My left ear
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v27/Jake4459/Meeee/IMG_0136s.jpg

My right ear just has 4 lobe piercings. I used to have them stretched to 6mm and 8mm respectively, but I got bored so put normal earrings back in. The 6mm closed up fine, 8mm is almost back to 'normal'.

I also have my tongue and both nipples (I had them done, took them out and healed up, had them redone a few weeks ago. NB did not hurt as much as you'd think through scar tissue). I also did my navel myself, but took it out.

Looking at getting tattoos next year after my birthday, starting with a southern cross on my thigh.

Mirm
09-09-2006, 01:25 PM
At various stages I've had my ears, tongue, navel, nipple, antibrow, lip and my ear cartlidge.. currently I only have my antibrow and navel. I'm thinking about maybe getting a monroe on my right side to balance out my anti brow, but unless it was perfectly in line, it would look shit.

So this is maybe a bit personal, but any girls here have stories about getting your clit pierced?
I was talking to a friend the other night and she said she has hers done, but actually through the clitoris horizontally (i'm led to believe that its more typical to get it done vertically, and not through the clitoris itself).. i was just wondering how uncommon it is to have it done *through* it.. cause it sounds like the most painful thing ever in the entire world.

Considering the few gals I know that have it done have been pretty guarded about telling even their closest friends, I'm wondering if anyone would openly admit it on the boards.

wow Skelton, that's crazy awesome. I'd never get double nipple piercings, set #1 was painful enough.

and as for clit i kinda want to get mine done but it'll be a few years away till i'm comfy enough to have my piercer poking around down there and doing his job hahaha

and i only know one girl who got hers done that told anyone about it..and she said that they had to get the other piercer to hold her down while getting it done...that scared me off it for a long time...haha and she ddn't get it done through her clit...i dont know how common or ncommon that is but fuck it would hurt so freakin bad!!!!

I'm pretty sure there are risks of completely losing sensitivity if you actually pierce the clit itself. Personally I wouldn't risk that. And yeah, it sounds hella painful anyway.

-George-
09-11-2006, 11:56 PM
...Although if you didn't lose sensitivity wouldn't it increase the sensitivity?
I dunno, fuck getting that done, I'm just curious. :p

The Dying Start
09-12-2006, 01:16 AM
I've heard stories that it has increased sensitivity....

But who knows until it gets done.

Jake
09-12-2006, 04:05 AM
It's the same for nipples, you can risk losing the sensitivity, but for the majority, it increases it, or just remains as it was.

I know somebody who has a Christina piercing done (Click if you're adult (http://static.flickr.com/49/125941229_db2f024ac9_m.jpg)) - the bit at the front. Apparently uncomfortable for a few days, but getting it done was just an average surface piercing (she has, and has had many other piercings). I'm not sure how it is now, after a few months, but I assume, as a surface piercing, it may grow out.

I imagine having your clit pierced would be pretty painful though. Perhaps clit hood or something, not actually through the clit, would be less painful (obviously, due to lower sensitivity), but still, first you've got to get your bits out, then you'll have to walk out of the piercing studio... And I wouldn't even think about riding a bike after that. Lolz.

Mirm
09-12-2006, 10:05 AM

Question mainly to Steph (if she visits here anymore?) and anyone else who has/knows - vertical lip piercings.

It comes up through where the 'visible' lip and the inner lip meet, yes? Is it uncomfortable with your teeth or anything?

Steph Format
10-17-2006, 01:18 PM
yeah mine sort of hits it between the outer/inner bottom lip, you can get it placed less in the middle though. (did that make any sense at all? I hope.)

it doesn't click against my teeth, no, but it does take a little getting used to, especially when eating anything sandwich-like. I bit down on it when eating a taco the day afterwards and damn, that hurt.

Mirm
10-17-2006, 07:43 PM
Mmm, taco.

