i understand where you're coming from Thommo - it makes sense that it's someone's job to take amazing photos at gigs but posting them on the internet is really just asking for trouble when it comes to people "borrowing them" for their own use

i agree that people should probably seek permission before doing anything to the images but at the same time - once they're online... *shrugs*

i don't have enough brain power to express what i'm wanting to say - but suffice to say i've taken out the picture that i had here on this site as well as how i was able to navigate to it.

just letting everyone know that prior to what you may believe most aussie rock photographers dont make anymoney.

i love this thread as much as everyone else, its just taht whoever the photographer was that took that shot hasnt watermarked it so they have no credit to it.

i am now watermarking all my shots mainly to draw some attention to get more gigs.

I have already let the photographer know that there is a link on this site. Well one of them, I'm going to email the second one in a moment.

I see it as a courtesy thing. This way we all get to see the photos and and the photographer gets exposure too. I usually give a link to a site and name the photographer (like I did in the other pic thread). But yeah, I know where you're coming from. Glenn had some of his work flogged off by someone once.

haha i'm astounded that having a photo that's been taken by someone else on my computer can get me sued - even though it's just for me to look at...

similarly, i'm a bit surprised that FL feels more secure with the "right click save as" disabled... there are SO many ways around "right click save as" it's a bit scary really!

it's unfortunate but true that with computers and the software you can get with them at the moment that - short of chopping out the exact bit that everyone wants to see... then there are going to be people that can get around these things... it's either that or crap resolution - and no photographer i know appreciates seeing their work represented at a less than perfect reproduction (i did photography at uni so i know about these things)

and yes - thankyou for bringing this to our attention - makes for an interesting monday afternoon thought-provoking session!

Thommo, I won't get in to an arguement with you regarding watermarks & copyrights etc....I have just recently gone through a thing with an image of the MM9 drummer using a shot without prior consent for advertising the Billy Hyde National Drumming Festival - printing in Drum Media within a full page spread on the back page, website advertisements & posters in-store....they went out of the way to use the image without asking the photographer & removing the watermark, thinking they could get away without any form of credit or payment.

Now at the moment, the shoots for FasterLouder I am only doing low res images which will hopefully prevent the use of them being printed, but of course not preventing web use....it's so hard to police, anything happens these days! Read many stories regarding the issue

Anyway....lately I have no been watermarking....has been more of an issue of just getting the shots out their for FL, since I was shooting for them....and already editing for 3-6hours depending on the shoots....it just added another task to the list

i love my photos huge too - but if she's only doing a wallpaper with images of Thommos (if it's ok to make them into a wall paper too - i don't know what's happening there...) 72dpi is sufficient - so a re-size shouldn't be an issue to get bigger images but with more preferable res for monitors...

did that make any sense...
