well, i was just sitting here minding my own business, when i felt something on my arm, i brushed it, and then thought i must had just touched my arm in the first place, but i lifted it up and a spider fell off me  i won't be getting much sleep tonight lol

spiders are ok, as long as they aren't on me, i dunno what it is, but they're disgusting little creatures.
for example, a huntsman, harmless, i've woken up on camps with them on the wall next to me and not batted an eyelid, but oh boy if one of them crawled on me he'd get thrown across the room.
there's something sinister about them

anyway, what creeps you out to no end?

Cockroaches. I can't STAND them and i don't know why. It's completely irrational. They're just gross looking and they freak me out so bad.

Spiders i don't mind...i can deal with them. In fact there's one that lives in my room and sometimes i wake up with a (love)bite or two...so he obviously enjoys sleeping with me...until i roll on him or something.

Yeah me too for clowns. And snakes (especially sea snakes, they scare me more than sharks and Steve Irwin killing stingrays combined)

Kevin

ugh, open water... strangely enough that i mostly do water sports, but being alone, floating in a large body of water with no idea what is below me is freaky

The novel by King is actually one of my favourites. The movie did it no justice.

I get freaked out by ear stretching things and large earrings because i split my ear open when I was younger.

Crowds annoy me, but mostly shopping centre style crowds where all you can see is a sea of people floating around. It makes me feel uneasy.

Jake
10-06-2006, 07:42 AM
I get a bit freaked out by strangers touching me. Like in crowded trains, if someone needs to get past and puts their hand on my shoulder or something as they go past..hate that. Not a phobia really, just really don't like it.

BeaglesRule
10-06-2006, 08:31 AM
Crowds, and also small spaces, I can't even sit in the driver's seat of a sports car. Oh, heights, too, I'm short so it I guess I'm not used to them:p .

Papercuts. In a big way, I feel sick even thinking about them. Gives my friends lots of amusement, they'll spend all day trying to papercut themselves [or me].

wow - this is a really cool thread!

one of my biggest fears is the dark -proviso's being:
1. when everything else is silent
2. only after i've seen a scary movie/tv show (or read a scary book)

because i have to wear glasses i always tend to see face shapes in the trees when i'm not wearing them and thus often freak out when i have to be near a window while it's dark...

Moths and butterflies also tend to freak me out

EDIT*: i also have an irrational fear of Bot Flies that i realised when i watched a docco on South America - *shudder* those things traumatise me!

Spiders, swimming in open water, mines (the hole-in-the-ground type, not the explodey type), needles (injection type, not sewing or knitting type).

The Dying Start

I don't like confined spaces, and i'm a bit weird about heights...which is weird because I was always up trees as a kid...and that never bothered me.

Syringes/needles (sewing ones are ok though), telephones, escalators and elevators, and at times - swimming in the ocean.
Oh and touching other people or people touching me. Oh man thats a big phobia of mine. I can't even touch my best friends arm without freaking out :(

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i dont want to live to 100!!! damn it bring back euthanasia!!! if ur old and in pain and want to die i dont see whats the problem?

but the thing is, if medical technology and such advances so much you may not have to be in pain. euthansia can be kinda dangerous anyway, like im not against it. but someone could be persuaded by family members to end their lives, etc, especially if they aren;t mentally fit.
i think it would be weird to reach 100 though. i volunteer at an aged care home and the lady i see is 96.

Well when i was little i used to be scared of thunderstorms....a tree outside my house got struck by lightning when i was a toddler..that was probably why.

Heights, the ocean, touching cotton wool and whenever i see a syringe or spiders or something on the ground for some reason i get the feeling like i've been bitten or scratched by it when the closest i've gotten is 2 metres away....then it's panic attack mode. :(

I found this in a trivia book:

Androphobia is a fear of men.
Caligynephobia is a fear of beautiful women.
Pentheraphobia is a fear of a mother in-law.
Scopophobia is a fear of being looked at.
Phobophobia is a fear of being phobias.
Mageiriophobia is intense fear of having to cook.
Papaphobia is a fear of popes.
Taphephobia is a fear of being buried alive.
Clinophobia is a fear of beds.

