need help: are .avi files movies or just audio, because the stuff i down loaded from bdo 03 in .avi is just audio

Do a google search for the K-lite codec pack. It has every codec you could need. Codec stands for coder decoder, and they help "translate" the video into a "language" that your computer can play.

I've started copying stuff and hit one major snag - The Detour Mackay videos are stuffed. I know the video quality is rooted anyway, but i was hoping to rip the audio, however on both "sections" the second song won't record. My DVD Recorder says "This cannot be copied" despite it playing fine on my VCR. Seems like a copyright or something issue, which may have been caused by the bad tapes. I have no idea! I'm trying to find a solution though. The upside is that "Jam" recorded fine, and all other videos have copied fine so far. Only Townsville to go, i think.

The problem with the videos originally where that my mum taped them with the Austar volume either really loud or low and it just hissed all the way through. All vids are really crappy quality. Unfortunately they all play better on the VCR that originally recorded them, but that has since kicked the bucket :(

You all better love Jam Sandwich and Making of Roll On (AKA: Al Capone), cos they're the rarest vids I've got and you should thank your lucky stars I'm sharing them with you :p

I'd say professionally done because the audio is straight from the video. Its not top notch or anything, but still pretty good. But if you don't like the quality, the standard of songs sure does make up for it! (Lots of Roll On goodies!)

In my opinion, the quality is better than the recording the Oct 12th Sydney gig that we've got :)

yeah. i recorded black cat and so lonely also that night, Martin's picture quality was better than mine, although i still had my old camera back then so my audio was slightly better...still both not fantastic however :rolleyes:

Spot's a good fellow. I live in the states, and he's one of the most passionate TLE fans that I personally know, outside of my small group of local friends. We've met up and hung out at pretty much every TLE show in the New York area. I'm only saying this to express the fact that he, like most of the people on this board, is a dedicated fan who is familiar with tons of TLE stuff, stretching into the back catalogue, something a lot of fans are not...he has things like these rarely seen video clips that alot of people haven't seen or are entirely unaware of, and he wants to share them with as many people as possible so that they might enjoy them/get further into an amazing band. It seems preposterous to me to suggest that he was posting the clips on youtube to steal some imaginary internet "honor"....do people really need to pat themselves on the back for posting something? Are there prizes given out? To upload something, you have to do it in your youtube login, no? Especially since it's not like the clips were filmed by someone on the board and he pretended like he was the one who shot them...that would be quite different. I suppose I could see where a "hey, my bad" might be in order...but not after someone has viciously called you a "thieving little fucker" without provocation. Overkill, no? But it does seem like messageboard culture is almost like mafia culture, and so because Spot rarely posts in this section of the board, I don't imagine anyone will get behind him. It's too bad.

Unfortunately you have missed alot of what goes on around here. The people not blessed with musical ability have formed something of a community where we share things and seem to get on rather well. Through this community we get to know people and their mannerisms, quirks and personalities.

I have no qualms with people distributing the videos i rip for this community. I would encourage people to post links elsewhere, or better yet, post links to these forums in a bid to encourage more members. I must admit to having a slight issue with Youtube, but that would generally be with the fact that the videos that are posted there do no justice to their subjects with their extremely low quality. Who wouldn't rather a link to a reasonable quality rip?

Sorry about my vagueness. I first thought that I would test it by inserting a link from you tube into the video downloader. That didn’t work, as in nothing was happening, so I thought I would try and get some clips from the Bizarre ’99 gig. I clicked on the clips I wanted, like Monday, which took me to mega upload, then I called my brother for help but he was useless, so I am referring to your guys. The instructions I followed were the thread starters. That’s about it, cheers.

What exactly about MegaUpload did you not understand?

Did you put the three letter pass in and click download? Or did you not get that far?

If you got past that bit, you then wait for 45 seconds or so and there will be another download button at the bottom of the list. This one will start the video downloading to you computer.

Unfortunately you have missed alot of what goes on around here. The people not blessed with musical ability have formed something of a community where we share things and seem to get on rather well. Through this community we get to know people and their mannerisms, quirks and personalities.

it has nothing to do with getting along with talent non-musos, it's just that i can't be bothered forming artificial friendships with people i've never met/will meet in person and learning their quirks, mannerism, likes/dislikes, etc. sorry if that makes me an elitest or whatever, i just prefer to meet and have friends i can actually hang out with and joke with in person, not over a message board. call me old fashioned, if you will.

thanks a lot carrymehomestead. it's always cool meeting other fans that appreciate TLE and music in general without crossing the boundary of obsession and "die-hard" fandomness. the reason why i probably went "over the top" was exactly for what he said; the mafia-type associations with people who frequent message boards, have hundreds or thousands of posts, and have a sign up date older than other - they automatically feel a sense of grandeur and they're better than "noobs" who have just signed on or have just recently discovered the band.

i've been a member in these forums for several years (although my post # don't reflect it, neither does my sign up date since i've been here long enough to see the forums crash and reset everything several times), but i don't go whinging about idiotic shit cus my ego has been deflated.

i do apologize if i did go over the top or if my response was immature, but i really can't stand people like you who act like the world owes them something or they're much more of a fan that other people because of reasons x, y, & z. sorry. i've been here long enough to know your personality and the cliques that form around here enough to avoid them. your quoted one sentence was a reaffirmance of your behavior in the past and completely justified my response. all you'll get from me is a "thanks for ripping the videos and sharing." that's it. nothing more, nothing less.

Overall though, now knowing that spot has been a member of several forums now and knows Glenns ways of communicating and getting his point acrosss, there was no need for his comment to be taken out of proportion. In saying that it would have been nice if the videos could have been credited with Glenns name and a link back to the forums.