I think I want a new piercing. Currently I've only got my anti-brow and my navel. Everyone should tell me what I should get (probably something facial, beacuse its not like im ever going to actually get a job anyway).
Here is what my face looks like:

If i get my eyebrow pierced I'll have altogether too much shit around my eyes. I was thinking maybe getting a monroe on the right side of my mouth, so it'll be diagonal from the antibrow.. but that will probably look dumb. I was also thinking about maybe copying steph and getting a vertical labret. They're hot.

Mirm, how about a medusa, in the middle of the upper lip?
I quite want that done, but the way my front 2 teeth are, the back of the bar would probably catch on them and chip them and stuff.

It happens with piercings, too. I worked in a supermarket and had two facial piercings, which I could cover with itty bitty bandaids or whatever, but when I hand out a CV to places, a lot of people look me over and then just hand my resume back to me, nevermind that I've been working since i was fifteen years old and I can wing my way through absoultely anything. fuckers.

Steph Format

yeah people are totally dicks about tattoos and piercings.

at my last job, I had to wear a crappy glass retainer in my lip. I have a vertical labret rather a standard lip ring right, so I went through three different eyebrow retainers before finding one that fit properly. it sucked.

I am so ridiculously lucky to have the job I have now, working at a coffee shop on the ASU campus. like they give a shit about 19 year olds mutilating themselves.

so it does suck pretty bad trying to find a job while having visible tatts or piercings, but at the same time it's weirdly liberating. oh no I can't work at a grocery store anymore, boo hoo.

But then the day I was going to get it done I rang work to see if they would crack the shits and they said they'd rather I didn't. And I need to stay in their good books cos I like my job.

And everyone was telling me it would look like shit. :(

Jake
11-07-2006, 07:05 AM
Whenever I am purposely out looking for a job, or attending interviews, I remove most of my ear piercings and use a clear tongue retainer. Then I can ask on their policy on piercings, and if they really need me to look so conventional, I can turn up like that for work. If they say it's ok, then I can turn up with them all in (as I can in my job now).

Obviously tattoos are slightly different. If you're going to get them on your face, neck and hands, then you may be frowned upon in some professions (like teaching) for not appearing conventional, and for the bad name associated with tattoos (biker dudes, prisoners etc). If you have them in places that wouldn't be seen, then there's really no problem.

Teen Has Breast Removed After Infection

Friday, October 27, 2006

A teenager who decided to get her breasts pierced for her 18th birthday faces reconstructive surgery after a flesh-destroying infection forced doctors to remove her left breast.

Stephanie Edington of Crawfordsville remained hospitalized Friday at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, where surgeons also removed lymph nodes and infected skin up to her collar bone.

Dr. Robert Goulet Jr., a professor at the Indiana University Cancer Center, said the piercing created an entry point for the bacteria, but the procedure likely did not cause the infection itself. Edington is diabetic, which left her susceptible to infection, he said.

Doctors diagnosed Edington, who had the piercings on Aug. 29, with necrotizing fasciitis, or gas gangrene — a rare condition that results from rapid bacteria growth and leads to tissue destruction. It is only the third documented case in the world of gas gangrene in the breast area, Goulet told The Paper of Montgomery County.

She was in critical condition by the time she arrived at the hospital Oct. 14, Goulet said.

"By the time she got here, the skin tissue was all pretty much completely dead," he said. "She was a very sick kid when she got here."

Edington is on an aggressive antibiotic regimen and has already undergone three surgeries. She faces several more, including eventual breast reconstruction.

She said she was eager to be discharged but worries about what awaits her.

"I would like to get out, but I am scared of what people are going to be thinking," she said.

Edington's mother, Pamela Osban, said her daughter's illness has shaken their entire family. She worries about her daughter's future.

"You have no idea what it's like to almost lose your daughter and then to make the decision to have one of her breasts removed," she said. "Some people say 'It's just a breast.' They aren't an 18-year old girl. It's devastating for her and for the family."

"Get her breasts pierced"?
surely they meant 'nipples'... i think i'll go and get a breast piercing tomorrow. And hopefully avoid getting a ganregnous tit.