I think I have Taphephobia.

These aren't really phobias, more things that make me nervous, but I'm scared of being trapped underwater. I'm fine if I'm just swimming normally but doing things like capsize drills with those stupid kayaking skirt things (we had to do them for in camp in year 9) scares me shitless.
Also I get really nervous talking to groups of people I don't know well and talking on the phone to people I don't know well, not too sure why.
I think that's about it.

i was at the swimming pool once, and they had like this foam floaty thing on the water, so i thought id just swim under it, so i told my friend to wait before he jumped on it, but he didnt and so i was running out of air cause when he jumped it scared me and so i was trying to swim up and past the foam, but cause he had moved the water it was making the mat thing move further and further. i thought i was gonna drown. then i got stuck in a rip once, and that was scary and then i nearly drowned when i massive wave went over my head. I dont know which is worse, that or nearly getting hit by lightning, both bad...

Wow, that's really freaky Erin and Jodez
I haven't really had anything too bad happen. The worst swimming related thing I've had happen to me was when I was about 10ish, at a swimming pool at some resort type place and there was a little concrete thing you had to swim under to get to the other part of the pool with a gap in the middle so you could get air if you needed it. It wasn't very long but I'd been underwater for a while so I went to get air from the gap in the middle, but the sun was shining at a funny angle and made it look like the whole was closer than it was, so I swam up and instead of getting air, I missed the hole and bashed my head on the concrete really hard instead. Pretty stupid of me really, I had a big lump for a few weeks and that was about it

Erin
10-08-2006, 05:27 PM
there was a little concrete thing you had to swim under to get to the other part of the pool with a gap in the middle so you could get air if you needed it.

even if there WAS air, i would stay on the other side :D

i was on a waterslide in NSW once, it was covered up (it was'nt those ones that have the top half open is what i'm trying to say) i went in and slid down. i couldn't see a fuckin thing (well hey, it was called the 'black hole') i was ok with that. what i wasn't ok with was the water was getting into my nose and mouth and the lack of air i was breathing.

first and last time i went on it :(

(hey erin, at least you weren't freaked of stupid "yellow-gates-at-the-train-station" like i was.. what i was scared of..... well it wasn't normal.. :) )

i get freaked that i do too much for other people and not enough for me... right now im broke cuz i bought stuff for my friends.. but im happy.. of course :)

i tried getting rid of the habit of ALWAYS doing things for other people and making my life miserable, but it dont work

1. buy something for friends, i feel happy cuz i did something nice, but sad cuz i forgot to get a lil something for me
2. i buy stuff for me, happy for me, but sad cuz i forgot my friends

We not know how to swim and scary open water.

But most of all cockroaches and spiders we hate drunkards and "rigalovka" - small post-Soviet "burp'snack-bar" where "serving" 100 gramme of vodka in plastic cup with wash down childrens sweet drinks right near the selling counter!
Do you have such stuff in AU?

Im paranoid about zombies. but not scared. PARANOID. i KNOW theyre coming to get me. i have a million plans and they each have a million backup plans and i know that the best way to kill a zombie is by destroying the spinal cord and i have like 20 people sworn to help me when Z-Day gets here.

but im scared of heights.

I have a massive phobia or fishing hooks. Specifically, getting stabbed in the eye with one. I can't go near one without freaking out. Even seeing a picture of one puts me on edge.
hahaha I know that's random.

also, I have a bit of an irrational fear of talking on the phone and even calling in prescriptions and such with the automated voice scares me a bit. obviously though, I've kind of forced myself to get over it.

and I'm also terrified of touching showerheads ever since I went to Guatemala, where the showerheads spouted sparks.

I thought I'd posted in this, but apparently not.

WAX PEOPLE. I am deathly afraid of wax people, I can't even describe the feeling I get when I'm near one.

Oh, and the fear is only when I'm near one. Not seeing them on tv or anything (eg. House of Wax).
