Oh great. :| I can't get a ticket until Tuesday. I hope the Melbourne BDO isn't selling so fast.

Kev
10-13-2006, 04:53 PM
You'll be fine for the Melbourne BDO I would suspect.

Scalpers played a big part in Sydney selling out so quickly.

Also: If you plan on purchasing tickets through www.bigdayout.com, just be careful. They are using a non secure website, so your CC (not Chris Cheney, Credit Card) details are easily vulnerable.

Rhiannon
10-13-2006, 05:01 PM
Oh good. I can stop panicing now. I'm pretty safe with the credit card thing. I always deal with cash, just prefer it that way, and I don't like dealing with anything money related on the internet. Just don't feel safe.

how many tickets released for sydney overall? i got mine...well my friend did. he accidentally got 2 extra but we'll b able to get rid of them...not over ebay...I HATE SCALPERS!! we'll find sum friends.

Kev
10-13-2006, 09:09 PM
50,000 tickets I believe.

40k went on sale today, with the last 10k to be released bit by bit over 10weeks soonish I think.

extremely secure judging from those specs

Anyways just a quick update:

Gold Coast has now sold out. So there is a ticket ballot for that as well as Sydney.

Final 10,000 Sydney Big Day Out ticket sales information.

With 45,000 tickets for the Sydney Big Day Out snapped up in a few hours we have held back the final 10,000 for sale over the next ten weeks in ballot form.

The first 5,000 will be sold at $125 + bf and the final 5,000 will be at $150 +bf.

Here’s how it will work.

Each week 1000 tickets for the 2007 Sydney BDO will be made available on our website via an online randomly drawn ballot.

The ballot will be drawn at 9pm EST Thursday each week, beginning Thursday 26th October and finishing Thursday 28th December.

The weekly ballot ticket limit is 2 tickets per person.

As the Big Day Out overall has a strict limit of 4 tickets per person, if you have previously bought Big Day Out tickets and if upon entering into the ballot you surpass the 4 ticket limit, no tickets will be allocated to you. This will be strictly adhered to.

Registering for the ballot

Registrations will open at 9am EST Friday 20th October.

You will need to complete and submit the ballot registration page on this website.

Your registration will only need to be completed once and will last for the duration of the balloting weeks.

If you are successful in the ballot

An email will be sent to you within 30 minutes of the ballot draw. This will provide details of how to complete the order, ie, pay for your tickets.

You will be given 5 days to pay for your ticket order (until 9pm EST Tuesday following the ballot). If in this time you have not paid for your order, these tickets will be forfeited and put back into the next week's ballot.

Tickets for other cities are still available so why not consider Auckland or Adelaide BDO instead of paying a scalper for their holiday.

Selling tickets for higher than the face value is a breach of the conditions of sale. Tickets sold on auction sites will be declared invalid and the ticket holder will be refused entry. You have been warned.
Good luck.

GOLD COAST BIG DAY OUT SOLD OUT!!

+ FINAL 5000 TICKETS SALES INFORMATION

Following the trend of sky-rocketing ticket sales in SYDNEY, tickets to the GOLD COAST BIG DAY OUT event to be held SUNDAY JANUARY 21ST JANUARY 2007 at GOLD COAST PARKLANDS have SOLD OUT in record time.

In light of this demand and in an attempt to thwart scalpers, organisors have held back 5000 tickets that will be released via an online ballot.

These 5,000 tickets will be sold at $125 + bf.

Here’s how it will work:

Each week 500 tickets for the 2007 Gold Coast BDO will be made available on our website via an online randomly drawn ballot.

Tickets for MELBOURNE, ADELAIDE and PERTH BIG DAYS OUT are still available so why not consider Auckland or Adelaide BDO instead of paying a scalper for their holiday.

Selling tickets for higher than the face value is a breach of the conditions of sale. Tickets sold on auction sites will be declared invalid and the ticket holder will be refused entry. You have been warned.

Good luck.

Kev
10-26-2006, 04:54 PM
I heard that The Chillis are meant to be coming... but then again... they could just be rumours.

