal - another project of Lord Tim's. theyre essentially a toned down, more prog version of Lord/Dungeon and can be compared to the later Iron Maiden albums
www.myspace.com/firewind - hail from Greece and are a essentially a power metal band but are also able to create a more epic vibe
