it would be awesome if people who knew about jazz put anything they know about it on here. mostly to do with instrumentally but anything goes. i think its awesome and maybe if someone put some tabs of jazz scales or what ever.

How far has your theory gone? Its probably easier to say where to start because jazz isn't confined to specific scales, quite the opposite...

yeahhh i understand lol

but i dont know. chris always uses "extended" scales and all that "jazz" :p

like what is closing in bassed around?

Closing in sounds very precomposed, like a few of their solo's on the self titled album. It sounds like its mostly in Dminor, except for a little bit in the middle where he is arpeggiating the min add2 chords (minor triad plus a 2nd) Gmin(add2) / F#min(add2) / Amin(add2) / Bbmin(add2) which seem to fit nicely into G whole diminished. The rest seems more like he is "faking" it by using the common jazz adage of not playing more than 5 notes in one direction except for a few double octave runs. Following this helps create those winding runs. He also simply repeats runs while rising and falling whole or half steps.

I've only listened to it briefly, there could be more to it (substitutions leading to chromatism, etc) but from what im hearing closing in isn't specifically jazz, but rather jazz influenced. Sounds cool none the less, and i'd be happy to be proven wrong.

As far as extended scales, thats not so much the case in Jazz. Its more along the lines of following chord tones and anticipating the chords that are coming next, then using these tones as a reference for choosing what scales or intervals to use or modulate through. It sounds complicated because it is, thats why people spend a life time learning to master it.

I've been studying Jazz for the past 2 years, learn your scales and arpeggios and go from there. He is a Jazzy Blues Progression:

F7 / Bb7 / F7/ Cmin7 F7 /
Bb7 / Bbmin7 Eb7/ F7 / D7b9 /
Gmin7 / C7 / F7 D7/ Gmin7 C7 //