Why would they play BDO?

They have their own tour in April, so why come in Jan when they will be playing headlining shows 3 months later?

The story goes a little like this:

RHCP confirm that they will be headlining 2007 BDO after pulling out of the 2006 event.

Chili Peppers then get an offer from a tour promoter, that provided them with a fatter pay cheque for playing a bunch of shows, that weren't on such a tight schedule like the BDO. Instead of playing for 1 & half hours at BDO, they could go longer if they wanted to at their own shows.

So RHCP told Lees and West to shove it, we got a better deal.

Thats when Lees and West said: Oh well, we'll go with an even bigger & better band. So they got Tool.

ViciousAli
10-26-2006, 05:00 PM
Oh right.

Well i didn't know that.

Yet another band has been announced:

HOTchip

Newsflash! Newsflash! BIG DAY OUT add HOT CHIP to the already very tasty BDO line up!

BIG DAY OUT is big on adventures, and musical adventurers come no more adventurous than HOT CHIP.
“Britain’s HOT CHIP are the fashionistas' latest fave... charming indie and club kids alike with their wry pop. Over and Over is the hooky crossover hit everyone knows. However, HOT CHIP eschew the obvious, favouring quirky indie, neo 80s pop and electronica.” (Herald Sun, June 2006)
Nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for their second and latest album, The Warning, HOT CHIP are Londoners Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke and Felix Martin. After dropping their debut album Coming on Strong in 2004, HOT CHIP took the great leap with The Warning, which NME called “the finest album of electronic rock since Mylo’s Destroy Rock & Roll.”

“They are Prince-adoring, R&B-loving, two-step worshipping electro-funkers with a cheeky attitude… They have pulled off the trick of not taking things too seriously, yet still produce some seriously good music… There’s not many bands out there who can fuse rave-era beats, crowd roars, battling 303 drum patterns and swelling synths to make a coherent electrifying whole.” (NME, May 2006)

HOT CHIP have toured with LCD Soundsystem, Mylo, Stereolab, Goldfrapp, and even Australia’s own Presets. And just like on vinyl, it’s impossible not to love their wry, mad-scientist approach to music.

“HOT CHIP’s stage appeal is predicated on perfect proportions of crooked-toothed grins, somber intensity, and convulsive maraca shaking. With an unspoken, easy rapport, each CHIP’s presence completed the picture of a true ‘band’ beyond the bleeps. Clapping hands, stripping shirts, flailing arms... HOT CHIP brought genuine spirit to its cheeky bedroom electro funk.” (stereogum.com, March 2006)

“These are scientists at the very top of their game,” declares NME, while Musicomh.com has dubbed the HOT CHIP live show “a perfectly legal, risk-free pill which will leave your pupils dilated and a grin on your face.”

Now if that’s not a happy thought as summer rapidly approaches, we don’t know what is. Anyone lucky enough to catch HOT CHIP at BIG DAY OUT 2007 is going to be a shiny, happy person.

This story is from our news.com.au network Source: AAP
eBay sues Big Day Out over anti-scalping
December 06, 2006
INTERNET auction site eBay is reportedly suing the organisers of the Big Day Out concert tour over their new anti-scalping ticket policy.

eBay claims the promoters are breaching trades practices legislation by tightening their ticketing conditions, News Ltd reports.

The changes mean Big Day Out tickets brought from eBay will not be valid if promoters can track down the reseller through ticket numbers, ticketing agencies or credit card details, and void the tickets.

Question! Wait, situation first, then question.

So, a few friends of mine are coming to Melb from Adelaide for MCR, with them is coming another MCR fan (who I don't know) who has as of yesterday decided she wants to go to BDO, too. Can't buy tickets through the ticketmaster site, already tried, looks like it's really sold out now. So she wants to know what the chances are of getting a ticket via another means, be it a scalper, someone who's selling one, even if there's somewhere on the day that they could get one for her. I really don't trust eBay, especially because of aforementioned reasons. I have no idea about scalpers and such, so I'm turning to people who do know.
Help?

