hey all
i have a cry baby that recently stopped working :(
it acts as a volume pedal now but with now wah sound....
ive read somewhere i need to replace a 4.7μF electrolytic capacitor near the Fasel inductor
firstly im not sure if this information is valid and secondly has anyone else had similar problems if so please help me!!
Also ive looked inside the pedal and seen it says 4.7uF 25v but i can only find at dick smith 4.7uF 50v and so on....does this matter? if so where can i get a 25v one in melbourne specifically?
Thanks for any help guys

try jaycar electronics www.jaycar.com.au
dicksmith are really crap with components, jaycar have shitloads of the stuff
you'll need a soldering iron and solder, that's obvious, but watch the electrolytic capacitors, because if you solder the terminals backwards they make a loud pop and produce a bit of black smoke :p

okay thanks.......... firstly how do i make sure that im doing it the wrong way and secondly how do i get the circuit board out with out breaking something?

Look at the capacitor, it will have a marking on one side usually. Like a black stripe with a "-" (negative) symbol in it, or a "+" (symbol). If it has no marking or a B.P inital, that means it is bi-polar and has no specific direction. You have to make sure these markings align with the new capacitor.
a 50v cap will work fine. The 25v marking is the rating for the maximum voltage it can handle before it goes bang. It has nothing to do with its electrical purpose in the circuit. Just don't use anything with a rating smaller than 25v.

k
it is a black thingy with a white stripe on the left and a rectangle on where the white stripe is.... i cannot see + or negative only 4.7uF 25v + CE 65degress C + 9011 + R and a 2 and a 4
which one of these can i use http://dseau.resultspage.com/search.php?sessionid=4530e19104fbf08a2741c0a87f9c0 754&site=&w=4.7uf&I1.x=0&I1.y=0&I1=Go
This is what the inside looks like http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g5/camel99_2006/14-10-06_2308.jpg

any ideas on how to remove the ciruit?

the third one down on that page looks alright, bi-polar.
if any one else agrees?
the wires on the capacitor are different lengths, the positive one is the longest wire.
if you can take the circuit board out you could probably melt the solder on the other side and pull the cap out, but there's such things as solder removal tools, but i've never used one

You've found the negative leg, Daniel.
take a look at this, the black strip has a -ve symbol in it. It might be different colours, but if it has the -ve symbol on one of the legs thats the negative leg.

The last time I checked, the circuit board is held in by the input and output jacks. Unscrew the nuts on those jacks from outside the pedal and see if the board comes free.
