i'm almost certain this has been done before
and many of us might be completely sick over 'which album is the best one' debate

but if it has been done before, i'd like to revisit this question and really see how people rate the releases of the band, as i've been thinking about it a lot lately...

for me, the Self-Titled still takes the cake because it was the first album, has all the classic songs, a consistent sound, and a ridiculous instrumental.
second for me is either Roll On or SOE...i can't decide, perhaps the latter
with White Noise and Modern Artillery bringing up the rear of the albums
then, i'd say It's For Your Own Good because all the songs are sweet
and Hellbound over Rarities...which i included purely for shits.

so yeah, even if you're sick of this stuff, just chuck us a vote :)
and if you're not sick of it, give some reasons too!

Sorry, had to.

Right now I'm for Rarities. It's a nice change, just needs to be produced a little bit more.
But overall, probably Roll On or White Noise. They'ge got strong songs.

haha, nice man...respect for the picture
Rarities...really? interesting...
i won't judge though
i feel Roll On is a bit too over the top and crazy, sometimes it seems a bit too much...and White Noise is only 11 tracks, and two of those tracks are the title track and 21st Century...so i don't see it as strong as the other 3

The Living End because it was one of my first albums and I don't think you can beat it with all the classics on there

st is by FAR the best. No filler, all thriller. New stuff has been very "hit and miss", imo...

I'm going to be different and say White Noise, couple of weeks ago it would have been MA.
but really white noise is one of the only albums i can listen to all the way through without skipping or getting bored of any tracks.

and thats still the same almost a year after it was released

i'll never skip it, but i feel 21st Century is so far behind everything else on the album...
i don't get that with SOE or the self-titled...

really? 21st is one of my faves on the album!

and i dont dislike any of the the tracks at all, which is strange because there are niggly tracks on all the others for me

Modern Artillery is my fav.

paulvroc

i really gotta say, i'm finding the support for MA weird at the very least
the whole...overproduced factor...the band disliking the recording of the album, the weak songs being really...really weak (What Would You Do *shudders*), and the fact that they sound more like an american pop punk band than the living end would mean nobody could put it above SOE or the self titled

State Of Emergency was an awesome record IMO, the only thing they should have taken off the record i think is into the red, seemed really outta place on the album. It left too much of an opening at the end of the album. Best sound overall too, production wise.

god i loved the production...
to me it sounded more energetic and raw than any of their other albums
really made it sound like they were playing live, especially the vocals
i think its my outright second favourite

I actually think it's produced better than SoE... It sounds a lot louder and fuller - more like TLE... I dunno why they don't like it to be honest, it sounds good (even though it wasn't tracked live), and I reckon the songs are all pretty strong, haven't listened to it in a while though.

Well Rarities was pretty versatile I reckon. On top of that, I'm going through a Jam phase so New Trend sucked me in big time lol. Just nice, simple stuff. Back to basics, that was good.
Modern ARTillery was the most over the top, and Roll On and White Noise were pretty tied. s/t's basically perfect, but yeah you get over it after a while. SOE was kinda a letdown in the long-term. Roll On was their attempt at the Clash though, so that was pretty goood. London Calling ftw.

I picked Roll On - so heavy and reckless, but it's hard to let SOE come second - was my first TLE album and tour, etc.

SOE was the first album i listened to in full...so it holds a really special place for me, as well as the production and song quality, etc.
but i do love Roll On. the recklessness, the expression of talent, the pub rock sound, the hard rock sound, the Clash and British punk sound.
i've listened to London Calling about 10 times in the past week...so we're on the same level ;)

The Living End, although I was tempted to go with IFYOG!

I voted for Self Titled. It is one of only a few albums where I can continuously listen to it from start to finish and never get sick of it. Usually with an album for me, there's always one song which I have to skip because it just bores me or there's something about it that annoys me, but I can safely say with S/T there is none of that! Plus it has All Torn Down in it and I think it's obvious that I love that song :).

Self Titled still going strong for me after 10 years

paulvroc

the poll is almost reflecting my own ranking...which is interesting
Self-Titled is my favourite album of all time
if i could only listen to one disc for the rest of my life, it would have to be that
...narrowly over Ten (Pearl Jam) and In Your Honor (Foo Fighters)

Self Titled. How can you go past the classics plus under rated masterpiece's like Closing In and Sleep On it.

The Dying Start

Indeed. That album is a monster that eats alot of other albums for breakfast.

I reckon it'd choke on Roll On, and have to cut it up into smaller pieces so it could swallow it.

Self-titled is my favourite. Close second is maybe Roll On and Modern ARTillery. Every album has it's moments and none of them is bad (obviously :D).

You have no idea how long it took me to work out what 'RUFTA' stood for :p

I don't have my ipod with me and i'm not on my computer, so i couldn't check.

My TLE drive must be faulty, cos I cant figure it out.
Can't even remember what tracks are on MA anymore.
And a few weeks back, it occured to me that I couldn't remember the opening line from POS. Took me two weeks before it came to me.

Rising Up From The Ashes!

And re: the not remembering lyrics - I get like that. I've had people ask "what's that TLE song that starts off with (insert lyric)??" and I'll have no idea :p

It's okay. '02 or '03, when I asked Chris if he'd play So Lonely, he agreed, but we had to work out the lyrics with him, cos he'd forgotten them!
So I reckon if the author of the lyrics forgets them, no biggie if I do :p

And ahh yes, good ol' RUFTA...

certainly surprising to see State Of Emergency battle it out with Modern Artillery!
i wonder which way that will go...
i hold the former much higher, obviously

the other day at work was really slow so i sang selt-titled from start to finish including solos under my breath
actually really enjoyed it :p
...except that i could not for the life of me remember the opening music of Save The Day!
took me ages to work it out!

Colezy

As soon as I read your post and how you couldn't remember the opening the Save The Day, it popped into my head instantly :p love that song!

I struggle to associate music with a song title. Sometimes lyrics too. I can tell you 100% that it's The Living End, but what song...i'm not sure yet!

paulvroc

okay so not quite ready to let this poll die yet...we only have 28 votes, whereas other polls can sometimes get up to 35-40ish
come on people, chuck us a vote!

Followed VERY closely by ST

Been wondering about thia question for a while...and now i've come to this decision;
White Noise, I rate as the bands best album, but it's always been a hard call for me between SOE and S/T for favourite (kinda basing this on repeat value)...

Ended up going with the S/T but that's no disrespect to the other albums, naturally. ;)
I just can't go by the raw energy and beat of those early songs- get'n me totally pumped. :D

haha, kudos to you
i think a lot of people have SOE second..which is a shame, as i think it deserves to be much higher than where it is.
MA beating WN is a big surprise, for me...

yeah, i considered this just after making the poll
the best we could do is '2nd favourite' and '3rd favourite' polls...which wouldn't be the greatest lol

I don't know what it is with Mod Art, but it is definitely one of my favourites. That and then probably the early stuff like Hellbound-S/T. But then again White Noise really does it for me as well.
