I dug out the One Said single today cos I somehow (re)remembered that the single version (as well as what would you do) is a completely different version than what made it toModern Artillery. And I remembered how upset a whole bunch of people got about the lack of Andy's drum fills in the middle bit.

Those are fucking awesome drum fills!!!!!

....That's it.

Did they change tempo or something too? I seem to remember Chris saying it wasn't fast enough originally or something. But i was definately one of those who lamented the lack of awesome fills in the re-hash!

I like the structure of the Modern Artillery version but i like the SOUND of the FHOI version.
On FHOI,it sounds much more energetic and raw :D

oooh cool
just got it off itunes
yes, theres a tempo change, and the production and recording quality is way, way better
especially the drums...i mean the fills are good, but their actual sound was terrible on the first recording
i prefer the faster tempo

Chris has said himself that he wasn't happy with the production on the MA album, that it "wasn't what he heard in his head", the result of a failed experiment to try and use a hot-shit American producer. I still love MA (in the right mood), but I defnitely think the over-slickness bogs down a lot of otherwise breezy, hooky songs...One Said (single version) being one of the few actual examples we have to listen to, and see of what the album MIGHT have sounded like without...TROMBINO!!! Maybe demos will come out on that mythical TLE box set yeaars later....

Amen to all of that.

I used my skills to find the version y'all are talking about :ninja:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4rlNBQlV8g

No thanks are necissary

Also, is it me, or does Chris' voice seem a little on the whiney side? It just seems a little more closed and strained than normal

Anyways, I do like this version. However, I like the album version more

;)

It is a bit a of a different style for Chris, but man, what a comeback single...I know there are other old school fans that remember when it was the car crash...then Travis leaving??!!...then a nail-biting period of obscurity and anticipation and then BAM!! One Said sounds like a fully regrouped band, its more power pop than anything they did before, but it was right to the fucking point of the living end in...what is it, 2 minutes and change??

(technically What Would You Do? went to radio first, but I don't really count that)
