Well!
For those of you watching - what a race it's been!
How many cars have been knocked out already? Paul Radisich has been sent in the CareFlight to a Sydney hospital, the safety car's been out for ages - it's nuts!
Personally I've got my hopes on either the Kelly brothers or Greg Murphy and Cam McConville picking up the trophy - it'd be fitting for a Holden driver to win it for the first time.
Okay, scrap Murphy/McConville - they've just been knocked out also!
*cries*

I'm really sad. Murph is a great guy on and off the track and I was really hoping that he'd win Bathurst again today.
When my brother took me to a signing thing to meet Murph last year the first thing he said was "G'day love, how's it going?" but the way he said it made me laugh, it was a tad embarrassing, but yeah he's a great guy. I was also hoping that Skaifey would do well, but man what an eventful Bathurst?!
I'm still sitting here wearing my Murph shirt. The only hope now is the Kelly brothers, let's hope they can stay out of trouble.
I hope to god a ford doesn't win now.

This race is just knocking people out, left right and centre! It's making my head hurt more :p

Yeah its annoying. With the amount of time that the safety car has been out today I'm wondering if it's gonna get clasified in the official results! :p
Someone needs to remind the drivers that it's Bathurst, not pin ball!

Hopefully the last 30 laps or so will just be straight racing so that it makes it slightly more interesting!
We've had the telly on all day, but I havn't been paying much attention. Fancy Skaifey getting knocked out in the first few seconds!
Oh and.. go Ford!

Geesus Ally, what are you smoking? Those ford guys are the most arrogant bastards under the sun. Like Justin from EOF.
Besides this Bathurst is a tribute to Brocky, a Holden should take it out. Go the Kelly bro's. I'm praying Lowndes screws up too.

15 laps to go - here's hoping there's either a) a safety car or b) Lowndes crashes into a wall or something!
*shrugs* I'm never that interested in cars, but my dad and brother have brought me up as a Ford girl.

I was going to write the same thing but didn't wanna sound totally mean to the Ford fans.
Haha he just locked his brakes, here's hoping he gets a flat spot.
Poor Ally :p

Yes, you have to put up with all Ford's crap now and them going on and on about how good they were today. It was purely through the other team's bad luck that they happened to win.
For fuck's sake Lowndes needs to dry up!!
In other news, our water restrictions are over thanks to him.

Lowndes wouldn't have won if it wasn't for Brocky.

Hmm yeah agree with you there.
I wonder how Radisich is going? Last I heard he wasn't too good.

He's talking and is conscious, so that's good news.
Still no more on Mark Porter - still on life support, still clinging to life - definitely not good. http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,20544788-23770,00.html
Big weekend on the mountain...

Good news about the rat then.
I really hope Porter manages to pull through this, poor guy. That was probably the worst accident I've ever seen in V8 supercars.
Caity

It was just an overall bad accident - the whole weekend has been shit, to put it simply.

What a race...
I am sorta happy that Lowndes won it though. I'm a holden man, but I would've been happy if any of the guys on the podium had come first.
Damn shame about Skaife though..

I'll admit that if it had to be Ford, I'd want it to be Lowndes. Doesn't mean I wanted him to get it, it's just like a forced decision, you know?
I'm glad Seton did as well as he did - I half kinda sorta maybe respect him too :p
i'm glad lowndes won it. i'm not into racing as much as some people. i watch it here and there, like today i watched quite a bit :D

Paul Radisich used to go to my High School. Aparently he was a bit of a smartarse in his day.

Yeah.. if you look at his name.. he sounds like a smartarse just from his name. :p
But I do feel sorry for the bloke though. Man he hit that wall hard.

It's so so sad - the thing was, you could tell by the news reports and press releases that they weren't really confident that he was going to pull through, but it's still so awful to hear it :(

Really sad to hear about Porter, that was a nasty nasty prang.
Im a 100% HRT fan but Im glad Lowndes won, that trophy meant more to him than anyone else on the track.
(But still, would have been fitting for the factory Holden team to win...)

That's terrible about Mark Porter. His family must be in a terrible state at the moment as would the other driver that crashed into him.

Everybody is praising David Clark for turning the car sideways to minimise the impact - had he hit full-on, Porter would have died pretty much instantly.
Julian
10-09-2006, 09:45 PM
I'm definantley not a racing guru but wouldn't Clark have been safer if he didn't slide. Cause he slid in so that the side he was on got impacted on. Very good guy if he did!
Caity
10-09-2006, 09:49 PM
What I mean is, if Clark didn't put the car sideways, his car would have gone straight into the drivers door of Porter, whereas because he slid, the impact was spread out along the length of Porter's car, minimising the impact on Porter himself.
Aaron

I think Julian was making a point that Clark didn't just consider Porter's wellbeing, but he actually acted in self-sacrifice, too.

This is really sad to hear. In WA our road death tally is rising at such an alarming rate, its like we've had at least one fatal accident a day for the past few weeks. And apparently we are more than 20 road accidents over the fatalities as this time last year.
The world has gone crazy the past month
its scary. i know people die everyday and its a sad thing but this month and last month has been a bit below the belt for people
Caity

This whole year - deaths all around. The world is going crazy.
FNQ had something like 8 deaths over the weekend - it's nuts.

I am also an HRT fan also, and I was also glad to see Lowndes win. And obviously the trophy did mean a hell of a lot to him. But I don't think you can really say for sure that that trophy meant more to him than anyone else..

I'm a Holden fan, but if a ford had to win it shoulda been Lowndesy...and it was! Top bloke despite his error in judgement to move to the darkside.
RIP to Mr Porter...it sucks that stuff like that happens, but that's motorsport. 4th death on Mt Panorama, and the FIRST death on the actual mountain section...so anyone saying how the track is unsafe because of all the turns and crests can fuck right off.
I feel sorry for Clarkey...but he did the right thing, that handbrakey he pulled was only JUST off the mark...he would have hit directly side on and probably saved both of the drivers alot of injury, but if you watch the replay the weight of the front end carried too much momentum and he couldn't get it to flatten out.
Anyway, sad stuff...but these things happen unfortunately.

We were talking about it in the car yesterday and I think there'd be a lot of people it would mean just as much to. Jim Richards for example - co driver and mate for how long? Imagine if he'd had his name on there - obviously, he wasn't really in with a chance at winning the damn thing but his name would be just as worthy as Lowndes.
I think it's fairest to say that there were a few people racing that would have been worthy of their name on it for the first time, and it would have meant a lot to a lot of the racers that day too.

Yeah. And Skaife was obviously completely gutted. When he was interviewed he was nearly in tears.
I would've been happy to see Seton win also. That would've been something special.

We get the Melbourne Herald Sun sent up, obviously a day or so late due to transport. I was reading the Sunday Herald Sun yesterday - the back page was a photo of Skaifey saying something like "I'll do it for Brocky" - if only, hey?
Poor bloke - you don't often see him let his emotions out like that but, as you put it John, he was gutted.
He was back in Melbourne 15 laps before the end of the race - got the first plane outta there, poor bloke.
I'm kinda glad Seton at least got a podium finish - he's an alright bloke. Just. :p
Poor Brad Jones - as much as he's a Ford driver, I always feel sorry for the guy. Something always happens to stuff him around, and this weekend was the worst of it all :(