Oh, and one more question. Really sorry for veering off topic, but this cropped up in the same convo and I figured people here would have been to Festy Hall and such and I really don't know where else to ask. Anyway, MCR sideshow is at Festy Hall, right. Between us all we have 3 different door numbers on our tickets (6, 7 and 11). Cause none of us have done the all-day line up at that venue before we were wondering if that means we have to line up at the door on our tickets/we can't line up together. Pretty much just wanted any info on the whole line up deal, mainly where to line up, just so we have an idea what we're in for before we actually go. We don't wanna be first there again and wind up being in the wrong spot.

Thanks in advance!

hillaas
12-11-2006, 01:08 AM
Do the tickets ave seat numbers or does it say GA (general admission)?

mel_bound
12-11-2006, 01:09 AM
At festy if you have different door tickets you might have to split up. The first 6 or possibly 7 doors are around the front, you line up on a footpath with a metal fence thing stopping you from falling down onto a highway, and the others are behind the venue next to a seedy looking carpark. The doors should have a big number on them so you can see exactly which one to go in, at TLE the security dudes would only let you in through the right door. So I'm afraid you're gonna have to split up, or if you're lucky enough, swap with someone who has the same door ticket as your friend and go in together. Once you're inside, you can find each other on the floor easy enough, if you know which direction they're coming from.

Rhiannon
12-11-2006, 01:16 AM
Yeah, they're GA, probably should have mentioned that.

Thanks for that, Mel. I've been to Festy once before for P!ATD, I only went as far as door 1, but I can pretty much picture what you're talking about. The security was pretty strict then, too. The first support band was just starting, there was this huge pack at door 1 cause some chick was holding her ground of friends up and they wouldn't let me go through door 2.

Might attempt a ticket swap on the day, hope our luck's in. Thanks again!

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! The BIG DAY OUT is almost upon us and we are very excited to announce the third round of touring and local additions to the 2007 summer series!

THE VINES have come a long way since the early days of belting out Nirvana covers at suburban house parties. Garnering world-wide attention for their debut Highly Evolved, THE VINES have returned to prove they’ve got something more to offer than flannel-clad angst. Their highly anticipated third album, Vision Valley released in 2006 showcases a spectacular return to form. Don’t miss THE VINES’ highly evolved, eclectic hybrid of grungy, garage rock swagger, '60s psych, and '70s pop at a BIG DAY OUT near you this summer. (ALL SHOWS)

SNOWMAN is yet another incredible band to emerge from the thriving Perth music scene. Cinematic post-punk with a riff or two of surf and blues, SNOWMAN is the soundtrack to your imagination turned up to eleven. Their debut, Zombies on the Airwaves of Paris and their 2006 self titled album will leave you scrambling for adjectives. Call them strange, beautiful, jagged, swampy, hypnotic, ambient, loud, quiet, manic or whatever you will, but do not miss your chance to see what all the fuss is about at the BIG DAYS OUT. (ALL AUST SHOWS)

For a change of pace, listen up for the wisdom of the Jah Messenger, the reggae master, LUCIANO (Jamaica) at the BIG DAY OUT. Renowned worldwide for his rasta message of love and peace set to irresistible melodies and mellow, soulful vocals, LUCIANO will tantalize fans with his wit, charisma and good-lovin reggae vibes. (ALL SHOWS)

Previous winners of the Triple J Unearthed competition, the SICK PUPPIES have been living it large with the world-wide YouTube success of their “Free Hugs” music video campaign – even finding the time to jump on Oprah’s couch and then stop off in LA to record their new album. This fully sick guitar-fuelled three piece return to Oz for with a brand new album afoot and will rock BDO audiences into a frenzy around the country. (ALL AUST SHOWS)

DIGITAL PRIMATE is an underground legend. Since his first album release in ’95, DIGITAL PRIMATE has pushed the boundaries for Australian techno with his solid and dirty mix of ghetto techno, proper electro and Chicago style booty. With the release of his new album Siege Mentality, expect to see DIGITAL PRIMATE at the global forefront of electronica. Don’t forget, we saw him first… and this won’t be the last you’ll see of Digital Primate. (ALL AUST SHOWS)

