I'm going to the 2nd show (pretty sure it is anyway) on November 19 at Telstra Dome (Melbourne). I keep forgetting about this, because it was in March originally.
I'll be at the 2nd Melbourne gig.
Can't wait. Should be good.
A girl at work is jealous that Im going, cause I get to see Kanye and U2 on the same day.

A girl at work is jealous that Im going, cause I get to see Kanye and U2 on the same day.haha, it's an interesting mix, but one that I like. I have seats on the 2nd level I think, fairly close to the stage (so on the side).
Where are your seats?

I'm not going, but i'm trying to get tickets to the Make Poverty History concert in Melbourne. U2 aren't advertised as being on the bill... but seing it's Bono's favourite charity at the moment they probably be there.
Bono will be doing a speech, and thats it. Nothing exciting.
As for my seats, I'm sitting on the 2nd level somewhere. I know its opposite to where I sat for Green Day.
Kanye should be interesting. Bono and mr West have become good buddies and want to collaborate, so we could see something together when theyre downunder.
I love Kanye's two albums. and his DVD is fantastic.

My Mate got the plane tickets and the concert tickets a couple of days before they delayed it. Stinkin U2. They think they're too good for Perth <_<
I heard from another place on the internerd that BJA is gonna be out here to perform with U2. I would say that it isnt that unlikely.

:| If Billie Joe plays with U2 I'm gonna be so much more pissed that I'm not going. If he does, it would probably just be one song. Which would still be awesome. But, does that make you feel better?

Lol. Nope. :| He could just walk on stage, wave, then run off and I'd still be gutted that I missed it.
I apologise. :) Anyway, what was the source of this rumour?
Was posted on the BDO forums.
basically it was someone who said they seen him at the airport with his partner.
Though there is some credibility to this rumour, a few reporters and people who are close to the band said during rehearsals they have heard the 'The Saints Are Coming' being played.
And I read somewhere else that another song was being played with a different vocalist..

Me too. I think if that happens I may actually cry for days. Seriously - Green Day is my life, it's so sad.
Apparently tonights show was above awesome.
We're waiting on reviews to come through to websites, so we can find out if BJ did come to australia or not.

07.11.2006
'The Last of the Rock Stars'
From Blinding Lights to flying a Kite, U2 played their first show in Australia for eight years tonight and 50,000 fans in Brisbane got to hear tracks the band haven't played on the entire tour.
Was it really seven months back, in Argentina, that we last heard the familiar chords of City of Blinding Lights cutting the night air to bring on the Vertigo? Tonight, as Bono emerged from a puff of smoke stage left, all that was forgotten as he hailed this 'City of Brisbane...'
'Neon heart dayglo eyes
A city lit by fireflies
They’re advertising in the skies
For people like us...'
Deafening reception for some of the songs tonight, as powerful as ever on this tour, which started out (can you believe it?) in March 2005. Maybe that's because while most Europeans and Americans were hearing songs from 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' for the first time, here in Australia fans are also hearing tracks like from 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' live for the first time.
The atmosphere was cooking by the time we reached Until The End of the World, with Bono throwing water over the audience and Edge throwing some classic rock'n'roll shapes down on the B-stage. New Year's Day and Beautiful Day raised the temperature higher, and a beautiful rendition of Yahweh allowed us all to catch our breath.
Here, as several times tonight, the band went out of their way to thank people for their patience in waiting for them to reach these shores again.
Sunday Bloody Sunday saw a call for the return to Australia of David Hicks, an Adelaide-born Muslim convert, detained at Guantanamo Bay since being captured with Taliban forces in Afghanistan five years ago. 'In our twenties,' recalled Bono, 'We used to do a lot of work for Amnesty and tonight we're still working for them. We're calling for David Hicks to be bought back to Australia to face fair trial here.'
A sweet young kid called Cassidy joined Bono in the spotlight as the stadium resounded with the chant of 'No more, no more', and, with Larry and Adam playing like it was seven days not seven months since their last live set, we were into the fiercest section of the show: Sunday segueing into Bullet and on into Miss Sarajevo, the UN Declaration of Human Rights scrolling down the huge screens.
The first encore of Zoo Station, The Fly and With or Without You was a bit special, but the second was wonderfully unpredictable - three tracks that haven't appeared anywhere on the tour to date. First up was The Saints Are Coming, only the second time the band have played it live - and the first without collaborators Green Day. Then, in complete contrast, a 1980's classic Angel of Harlem (a few heads here tonight harking back to the Love Town Tour) and finally 'Who's to say where the wind will take you?/ Who's to know what it is will
break you ?'
For Kite the band welcomed on stage an additional instrumentalist in the person of Tim Moriarty. Bono explained that Tim's father is a tribal elder and that his grandfather - get this - came from Dingle, in the west of Ireland. 'We love this magical place,' he mused of Australia. 'Like many generations of Irish before us.'
As Bono lets go of a real kite, taking off high above the sea of people, the light fell on Tim, playing his didgeridoo for Kite. Now that really was a bit of a first.
'I know that this is not goodbye,' sang Bono, hugging Tim, as the show came to a moving end and the kite flew out of the stadium and into the night sky.

