...with my English assignment?

First off - as far as I'm aware, anyone who's in year 11 currently in NSW did a similar assignment for their prelims, so they'd be of great help!

Basically, we have to pick a theme - I'm doing 'change' - and find two poems, a novel and a film which relates to it, then write an analytical essay under exam conditions on how the author/s represent the chosen theme in each genre.

Novel: 'Away' - Michael Gow
Poems: 'Change Upon Change' - Elizabeth Barrett Browning
'Change Poem' - Sri Chimnoy
Film: __________________

This is where you come in!

Any suggestions of a film which contains a theme of change - it'd preferably be promoting change, rather than resisting as that's what's in 'Away' so I want a contrast.

Any help is MUCH appreciated :D

oh I didn't like that movie..

Hmm, I think nearly every movie is about change to some extent, perhaps whether it's to get the bad guys out of the picture, or perhaps some of those cheesy 'coming of age' movies, about growing up, or getting out of childhood or away from the daily grind.. I'm no movie buff, but I hope that I might have given you an idea..?

Caity

Yeah, we went and saw it for Drama last term, and did an essay on it so I figured that could only be to my advantage haha!

Sister Act.

I just thought of one (after reading Kim's suggestion) - Blues Brothers would almost work :p

I hope you know mine wasn't a serious suggestion.

Though I do have a serious suggestion for you. Encino Man. That's a lot about change. Think how hard it would be to adjust from being an iceman to being a regular 80's child. That and Pauly Shore is awesome.

Good idea Kimmy! I like it!!

If you pick a movie that deals with death there will be a lot of change in it for the charachters and it will explore how they all cope with it. I'm not sure what movie that would be but i'm pretty sure they all would be the same.

You could also try:
Mississippi Burning (how the negroes and white people cope with the disruptions and changing of the town during the investigation.
Looking for Alibrandi (even though it is a book): How Josie changes throuout her final year at high school. That would be a good one to do but i don't know if you would be asllowed seeing as it is based on a book.
Lord of the Flies (another book: How the boys change whuile they are on the island. They go from well brought up kids to savages due to having no parents and rules. That's a change.

Anyway - hope that helps. If i think of more movies i will post em up.

Looking For Alibrandi - it's a movie too which means I could do it. But, we studied it in Year 11 so that rules it out.

I'm liking Encino Man - everyone clap for Kim!

Hmmm....your essay question seems fairly easy. I WANNA GO TO AUSTRALIA! I had this ridiculously long strupidly pompous hard question for my mock history exam today about Challenges to the English Church in 1558-1625. Had all these fucked up things that we had to include.... RIDICULOUSLY HARD.

Good luck with it :)

Haha thanks for the thought Aaron - I think I'd be pushing my luck if I hassled you on this one :p Besides, I wouldn't be able to afford the M&M's :p

Oh wait. I have another one.

Shawshank Redemption. It's of a guy who goes to jail for something he didnt do and how he copes with life inside (the room!). You could do how he changes to cope with life inside. Although it probably wouldn't be the best movie to do.

Change- i think you should do "what Becomes Of The Broken Hearted" GREAT FILM. Huge contrast from the first film in regards to how much Jake "The Muss" has changed. First Film = Abusive bad Maori, 2nd film = GOOD GUY. Hmmm i was gonna say Terminator 2....

Surely you could work Harry Potter into this somehow?
Or LOTR!
I managed to work both of them into almost all my english assignments (and even a few science ones) some way or another.

Not cumpulsory for year 11 or 12 because we did it in year 8 or 9.

Haha it mustn't be compulsory 'cos we don't do Alibrandi at my school.

So I dunno...

hillaas
10-12-2006, 11:17 PM
I doubt it would be. The themes in it arent good enought to study in year 12 i reckon.

Colezy

I'm pretty sure it's not compulsory.. then again, nothing in the tassie curriculum is ever the same as any other state!
Alibrandi was really popular at my high school for english. It became so popular that the teachers told us not to do it cause they were sick of seeing it and having to mark another piece of work based on it! I loved the movie though :)

Both were good I reckon.

I wish that our school would let us write essays on whatever book or event we want.
I want more toasted cheese sandwiches.
I just drank water.
It's too hot to go to bed but i should.
OK, i'm off then. See ya all later.

Hehe, we had to do Alibrandi in Grade 9, didn't get a choice. I think we had to do a couple of John Marsden books too, one about some girl who like Taekwondo or something like that and had a car accident, and another which I think was 'So much to tell you'. Ah, google has just reminded me it was about boarding school, kinda dark from memory.

lucky for me I never had to do it.
Oh, hang on. I think i DID have to watch the film in year 9 or something.
I'd read the book before then and it was sooo lame. anyone who likes it is the biggest girl ever.