Since stepping up to the decks in 1996, MARK MURPHY has become one of Sydney’s most loved and respected DJs. Champion of the electro explosion and the rave sounds emerging from Europe, his talents have been in demand at every major club and party in Sydney from Mardi Gras to Field Day. Make sure you get your dancing shoes on and boogie along to MARK MURPHY to your heart’s content at the BIG DAY OUT. (ALL AUST SHOWS)

There are many DJs in New Zealand, but none with the combination of skill and musical knowledge of DJ SIR-VERE. A hip hop pioneer, he's always been at the forefront of the movement, learning tricks of the trade from the likes of Grandmaster Flash. Now master of his art, Sir-Vere will take you on a hip hop journey serving up one hell of a block-rockin’ show for fans at the BDO. (NZ + EC)

BIG DAY OUT also welcomes THAT 1 GUY, (a.k.a Mike Silverman) (USA), a one-man band straight outta your imagination who plays a home made, seven foot tall, metallic Magic Pipe which he claims has a limitless harmonic, sonic and rhythmic range. Be prepared for an infectious and wildly innovative show, twisting up some funky bass-n-drum grooves to get you nodding your head and shifting your weight from one foot to the other at the BDO. (NZ + EC)

Not only is P-MONEY hailed as New Zealand's finest hip-hop producer, he is also regarded as one of NZ’s best DJs rocking clubs all over the world and spinning alongside the world°¶s finest DJs. From making his name via DJ competitions and his ongoing production efforts, P-Money has firmly established himself as one of the most prominent names in New Zealand music. (EC)

FOREIGN HEIGHTS is Australian hip hop to the power of three. For the first time in Oz hip hop history, three of this country’s hottest (and we do mean good looking) and most talented hip hop stars Trey, Maya Jupiter and DJ Nick Toth come together with ten years of hardcore hip hop behind them to produce the freshest beats and rhymes for your soul this summer. FOREIGN HEIGHTS will be running away to join the BIG DAY OUT circus and rocking the crowd along the East Coast. (EC)

In many ways, TZU (pronounced Tee Zed Yoo) are the Bill Murray of Australian hip hop. Funny but serious. Popular but arthouse. TZU stand out from the crowd with their unique instrumentation with Joelistics & Seed MC playing guitars, keyboards and drums, resulting in a mash of hip hop and blues, rock and pop. Renowned for their ultra-hyped live shows, they will surely rock your sweet socks off at the BDO. (EC).

After an initial journey into pop-punk playing guitar in Ben Lee's Noise Addict, MACROMANTICS discovered her true passion in hip hop. Now touted as Australia’s new hip hop royalty, she has built a solid rep for her enthralling, raw live performance which packs plentiful punches of passion and high energy. This girl has a hell of a talent for tongue twisting, tell-all rhymes that traverse through an array of musical and emotional terrain, and has proved herself as a force to be reckoned with. Let yourself be drawn in as MACROMANTICS captivates and enchants at the BDO. (EC)

BIG DAY OUT welcomes special guest, The Prodigy’s KEITH FLINT (Essex UK). Moving on from his previous solo projects “Flint” and “Clever Brains Fryin”, KEITH will be igniting BIG DAY OUT with his psychosomantic antics, teaming up with Heavy G for a set that will feature dancefloor killers aplenty. (EC)

From Japan we welcome DJ GEDO SUPER MEGA BITCH MRS FLINT 4 - little Mrs megabitch from hell! Unconcerned with the trilemma of genre, pitch and style, MEGA BITCH sets her own standards, does her own thing and continues the tradition handed down from Bruce Lee who taught, "Don't think, FEEEEEEEL!" (EC)