That would seriously suck though, what happened to her. I dont have much boob to brag about, but i'm still glad i've got two of them.

wait.. is it ironic because the thread was dead for a while?
orrrrr because, um, I dont know.. you must be an idiot or something.

i'm and idiot because you dont understand my humor?

As a wild stab in the dark, is it ironic because Skeletons dont have skin? You generally don't pierce bones...?

yeah, well besically you dont usually associate body modifications with skeletons

Mirm
11-07-2006, 09:19 PM
But its not "skeleton" at all. Its Skelton. Its her last name or something.
So, yes, you are an idiot, because thats not humour, its a mistake,

Jake
11-08-2006, 08:48 AM
By the fact that it's a flesh-degenerating thingy, you'd think it would be visible or at least felt something not quite right. I know that at the first sign of something wrong with any my piercings, I went to see the piercer and the doc to make sure it was ok. It's pretty rare that something as major as that happens..but when it does, it can be devastating.

I'm still not sure what to get done. At the moment it's going between nostril and labret. Anti-eyebrow is so pretty, but I really want something that's going to reject..or have a good risk of rejection. That's also why I'm not sure about bridge. Argh.

I think it depends on the person - I've seen some people that have had it for years and not changed. Other people have it and rejects in a matter of months. Knowing my luck, I'd be in the latter category, so I'll stick with something else for now.

So this is maybe a bit personal, but any girls here have stories about getting your clit pierced?
I was talking to a friend the other night and she said she has hers done, but actually through the clitoris horizontally (i'm led to believe that its more typical to get it done vertically, and not through the clitoris itself).. i was just wondering how uncommon it is to have it done *through* it.. cause it sounds like the most painful thing ever in the entire world.

i met this chick at a party who was telling me she got her clit hood pierced very open about it. anyway she said it didnt hurt but if you rub it in the right way it can get you off really easily

One of the guys at the local tattoo parlour (and he happens to live down the street from me) said he had something like 20 or so piercings in his dick (and probably sack). He also said there was more, but some got ripped out during a headjob one time. Or something.
I hope he was lying.

Jake

that could have included beading, which makes 20 a little more believable..

Bec
01-10-2007, 02:04 PM
Is it just me or does beading look a bit like some sort of warts? Whatever floats your boat I guess!

I'm thinking of getting an anti-brow piercing done, if they'll allow me once I finally get a job, so I was reading up about it and saw a lot of stuff about the piercings being rejected. I know a few people here have got anti-brow piercings done, have any of you had trouble with it rejecting or know anyone who has?

punkface!
01-10-2007, 03:09 PM
I used to have them done and one of them started to migrate.
It just gets a little red and irritated.
I think if you look after it once it starts to show signs of rejection/migration, then it can heal up. But, I dunno. All surface peircings will migrate eventually.
I think I'm getting to that point in my life, where I just think "what's the freaking point?"

Streching gives me the heebies anyway. I don't understand why people like it. I reckn it's pretty rank.

The second smallest size (8mm or whatever) I could do, but any bigger than that and it becomes a nuisance

Does anyone know if the weather can have an affect on your piercings??

Because.. my piercings gone a bit red and sore the past few days, and I was thinking maybe its from the stinking hot humid weather..

Just wondering.
Might go to the piercers and get it checked out.

Steel expands, so indeed it does. Yet another reason I think having piercings is stupid!

Mirm

her piercing isnt steel, the bar is made of plastic. And the weather wouldnt be hot enough to make steel expand enough to inflame a piercing.

George, my piercing does that sometimes too. I tend to just put some peroxide or salt water or mouthwash on it every now and then, because its very sensitive.
its on the surface of your skin and constantly exposed to the elements. If it wasnt properly healed or had a little tear in it then the hot and humid weather would be ideal conditions for infection to breed. get something on it, just in case.

one time, razz's kid grabbed at it and pulled it a bit, and it hurt, then a few days later i had a little infection in it. It was red and swollen, but peroxide took care of it.