IT WAS THE BEST 2 CONCERTS IVE EVER BEEN TO!!! the second show was slightly better than the first (desire & still havent found were played). i spent 36 hours at telstra stadium the last 2 days!!! but it was worth it!!! it was so hot especially on the second day when the stupid security guys made us move really close together & stand up for 3 hrs!!! & even though my legs are about to fall off it was so worth it & id do it all again. still thinkin bout going to the 3rd sydney show!!! IT WAS SO GOOD!!!
Good to hear you enjoyed it.
This time next week I'll be in Melbourne getting ready to head to Telstra Dome.

I just checked all seating for both nights on Ticketmaster site and doesn't look it. Although, I wouldn't trust Ticketmaster for anything ...
oh well, im not that fussed anyway. Not really a fan of U2 was thinking of going only for the stage show and for a night out.
I'll just spend 100 on drinks instead. I'll end up singing U2 songs karaoke style by the end of the night!

It was the same with Coldplay this year. I wasn't much of a fan, but was one of the best concerts I've been to.

For those that have been, just wondering what time it has finished. And also post starting time in case it's different to Melbourne.
I want to take public transport but not sure what time last train is on Sunday night.
I read somewhere that it will finish about 11pm.
Then theres the whole leaving the stadium thing, which could take a while. Or could be fairly quick.

Don't think you'll have to worry about missing the train, Connex are running extra trains before and after the concert on both nights.
I wish they had of done that for Green Day, wouldn't have been walking around the city until 4am trying to catch a cab. :|

After Green Day my friend and I hung around Crown a bit. But we'd parked there any way. I remember all the looks I was getting with my green hair.
Anyway, 5 days until U2 :)
Thats very nice of Connex.
I'll be parking at Crown in their $5 all day parking area.

I just read an article about last night gig in Melbourne. Apparently there was 60,000 people - I'll be interested to see how the stage is set up, etc.
Also, there were problems with some tickets. No suprises there - ticketmaster and Telstra Dome. Bad combination.
luke_the edge_dragons
11-19-2006, 03:51 PM
what problems with tickets? when we were lining up at sydney a telstra stadium person came around & said that although the tickets for the original shows should work, they may have become faded cause we'd had them for so long & therefore we could go & get them reprinted at the box office window if they were too hard to read. i didnt do it cause the line was too long & i was scared theyd let people in early but my tickets had no problem & i didnt see anybody else with problems. but that was ticketek. ive never used ticketmaster.

11-19-2006, 04:09 PM
I'm too lazy to go find the article again. I think it only affected 200 people or so. Might have been that fading issue.
Sunday's show was good. But needed less political shit.
Peter Garett was there. He danced like a dancing machine apparently.
Setlist:
City of Blinding Lights
Vertigo
Elevation
Until The End of the World
I Still Haven’t Found What I'm Looking For
Beautiful Day
Angel of Harlem
The First Time
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
Love and Peace
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullet The Blue Sky
Miss Sarajevo
Pride in the Name of Love
Where the Streets Have No Name
One
The Fly
Mysterious Ways
With or Without You
The Saints are Coming
Party Girl
Kite
Bad
We got bonus songs. The edge called us Sydney. they did a bit of Kylies Spinning around.
Kanye was interesting. Said Melbourne is his official favorite city.

Peter Garett was also on the screen as same time as Johnny when the crowd booed :p I thought there was too much political stuff too. I loved the view I had.
Interesting how Kayne said it would be at least a year before he comes back - I think he's kinda confident :p
Well when he is a megastar, super producer and whatnot, I would be confident too.

What was The Saints Are Coming like without Greeeeeen Day?

Went and saw U2 in Auckland last night, it was absolutely AMAZING. One of the best gigs I have ever been to.
The set list:
City of Blinding Lights
Vertigo
Elevation
I will Follow
New Years Day
Beautiful Day
One Tree Hill
Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own
Love and Peace
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullet the Blue Sky
Miss Sarajevo
Pride (In the Name of Love)
Where the Streets Have No Name
One
The Fly
Mysterious Ways
With Or Without You
The Saints Are Coming
Angel of Harlem
Kite
My personal faves of the night was most definitely Where the Streets Have No Name (sounded 100 times better live!) and Kite. The Saints are Coming was also pretty damn awesome too, was stoked to hear it live, even without Green Day :D
One Tree Hill was a song they wrote after a friend who lived in One Tree Hill in Auckland passed away.

im pissed that they have played 'bad' and 'all i want is you' in japan & not in sydney. they are two of my favourite songs.