He’s the boy from the bush and he’s back in town for the BDO - along with his Alpha Male buddies. Since releasing their 2nd album Drowning In The Fountain Of Youth in August this year, DAN KELLY & THE ALPHA MALES have been hitting the road and taking their rootsy rock’n’roll grunt, dizzy melodies and crafty lyrics to the masses. The BIG DAY OUT welcomes DK & TAM to Sydney and Melbourne to complement your sunny afternoon with their intelligently agile, irreverently mischievous, psychedelic blue-eyed soul. (SYD + MELB)

BIG DAY OUT 2007 welcomes Melbourne’s favourite purveyors of introspective pop, GERSEY. Having taken a break after the release of their second album Storms Dressed as Stars GERSEY return in 2006 with their acclaimed third album No Satellites, showing us the finest sprawling cinematic atmospherics, noodley guitar and keyboard pop this country has to offer. Whether you’re in the mood for a melancholy melody tearing at your heartstrings or an optimistic pop tune, GERSEY will cure what ails you. (SYD + MELB)

Masters of defiant raucous soul rock’n’roll GROUND COMPONENTS are one of Melbourne’s favourite live acts. After releasing 2 EPs since 2002, GROUND COMPONENTS have finally released their much anticipated debut LP An Eye For a Brow and a Tooth For a Pick, a collection of songs that explore the band’s diverse musical influences and multi-instrumental talents. Their performance at BDO will herald the irresistible, simple, sharp songs and rock’n’roll variations on a theme that we’ve come to know and love! (SYD + MELB)

Sick Puppies are doing a free myspazz show somwehere.

ALso BDO is going to Showgrounds in 2008

Rhiannon

Yeah, I was really annoyed about that, cause it's in Sydney. Melbourne only ever gets the Secret Shows for artists I don't care about. But it's all good now.

12-13-2006, 06:39 PM
Kev beat me to posting it! But he had more news anyway. That's cool about Sick Puppies. They're playing at Ruby's next Wednesday too. I may check them out.

I didn't know about Mach Pelican either. Still waiting for my ticket to arrive.

Hey guys,
I know it's a long shot. But is there anyone, or anyone who knows of someone, with a spare BDO ticket for Melbourne who is willing to sell it? My friend missed out on getting a ticket and is now desperatly trying to find one without resorting to ebay.
Any help would be great.

Thanks

Grumma

I thought I knew someone but they ended up not selling

But will keep a heads up for ya *thumbs up*

Kev
12-22-2006, 02:31 PM
Kat try online at www.ticketmaster7.com.au

Apparently some people have purchased tickets from there within the last couple of days.

I don;t know if its true or not, but give it a try/.

Joshmother

I checked the Ticketmaster site, its definately sold out... my only option is to get a ticket off ebay, and although it'd cost a bucketload i really want to go...

grr why couldnt it just not sell out like other years..

ah well, if anyone knows of someone wanting to sell a ticket, even if its for more than the original cost let me know, itd be much appreciated

Some new news:

Tool are being supported by: The Sick Puppies apparently.

Thats what the music press peoples are saying. Pretty shit support if true.

cdejonge
12-28-2006, 09:24 AM
I've heard some good reviews of Sick Puppies gigs lately, but that's a weird support for Tool.

Something With Numbers are now playing at BDO in Sydney.

Does anyone know when they usually put up the list of times and stages that the bands are playing at and on?

Kev
12-28-2006, 05:29 PM
Its not too far off.

The NZ timetable is already out. But each year its out well before the other cities.

Plus the timetable is no indication of what to expect when and where in your city.

i just thought id tell all you people going to sydney that the same night as the BDO rodger waters (pink floyd) is playing at the superdome/acer arena...also at olympic park. gettin to the bdo shouldnt be any trouble (waters starts at 8pm) but going home theres probably gonna be a bit of a crowd!!! my dad is going to waters so im gonna catch the train in & get a lift home with him.

Kev

Timetables are up now.

You need a PDF viewer to read them.

Rhiannon
01-04-2007, 03:36 PM
That took me way too long to stop reading it sideways and realise I could rotate it. Thanks for posting.