If you sweat a bit in the warmer weather it could cause a bit of irritation too. I dunno if you can get it over there, but Savlon wound wash spray is great for cleaning for piercings.

Also, this is my friend doing his 3rd suspension yesterday - by his forearms. Not for the faint-hearted (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1VoI0apNnQ)

It doesnt rub constantly. Its through the skin, and sits there without moving at all.
I've had piercings all over my body and none of them rub the skin in a manner than irritates it.
My skin would get more irritated wearing a woolen scarf.

But a scarf is a temporary item, a piercing is semi-permanent. You even said yourself that you've had infections, so obvoiusly your piercing has rubbed against the skin. Whether it was from sweat, clothes rubbing against the piercing, someone pulling on the piercing. Skin wasn't designed to have foreign objects inserted into it. But alas, in the name of fashion!

Steph Format

yes, your body is automatically wary of foreign objects. but if you take good care of your piercings, then your body can - and will - adapt. the human body is pretty versatile. some placements are just a little harder to fully heal than others, is all.

I'm sorry, but "hurr you just want to be trendy" type digs really get on my nerves. tattoos and piercings aren't exactly a new concept in human history.

if someone wants to accept the responsibility involved with any sort of modification, then more power to 'em.

Yeah, fair enough point. Each to their own really. I guess humans are completely illogical, irrational & emotional beings so it makes sense we do stupid things for such reasons as fashion.

Bec
01-30-2007, 06:38 PM
It's not necesairily fashion. Sure it may be for some people but I'm pretty sure most people get piercings because they personally like the way it looks or makes them feel, not because it's the fashion.

It doesnt get infected by rubbing against my skin. It doesnt move unless I poke it.
Same with my navel, and with any other piercing I ever had (which were tongue, lip, nipple and ears).
You dont get an infection from having a piercing rub against your skin, because ther dont rub against the skin. Infection comes when the piercing isnt healed properly, or isnt cared for, or gets torn or you have an allergy or something. If piercings rubbed against the skin and actually gave you an irritation from this rubbing, i wouldn't get it done. If it did rub against the skin, we'd all have calloused ears, lips, noses, navels and nipples.
Stop talking about things you know nothing about.

I guess in the way that any item of clothing or accesory you wear can be classified as fashion, yes it does, but what I meant is a lot of people don't do it just because it's in fashion

I'd say a small minority don't, a large percentage would. That's how the whole Emo fashion trend started (with a minority). Although every person I've met these days who dresses that way is "being individual"....we won't go there tho, that's another discussion altogether. Whatever makes people happy, that's all the matters at the end of the day :)

Where the hell did you pull the emo arguement from?

Also, incase you hadn't noticed, body piercings and body mods are an ancient/prehistoric thing that humans do. Emo has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING. And maybe someone who is dressing 'emo' IS being an individual. Has that ever occured to anyone, that these people dress like that because they WANT to and that's just what they wear, regardless that others dress the same? Another question, do you ever shut up?

Well it's amazing what a little research into human history can easily uncover. The South Americans altered the skull shapes of their children (as baby skulls are malleable), Pacific island inhabitants had a ritual called the 'crocodile man' in which they would raise the skin of a nominated male by slitting the skin and putting stuff inside. And the lip discs, and don't forget the girls who wearing gold rings around their necks to enlargen them. And not to mention the countless tattoos and piercings of people from around the world.

And I'm assuming you love shit stirring, it's just a shame you can't seem to back up most of what you say.

So you were there? It's all good typing something in google...
And based on that logic piercings and tats are all good then, cos heck, we've been doing it for centuries. In fact, we've also consumed alcohol and drugs for many many years and they're fine too. Yup!
So logically what you're trying to tell me is that because those before us have done something, that makes it perfectly okay and won't impact our health or wellbeing? hmm.

Excuse me but I found this out by reading numerous books and watching documentaries. My information is most certainly not internet material.

