Nostalgia at it's tackiest. I know we already have a TV Nostalgia thread, but here I'm talking NO TV, but everyday items like clothing and games and toys and marital aides that have dropped off the edge of the earth somewhere. Try to keep it informative and constructive, or offer a genuine reply.

Whatever Happened To...
Feather Dusters?

Last Seen In The Wild:
Circa 1989

Natural Habitat:
Your Laundry or perhaps under the sink.

Photographic Evidence:
http://www.costumesinc.com/Costumes/images/medium/58543-std.jpg

Notes:
I remember as a kid having one of these in the Lundry. It had bright blue feathers, and i like to play with it because the feathers felt so soft. At some point during my childhood it just disappeared. Maybe to my parents boudoir, but that bares not thinking about. Does anyone still own one? Does anyone remember having one in the house?

Kacky

I think we still do have one, it doesn't get used very often though.

Liz

We still have a feather duster. It looks almost exactly like that one too...

The Dying Start
01-05-2007, 05:19 PM
That's fantastic! I wonder if you can buy them at all?

Kacky
01-05-2007, 05:19 PM
You can, I believe.

They're a dollar store item!

Lowee
01-05-2007, 05:21 PM
Well, you can buy them online:
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=%22feather+duster%22&btnG=Search+Froogle

My nan had a feather duster, and is now dead. This leads me to conclude they are ultimately fatal.

Neryssah

We have feather dusters.
I think my mum must collect them or something, they're all over the bloody house.

Yeah, we still have one... somewhere.

I imagine feather dusters, and slap bracelets for that matter, are quite at home in kinky brothels.

Liz
01-05-2007, 05:41 PM

I have the intro to that as my MSG tone at the moment, just to irritate my mother.

I have a purple Gameboy somewhere. The only games we have a Pokemon blue and red and I'm so over them. I want tetris and Mario, but I don't know if you can still buy games for them any more. Can you?

Grumma
01-05-2007, 09:19 PM
Second hand game stores would be your best bet

Ally
01-05-2007, 09:22 PM
I have absolutely no idea where one of those would be. The only game shop I know is the one at Knox, I don't even know what it's called.

Maybe I'll try ebay.

Grumma
01-05-2007, 09:23 PM
Eastland has like 3 lol.

Games Mania, EB games .. . theres a few

Bec
01-05-2007, 09:26 PM
Heh, all the cool kids have purple gameboys.
You could probably find some on ebay or something Ally, and EB games have a section with second hand games.

Edit: Way too slow, ah well

Ally
01-05-2007, 09:34 PM
I found the games I want, they're pretty cheap. I just have to find my gameboy before I bid on them, just in case someone threw it out or something.

We use these *all* the time at work - our store manager is a stickler for it.

Aside from that, we had one that lived in the pantry and the stick was made of wood and curved at the end like an umbrella. I mostly attacked our cat with it.

I still have my blue game boy color, me and my friends were playing pokemon to pass the time on the bus to our school ski trip (no, i don't go to an expensive private school), but we quit like halfway there coz we were getting picked on too much.

Essentially a bowl cut, but with longer hair on top, and the sides cut under the top layers of hair. Usually parted in the centre so the long sides framed the face. I don't understand why these were so "cool" but then you look back at 90% of historical fashion trends and wonder whether they had some unique drugs in the water making utter shite look passable.

haha, most of this stuff can all be found at Big W Norky,

*bumbags - our unfortunate 15 year old recovery associates have to wear them every shift (and we sell them too, so you can take them home and be like a big w worker!)

*the undercut is a favourite at our store with the customers - either that or the mullet or the pulled back in a super-tight pony tail ontop of the head for the chicks

*push pops - i saw a box of them the other day and i'm sure it was at work! "don't push me push a push pop"

And Glenn I have that exact feather duster - and i even use it! You can buy a hot pink feather duster from your local Woolies - if you can't see one you should ask the store manager to order some in!!

I suppose I always covered all the bases, so there was always something "good in there" but half of the tapes inlude Crowded House and stuff like that. Good stuff that used to be on the adult stations growing up. I'll probably throw them out in a week when i move though. I also have alot of cassettes bought from Brashs and CC Music. Cold Chisel, KC and The Sunshine Band, The Tin Lids, John Williamson.

i remember goosebumps and choose your own advernture books. the big ones when i was a kid in primary school were Point books. Years til you can go to overage TLE gigs = 3
Years til I can do the same = oh wait . .. I already can :p

Except Grumma doesn't deserve to go to a future TLE gig and possibly won't, seeing as he knows about a total of 15 TLE songs and doesn't actually like them all that much. Why is he even on the forum? Basically, Grumma = GAYLORD.

Anyway, I know Glenn's first post said to be serious, but fuck that. I'm pissed off. So here's mine:

Whatever happened to Fay Wray? That delicate, satin-draped frame.

I can't remember the names of these things and have been googling them for the last half an hour. THere's that toy where it's like, half a ball, and you flip them inside out, put it on the ground and it'd fly up into the air when it re-inverted itself. It really hurt when you put it on someone's head.

And there's that other toy where it's a doll with crazy hair, and when you shake it, it's head jerks back and forth and makes a weird noise because the head is hollowed out. I think the sound goes something like, "Aiye, aiye"

Beyblades, I seriously didn't understand the fad. I was around 14 at the time and I was trying to persuade 16 year old kids that they are the dumbest thing ever. I remember those kids dishing out 10-20 bucks for an "attack ring" and I remember going down to Westfields Shopping Centre and saw the "State Beyblades competition" and all they do is just release it and stare at the middle. Sorry if I offended anyone.