Question, if I stayed and watched Trivium, would the hour in between them and when My Chem starts be leaving it too late to get to the front for MCR?

cdejonge
01-04-2007, 03:43 PM
Question, if I stayed and watched Trivium, would the hour in between them and when My Chem starts be leaving it too late to get to the front for MCR?I would say yes, or you may be lucky. Last year, it took all of Mudvayne's set to get back to front and that was on the very side of the barrier. You may be lucky though.

Rhiannon
01-04-2007, 03:49 PM
Righto, thanks. I think I'll give them a miss and just stalk the barrier, then.

cdejonge
01-04-2007, 03:51 PM
Damn, see what you mean - Trivium not on main stage. I'll look into it and let you know.

MCR on earlier than I expected. Few suprises on the big stages. I like the first 3 bands lined up for Orange stage though.

Kev
01-04-2007, 03:58 PM
I'm seeing:

7pm - 8pm: You Am I
8:30pm - 10pm: Tool

That is all.

Rhiannon
01-04-2007, 04:15 PM
We pretty much expected MCR to be on early-ish, cause they were in the NZ timetables. Probably like it better that way. Wont have to miss out on any of the good bands later on in the day. Loving that they're on around the same time as Kasabian, too.

Only other band I really wanted to see was Sick Puppies. Anything else I don't care if I miss.

Grumma
01-04-2007, 05:06 PM
MCR romance fans will all be younguns methinks.

Should be able to just bullock your way through them

cdejonge
01-04-2007, 05:19 PM
Had a better look at timetable. I'll just stay on main stages I think. Bit annoyed I'll miss The Herd and TZU though. Also Little Birdy. Guess can see them other times though.

Grumma
01-04-2007, 05:25 PM
Trivium and TOOL are the only 2 bands I'm remotely interested in seeing so other that it'll be lady hunting!

01-04-2007, 05:28 PM

Grumma
01-04-2007, 05:30 PM
Yeah.

Why would you think not?

Rhiannon
01-04-2007, 06:34 PM
Yeah, I'm not one for pushing to the front. I'll earn my spot.

Grumma
01-04-2007, 06:35 PM
Can I push and you just kinda hang off of me :p

I know a few people who have done that.

Its not volunteer, its like $15 an hour. But its cleaning work, and its a couple of days. I don't think I'm going to do it. Theres a high likelihood that I'll have to go near a porta-potty, and I just can't do that, even for $15 an hour.

Fair enough.

My mate did a cleanup of the Pyramid site last year. Backbreakign work, but he got $200 cash in hand at the end of the day.

He got sunburnt to the max0r and dehydrated.

Any idea how I could get a job like that?

In other news, I just won a truck load of CDs from the BDO for sharing my crappy story with the newzealanders on their myspaz.

Apparently I've won CDs from all the Mainstage artists and most of the other artists appearing at the BDO's.

My stories can be read Here (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=109799750&blogID=207237304&MyToken=bb6a813b-fd60-4bff-97ab-ba3ecf2a4814)

Tool: 8:30-10:00

Love you Grumma ;)

Hmmm may have to give TBE a miss in that case

Kev

Nah it won't be packed.

Only a couple of sleeps until the Auckland BDO.

Gig reviews can go in the other BDO topic in the Offtopic area. Cause that doesnt have as many pages as this one.

That sucks, this is the Big Day Out I'm really looking foward to going to, more than normal. Even last year can't compare, and last year had The Living End!

I'm sure that's like sacrilege saying that on these boards.

Yesss well because I am a tightarse I cant afford $120 (plus I really only want to see Muse) so if anyone from PERTH has a spare ticket they want to get rid of (bear in mind it hasnt sold out, so Im hopefully looking for under the $100 mark, dreaming I know) then a PM or an email would be greatly appreciated.

Fair long shot, but worth a crack none the less.

Thanks:D

I'd check, but it would take forever to load with the speed my net is currently at. They're playing 8:30 - 10pm at Melb, I dunno how much difference there is between timetables. Never bothered to check.

I was on the Connex website earlier, they're running extra trains for BDO: Article (http://www.connexmelbourne.com.au/news_connex/index_full.asp?thm=4&evn=292).