I think it's a bit stupid to compare this to alcohol and drugs. You're really stabbing in the dark here, although people might use drugs and body mods for a similar reason (to feel different or better about themselves) it seems like a completely non-related arguement. And, look what I just said there, people get them done to feel better about themselves, rather than to follow a fashion.

And maybe because we've been doing it throughout our history has meaning to it and perhaps the body, as someone suggested, could adapt to it easily. I never said it won't impact on someone's wellbeing, but carefully putting a piece of jewellery into the body, if you take care of it it will be fine. Like anything with your body, natural or foreign.

You were trying to say that piercings and tats are okay because we've been doing it for generations, I was merely pointing out that we've been doing many other things for generations which are clearly not okay or have negative effects on the human body.

Just because the subject matter is different doesn't mean it's irrelevant in the context of the discussion.

Nobody here is "going off their tree" because you disagree with the majority, people are responding to you because youre an idiot. You're trying to run with your intellectual thing again, and its just not working.

Every trend starts with a minority and ends with the masses. Who cares what part of the trend someone is involved in, I just find it funny eeeeveryone always tries to act as tho they weren't swayed by people around them.

Mirm, opinions are opinions. Deal with it. Obviously someone decked out in piercings is gonna try and justify their reasoning just as someone who doesn't choose to dress that way will justify theirs. The real ironic thing these days is people like me who choose not to go with all these fads are more individual for not doing it than those who do.

Steph Format

you're the only one who seems to be hung up on being an "individual" Strider.

I mean sure, I do know people with piercings and tattoos and stuff, but it's not something you go into lightly. you've got to pony up the cash, as well as let someone come at you with a needle. it's not exactly buying a pair of ugg boots here.

and um, piercings don't have a negative effect on the human body unless you don't take care of it. it's like any other skin wound.

Bec
01-31-2007, 11:39 AM
Of course people are swayed by others around them, but most people I know wouldn't stick a piece of metal through their body purely because lots of other people have one.

Just so you know, I'm not trying to justify my own reasons for having piercings I don't have any myself but I'm not going on about how I'm so individual for it. I think it's stupid to not do something just to be individual. I mean if you actually don't want piercings, that's fine, but not getting a piercing simply for the reason of so many other people having one is no better than getting one just because other people have one. I'm not saying that's what you're doing, because you seem to be pretty against piercings in general, but by the amount you're going on about individiuality and constantly taking the minority side in arguments it seems like that's playing a big factor in your life.

damo0945
01-31-2007, 12:32 PM
people get piercings because they like the way they look with them or the way they make them feel, not just because someone else has them, though that may play some part.
For an example: I wear my bodyjar T-shirt proudly even though probably a majority of my friends have never heard of them, i just like it.
And also on the drugs thing, humans havent been into all drugs since ancient times, a fair amount of illicit drugs have really only been invented in the last century or two (not really sure when) as they are synthetic.
God i hope that made sense!

Okay, well as much as I personally dislike the idea of piercings and tats I recognise there are far worse things in the world one can do to themselves with greater risks associated alongside. So for that I will apologise. I don't have any right to be criticising people for their personal choices in life (especially since it's inside a post which is discussion of the subject). I guess sometimes I just like creating debatable discussion when I'm bored...

Some of you might find this story interesting. I heard it on Triple J this afternoon.

It's human nature to want to be individual. Standing out from the masses, finding a mate, continuing your genes - at least that's how Darwin would argue it. Piercings are becoming a lot more socially acceptable, tattoos too, but the way you do it and how it looks on you will be different to the next person and the next person. Put 2 people with their ear lobes pierced next to each other and it'll look different. Different shaped ears, different earrings, different place pierced on the ear lobe.

The friend in the video I posted a couple pages back, the forearm suspension, he's done 2 others by the back and is going to start looking at doing one from his knees (upside down) soon. It's pretty fascinating just how much the body can stand, and I wouldn't dismiss the idea entirely. Apparently it's a really chilled out experience, almost spiritual sometimes because you can realise what you're capable of.
