12-09-2006, 11:51 PM
Yes indeed how about them.. the one we went to tonight was empty.. haha. By we I mean Bec and me. Bec says hi. Anyway, there was supposed to be 7 bands playing True Live being the headliners. The gig started 30 minutes late and then progressively got later, till they were running an hour late. The Porkers were on second last, and someone who was running the thing came out and then True Live weren't going to be playing. No-one really gave a damn and The Porkers kept playing and the crowd kept skanking.. all 25 or so of us. The gig was a bomb hahaha. Great night. We met a new TLE fan, so we had a good chat while the screaming shit bands were playing.. The guitar player from Los Capitanes had blood all down his guitar and on his shirt coz he cut his thumb.. Good times.

I don't think anyopne posted it here, it was, as Bec says, not pomoted very well. hehe.
True Live, The Porkers, Los Capitanos, Mach Pelican, Moredhel, Anarchsphere, Mason's Edge at Mooroolbark Community centre. True live didn't end up playing, and the last three on that list were screaming metal. Not my thing *shudders* But the others were really good. :D

What do you expect with gigs played in shitty suburbs? The bands they usually get don't get a massive turnout in the city, let alone when they play in a faraway suburb from a lot of people.

Grumma
05-06-2007, 10:24 PM
Grumma's band guide to Metalfest:
Synthetic Breed (www.myspace.com/synbreed)
- industrial death metal
- (obviously) use growling vocals
- can't really compare them to any other bands cos I don't know much death metal
Demonium (www.myspace.com/demoniumband)
- death metal
- they don't have any songs up but judging by their influences they'll be pretty heavy/intense
First Legion (www.myspace.com/firstlegion)
- thrashcore/ death metal/ metalcore
- black metal-esque vocals
- their guitar riffs remind me of old thrash metal like Annihilator, Testament etc
Paroxysm (www.myspace.com/paroxysmmetal)
- death metal/hardcore with some industrial sounds
- combo of high pitch black metal screams and low death grunts/growls
- kinda like Meshuggah with heavier vocals
Hiroshima Will Burn (www.myspace.com/hiroshimawillburn)
- death metal
- traditional death metal grunts
Ne Obliviscaris (www.myspace.com/neobliviscaris)
- blackened prog metal
- the higher pitched growls aka black metal vocals with some clean harmonies
- blast beats ftw, also pretty experimental
Terrorust (www.myspace.com/aussiemetal)
- death/black metal
- heavy singing on the verge of screaming (kinda like Wayne Static) along with the low death grunts
- got some grindcore stuff in there. pretty chaotic
In conclusion, if you don't like growling vocals don't bother showing up to the first stage :p
Grumma
05-06-2007, 10:45 PM
*stage 2*
Calligre (www.myspace.com/calligre)
no songs or anything like that up yet but if their genres are correct we might see some clean vocals!
Harlott (www.myspace.com/harlottmetal)
- thrash thrash and more thrash
- old skool thrash vocals kinda like early Slayer on their live stuff
- any thrash band from the 80s with like 2% modern stuff mixed in
Abrasion (www.myspace.com/abrasionaustralia)
- thrash/ death metal
- vocals are kinda inbetween growls and clean (once again like Wayne Static's)
- some catchy riffs
Decrepit Sun (www.myspace.com/decrepitsunoz)
- combo of thrash and heavy metal (pantera-ish)
- heavy, clean vocals with a tongue half-growl to them
Her Tortured Embrace (www.myspace.com/hertorturedembrace)
- progressive metalcore
- high portion of clean vocals with some metalcore screams
- easily the most listenable of all the bands thus far
Black Like Vengeance (www.myspace.com/blacklikevengeance)
- Gothenburg Death Metal/Melodic Death Metal/ Thrash Metal
- apparently it's a chick singing . . .lol ah yeah, clean vox there we go
- similar artist: At The Gates, In Flames, Arch Enemy
The Ocularis Infernum (www.myspace.com/theocularisinfernum)
- Grindcore / Death metal
- Death Growls and harsh screaming
- well all grindcore bands sound the same to me

You were obviously there when I was ... where abouts were you standing?
Near the entrance of the store.
I walked out straight after he finished and went and sat on a park bench.

Thanks. If you like Andrew McDonald's stuff today, you'll like Tiltmeter. Had a similar sound.
If you know where the freebies section is at Fist2Face, grab one of the DStar Records CDs. It's got Tiltmeter, Burn The City and Sumi tracks on it.

EV's sounds okay - I loved it last year though with the Bleeders.
Also that night is Area 7 at the Espy I think and Mammal's album launch at Evelyn. I'll probably go to Mammal.

You should all go to see Area 7...well, I'm assuming only if you're 18 plus i guess.
*kicks herself for not planning trip around the seven's gig*
They're also doing Freeza on the 21st of Sept - dunno if Prahran is 'eastie-burb' though
Ooh I might go to the freeza one, do you know who else is playing?
Nah, Prahran isn't really eastie-burb but we haven't got a thread for just general gigs around melbourne so it's close enough!
Speaking of places that aren't really eastie-burb:

But yeah, unless you're talking about gigs on the other side of melbourne, most gigs aren't that far away anyway. To catch public transport to prahran generally takes me under two hours