Only four more days until BDO :D

Can't wait to see You Am I and The Vines. Among others, but those are my favourite two bands going.

Kev
01-17-2007, 11:06 PM
I'm only going for You Am I and Tool.

Though if those two bands were to clash (which they didnt) I'd see You Am I over Tool.

You Am I are pretty much the only decent band on the list this year.

tainted_love
01-17-2007, 11:41 PM
You Am I, The Vines, Jet and The Killers are the only bands in the lineup that I own cd's of, but they are plenty of bands to keep me occupied for a full day. If it didn't clash with You Am I, I would have loved to go and hear John Cooper Clarke rant about things and recite poetry. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Big Day Out Clubtainer

Tune in to Myf, Jay & The Doctor in the morning, and Robbie Buck's Top Shelf in the afternoon every day this week for your chance to win double passes to triple j's Big Day Out CLUBTAINER

This is probably a really stupid question but if I won those tickets, I would still be able to go see the rest of the bands right? Unfortunately I only found out about this competition today so I've got two days left.. I listen to triple j quite a bit but never when they mentioned it.

Kev

I dont know. Its the first I've heard about it.

Kev
01-18-2007, 03:10 PM
Haha The Big Day Out promoters are asking people to wear non EMO offensive clothing,

So nothing that has phrases like "Go Cry Emo Kid" etc on them.

As if people aren't going to stop wearing stuff like that.

Bec
01-18-2007, 03:18 PM
Haha, is it okay to wear clothes that are offensive to people who aren't emos?

Kev
01-18-2007, 03:21 PM
Yeah I guess so.

To the tune of the TLC classic, No Scrubs, the Big Day Out says "we don't want no studs, studs is a thing that'll get no love from us, hanging outside the Big Day Out in your best friend's ride, is where it'll have to stay."

It is as simple as that. We're sorry but these items will be removed from anyone's possession at the gate. Our definition of potentially dangerous weapons is fair, but at our discretion. It really is quite simple though, don't wear studded belts, bands or chains and you'll be OK.

And think carefully about whether the slogan on your t-shirt might hurt someone's feelings too. If it says "go cry, emo kid," that really is quite mean.

for fucks sake, when did a rock and roll festival turn into a fucking cotton wool convention?

"Organisers should cancel the Australia Day eve Big Day Out concert in Sydney rather than ban the flag at Thursday's event, parliamentary secretary for immigration Andrew Robb says.

NSW Premier Morris Iemma and the RSL also condemned the decision to ban the flag, describing it as "outrageous" and "unbelievable".

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/ban-big-day-out-not-flag-robb/2007/01/22/1169330795860.html

The picture of Chris jumping around the stage in his Aussie flag boxers was used to accompany the article.

This BDO is turning into a mess. What an absolute joke.

Expect the BDO to ban people next year, as people can cause trouble, and we don't want trouble. So you'll be able to buy your ticket, but not go.

At least its only in Sydney.

Too bad they didnt use the picture of chris where you can see a bit of bouncy bouncy going on in the boxers. It would have been much funnier.

By doing this, I hope the promoters realilse that there is going to be an abundance of Australian flags at the Big Day Out now. People are going to bring it just out of spite. Hell, i think its stupid to wear the Australian flag around, but if I was going I'd be bringing one for sure.

Sarah
01-22-2007, 06:12 PM
As would I.

Surely this is causing more problems than if they just allowed the flag in in the first place. The riots were seriously uncool, but maybe they should be uping their security instead of banning the flag.

Maybe they could have just banned Australians.

Today I was reading the paper and actually decided to pay attention and immediately thought if it was last year they banned the aussie flag etc would they have confiscated the aussie boxer shorts the boys wore?

I feel sorry for Jet too because their background is the aussie flag just in black and white, I don't think their allowed to use it..

Why can't people just wear what ever they want??

The way its all going in a couple of years there will most likely be no BDO.

