Ok people. So we're into the back half of the tracks now. So far self titled is clearly winning. Here's the list so far:
Track 1 - Till the End - SOE
Track 2 - Growing Up - TLE
Track 3 - Second Solution - TLE
Track 4 - West End Riot - TLE
Track 5 - Carry Me Home - RO, tied with Wake Up - SOE
Track 6 - Monday - TLE
Track 7 - All Torn Down

Track 8 should be a tight contest with some pretty sick tunes in there! Vote away. If you're not happy with the results of the past polls and haven't voted then get voting!

It was a 2 horse race for me. Save the day is a wicked song but I went for blood just cause I think its a really well written song and I loved it from the first time I heard it.

this is gonna take some consideration for me
Save The Day...cos its Save The Day versus One Step Behind for the epicness of the song including horns and a typical TLE build up

One step behind :)

STD vs BOYH vs Kid. Epic choice required.

I had a listen to all of these in a row and it's harder to choose after that than just from memory.

looks like it...but there's still time and people to vote. I'm suprised Kid hasn't done better based on a lot of reaction it got when WN was released.

Maitland Street

Save The Day

Kid

One Step Behind

Very Tough List Too Complete>

The Top Three Are in my top living end songs

Another tough decision:

1. One Step Behind - Awesome build-up and intense ending. Win.
2. Save the Day - Still a favourite, and has always been so as one of the first of the bands songs I came across. Very close 2nd.
3. Kid - Fantastic song but guess I prefered the energy and epicness of Save and One Step.
4. Blood on Your Hands - A strong song with great lyrics- but another unlucky Roll On contender not to be higher.
5. Maitland Street - Process of elimination- thus 5th...though it's not one of my TLE favourites.

i'd have to disagree...BOYH is crazy with the drum fills and musicianship and all...
but OSB is a really epic track. the build up, the horns, the ending, the theme...excellent song

I totally didn't expect one step behind to come anywhere near the top! I thought save the day would run away with it.

I'm surpised that Kid didn't get anywhere near the top.

Well, each of these songs are as great as each other, Maitland Street was just a nose in front.

I'd day all 5 are strong songs. and Maitlan str is not an exception for me

Save The Day - Seems like a standard rock song. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, just doesn't have that specialness.
Blood On Your Hands - I'd have to be in an upbeat mood already, jumping around and shouting with mates upbeat. Sort of like the rest of Roll On.
Maitland Street - Really depends if I'm in the "MA vocals don't piss me off" mood or not. Damn processing. Once it's past the intro I don't mind either way.
One Step Behind - If I'm in an active listening mood then the Live @ Festival Hall version would win.
Kid - Can always listen to and gets me in a good mood. Sort of standard like Save The Day, just 'easier'.

I'll have to go with BOYH since I'd only really hear it when I'm drunk and singing with my mates, and that's always shiny. I think I listen to Kid the most though.

wow
tied three ways!
somebody jump on One Step Behind and push it over!
yeh, really for me Save The Day, One Step and Blood are all about the same
then Kid...Maitland Street bringing up the rear, like most MA tracks for me

Wish they'd put it back into the setlist...

Woo!! I hope so!! Shadow, I know you're a fellow Roll On fanboy, so I bet you're excited about that possibility as well.

Maybe off-topic, but my friend got to interview the band when they toured SOE in the US, and when he was discussing the horn-section they brought with them around Australia on that tour, he pointed out that it would enable them to dust off a lot of unplayed older songs that had horn sections (I.E. Blood On Your Hands), and I believe it was Andy who said...

"Yeah yeah, you know you're right, we could....but we won't." *sobs*

I'll do track 9 on the weekend... But I must say I really didn't see one step behind being such a close rival. I thought Save the day had it in the bag.

The horn-section IS expensive, which is why the band didn't bring them over to the US leg of their tour, but when my friend asked about them possibly bringing some "horny" songs (there's no way I can believe glenn used that phrase coincidentally) into the setlist, it was in reference to Aussie shows where they had the horn section.

They are definitely a "crowd-pleaser" type of band, which is why I think their setlist tends to be "hit" heavy. I remember after a performance of Black Cat (and the ensuing lukewarm crowd response), Chris saying something along the lines of "some songs are for the crowd, some songs are for the band, just the way it is..."

I think we should put together a Living End exchange-program, where a US/UK/European etc. fan could go over and see them in Australia (in order to experience the thrill of seeing them in a large, high-production, passionate "arena" environment where they draw large crowds) and an Aussie fan could go over and see them at a US show (in order to experience a sweaty, intimate, inches-away-from-the-rock little club show).

Although you Aussies do get Longnecks shows...bastards.

Colezy
06-18-2009, 03:09 PM
Oh ok. I misread the post. I haven't read the whole of this thread either :p

The exchange thing sounds awesome though! I'd happily have someone at my house, only thing is that they don't do gigs in Tassie :p

We could totally do it!! We could set up some kind of unofficial contest and everyone would have to throw in a certain amount of money to enter and then the winner(s) would have the money for the tickets and...*continues to daydream*

I used to (and still do, although not as often) fantasize about Australia as some sort of wonderland where I would be liberated from the alienation and general crapiness I feel in my country of origin. I still do like to picture it that way, the only negative thing I've come up with so far is, I'm a pop culture-junkie, and i've noticed that when there are multiple versions of a film/dvd/etc., the Australian version is often heavily edited/censored or sometimes not released at all. Which surprised me, cos it always seemed to me that you Aussies had a rugged-yet-easy-going spirit. After all, you started out as convicts....

Still, just the fact that it was such a close competitor is awesome...there's SOO many bands out there where people don't even CONSIDER the newer stuff they do, and demand constant repetition of early stuff ad nauseum. The only time that's okay, in my book, is when you're talking about Green Day. :p

TLE fans mature along with the band...nothin' like the feeling when you hear a "future classic" for the first time. Sitting at my computer at 4 am waiting for "Who's Gonna Save Us?" to debut on Aussie radio comes to mind...even though that's ollllld by now.

Haha, I remember that someone ripped it and posted a link to it on the forum. So for me "Who's gonna save us" in the first months always began with "This is the new one from The Living End. It's called WGSU and here on Triple J you hearing it very, very first.." Classic! ;)
