triple j has just been told that Tim Rogers, Chris Cheney, Phil Jamieson and Josh Pyke are working on a special collaboration project.
It's a series of concerts where The Beatles' White Album will be played from start to finish.
The shows will be at fairly big concert halls around the country through August.
More details about the shows will be released in coming weeks.
Sounds pretty sweet. Thoughts? Wonder why the White Album though, out of all the Beatles albums... wonder how they'll pull off Revolution 9, live!
[EDIT: To be honest it sounds EPIC - my dad's a huge Beatles fan and will definitely want to see this.]

I'm definately going, I love 3 of the 4 artists involved and I quite like the beatles too and i'd assume this would be a fairly long gig.
I would hate to see Belinda's reaction to this! :p

One of my friends is absolutely in LOVE with the Beatles right now. She's forcing me upon them, so I wouldn't mind seeing how this goes!

Yeah, it'd be pretty epic - given that the White Album is about 90 minutes long.

Yeah I know, my post was based on if they really do play the ENTIRE album!
I couldn't see them playing 90 minutes straight unless it was split into two halves or something.

i really like seeing him play anything on his guitar.. but when its not something i'm used to hearing from him, its even cooler. does no1 agree?

you should have been there at the earth hour concert.
During soundcheck a few hours before the show,he went on stage and started fiddling with the guitar and did some insane country/rockabilly finger picking stuff.
I got the White Album just a few months ago. Helter Skelter should sound pretty awesome!

hmm, I've never heard the album (don't listen to the beatles) but chris is involved and his my favourite guitarist. If i somehow end up listening to the album I might consider going. but helter Skelter! Motley Crue play it and it's a great song!
This would be awesome.
But in all seriousness, more TLE & You Am I stuff plz. That was the highlight of the 2003 BDO in Melbourne. You Am I + Cheney = Major Win.

Holy shit...so I guess that "Revolution" performance on the footy was a teaser?? I for one am amped that they picked the white album, as it's probably my favorite Beatles record...it's the album that got me into the band, since I was raised on the punk idea that the beatles were just lightweight pop bastards, so hearing all that noise and craziness and experimentation was a fuckin' eye opener...
Just picture Chris shredding on "Helter Skelter"....*drools*
Edit: I'm not Australian, so forgive me, but....who the hell are these other guys?
paulvroc
05-04-2009, 12:54 PM
hmm
so just thinking about the line-up
Chris Cheney - Guitar/Vocals (i'll be damned if they try him on bass :@)
Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon) - Guitar/Vocals
Tim Rogers (You Am I) - Guitar/Vocals
Josh Pyke (Solo) - Not too sure...but would he be Rhythm mainly?
who's playing bass, and who's on drums?
mattheal
05-04-2009, 01:01 PM
i think they would do it wrights style, and have each of them do lead vocals on different songs. and have a random backing band

i totally agree, i just love seeing any of them do anything. especially tle stuff but other stuff is cool. the wrights, etc are all cool to see. also i enjoy seeing the covers they do. like on cold chisel tribute album, the easybeats tribute and hoodoo gurus tribute. very cool stuff.

anyway back on topic kinda, them doing metallicas 'black album' would be way better than doing the white album. Or they could fuse the two into a 'grey album', although i guess beatallica have kinda done that.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the The Beatles’ seminal White Album, four Aussie rock greats will band together for special shows in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
Josh Pyke, Tim Rogers, The Living End’s Chris Cheney and Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson will be joined by a 17-piece band to pay tribute to the Fab Four’s hits. FasterLouder is proud to present these one-off shows.
As the press spiel promises: ” The White Album songs will be performed in track order, starting with Back in the USSR and closing with Good Night, with state of the art sound.”
The Beatles White Album 40th Anniversary Concert series comes to these venues in August, presented by FasterLouder. Tickets on sale Friday 22 May.
Tuesday 4 August – Hamer Hall, Melbourne

Nah the past few years, TLE have overtaken Grinspoon. 2 Platnium albums in a row, with a few top 10 singles. An aria. Grinners havent really done much since they brought out hard act to follow more than 4 years ago. I still like 'em though :)

We share this news fith our friend Vadim from Mad Heads, showed a newspaper scan to him. He was excited and wished to be a part of such project too, because he also was The Beatles fan. But then we just loughed about how silly it could be if some musicians in ukraine wanted to do such program to play. So we and him really waiting for DVD or TV video. It will be very interesting.

*GASP!*
Fair enough you don't like them but OVERATED?!?!
They changed the way we write songs. They moved from the 3 chord trick and used chords that hardly anybody knew about at the time (even made some new ones!) and brought the new chords into mainstream music e.g. Augmented, suspended, diminished etc. They have a huge musical knowledge and to say that they're overated is blasphemy.

My opinion.

Can't stand them.
In my opinion they are the greatest band of all time by a looong way, and John Lennon is pretty much my favourite human being of all time. I went to Abbey road last year and it was awesome :D.
I agree with Craigels, I don't think they can be considered overated by any means, they were pretty much the most innovative band ever. They redefined genres with pretty much every album they released. It's fair enough to look back now and be like "oh they're not that great", but at the time they were musical pioneers.

Awesome!, i was trying to go through the album and pick who would be singing what. and the only real ones i could come up with where
Chris doing helter skelter, and maybe doing the solo in while my guitar gently weeps
Josh Pyke doing Blackbird
thats all the really definite ones i could think of, the rest of the songs all fit into 3 out of 4's styles so it makes it hard to guess

Expect it to become a bidding war. It'll either go to his creditors to clear his debt, or be sold to the highest bidder and then that money'll be used in clearing his debt. Sony ATV have half, don't they? They'll likely go after Jackson's half verrrrrrrrrrrrry quickly.

07-14-2009, 01:42 AM
um i always thought jacko had them all except one. but i could be wrong
EDIT: nope i was wrong
from wikipedia
In 1985, after a short period in which the parent company was owned by Australian business magnate Robert Holmes à Court, ATV Music was sold to Michael Jackson for a reported $47 million[118] (trumping a joint bid by McCartney and Yoko Ono), including the publishing rights to over 200 songs composed by Lennon and McCartney.
In 1995, Jackson and Sony merged its music publishing businesses.[118]
Since then Jackson and Sony jointly owned most of the Lennon-McCartney songs recorded by The Beatles. Meanwhile, Lennon's estate and McCartney still receive their respective songwriter shares of the royalties. Despite his ownership of most of the Lennon-McCartney publishing, Jackson only recorded one Lennon-McCartney composition himself, "Come Together" which was featured in his film Moonwalker and HIStory album.
Although the Jackson-Sony catalogue includes most of The Beatles' greatest hits, four of their earliest songs had been published by one of EMI's publishing companies prior to Lennon and McCartney signing with Dick James – and McCartney later succeeded in personally acquiring the publishing rights to "Love Me Do", "Please Please Me", "P.S. I Love You" and "Ask Me Why" from EMI.