Kev
01-22-2007, 08:04 PM
The BDO couldn't be on Australia day this year, due to it being too close to the Melbourne event.

Now the BDO organisers have done a backflip and said the media got it all wrong and whatnot. But they're allowing the flag, but would like to discourage it.

Who went to Gold Coast BDO?

I had a fucking good time, and even found time to see some bands. My top 5 for the day were as follows..

1. The Vines
2. You Am I
3. Violent Femmes
4. Vegas Kings
5. Snowman

(Yeah, I know noone will agree with the last two, but they were so rad)

Kev

I heard the Vines have been nothing but shit. also with the Violent Femmes, alot of hardcore fans were disappointed. as well as some new fans too.

I'll have to disagree, I went to the Violent Femmes never having heard a song of theirs asides from Blister in the Sun and I reckon they were easily one of the best bands of the day. As for The Vines, I think asides from You Am I they sounded better live than any other band. You Am I still have the best live sound of all time, though.

No thanks, but if your camera takes decent videos and you're watching the killers and it's not too much trouble, could you possibly take a video of All These Things That I've Done?

Also do you know if I'd be allowed to hang around outside the fence and listen to a few bands, or would security make me move away?

Should be okay to hang around fences. Just walk away and come back if people give you funny looks.

sydney was great!!!! we got there just as kamahl was singing 'i still call australia home'...which was definately the highlight of the spazzy's set!!!
highlights were evermore, john butler trio & jet. the killers played really well but the people around me didnt really get into them & thus i didnt have the best time. my chemical romance suffered from sound problems so that ruined their set.
best moment of the day was evermore covering john lennons stand by me...great singalong!!!
i also went off when eskimoe joe played new years day (U2).
overall a great day with lots of aussie flags!!! it also wasnt too hot either!!

Good day it was.

I had 1 & Half hours sleep since I got home from work sunday morning till when the bus left.

Acts I saw were:

Triple J unearthed winners.
Lily Allen (For 2 songs. She was freeakin terrible)
Hot Chip. (For 1 song)
Killers (For 1 song)
You Am I - Winnars of the day. Best freakin band on the bill.
Muse. Im no fan, but whilst waiting for tool, the Half hour I saw was pretty good. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on a copy of their set.
TOOL. Freaking unbelievable. Sound might have been shit for a bit, but once we moved the sound was great. Looking forward to Wednesday night.

Highlight: Almost getting run over by Tool. Maynard and Justin were in the back of the Tarago and smiled and waved. That was cool.

I was on barrier until My Chemcial Romance. Photos don't seem that good (haven't uploaded yet though). Videos will hopefully come out well. I have stuff from later in the day but I was towards the back.

Muse, Tool, MCR, The Killers and Sick Puppies were my favourites for the day. Was a bit too crowded this year for me.

EDIT: Uploading now. I'll put all my photos online, and most of the videos. I have videos of most bands on main stage (except John Butler Trio and Eskimo Joe). If anybody wants certain bands uploaded first let me know.

Little Birdy weren't bad at all, they did a cover of a gyroscope song, think its beware wolf which was pretty cool for somethin different. Highlights of the day were most definatly:

The Vines: Awsome set, did make me realise that all their songs are rather short though, Craig Nicholls said how much he loves Brisbane. It's great watching the vines because you never know if you'll be able 2 say you were there the day Craig Nicholls died.

Dan Kelly & The Alpha Males: another top set, the highlight being the request to sing along in the chorus to Drunk On Election Night. (nothing like singing bout how much of a "cocksucker" john howard is).

And of Course.... YOU AM I. Once again proving that they are one of the best bands to ever grace the stage. Yay i got Andy Kent's pick! (doesnt make me play any better)

Random Notes and Highlights:

Muse were great and really lived up to the hype.

John Butler wouldv'e been majorly pisd off when the "hand of god" shot out flames and black smoke.

The Spazzys guitarist's sunnies falling off mid song to reveal that she could barely open her eyes.

Quotable Quote: If you cant be arrogant when your the lead singer of a rock band then when can you??? Tim Rogers.
