yeah, thats been on my mind too. but i'm sure once they have a big pile of news or once they go in to record their next album or something like that they'll use the e-mail list again.
...least i hope they do...

Yeah, i presume they'll still use it. They should. The last bulletin should have gone out via email too but it didn't...hopefully in future they will.

I was listening to 'Black Cat' the other day and noticed at the very end of the song, you can hear some talking. Did they mean to keep that in there? http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/fragend/confused-smiley-013.gif

It's Andy saying "my hi-hats fell apart", and I assume they meant to leave it in there.....otherwise it's a pretty big thing to overlook! :)

What's Trav doing now?
I read in a newspaper article recently, that he is running drumming workshops for up and coming bands. Perhaps teaching them the tricks of the trade like, jumping into cameras post-gig and breaking teeth. totally punk

Ok I posted this before but no one answered it. How tall are the guys like if anyone stood next to them. i'm weird about peoples heights. i saw them live, but it was hard to tell from right in front of the stage. all i need is an estimate. im always surprised at people heights cos like Billie Joe from Green Day is as tall as me but he seems so tall in on TV
kelso
02-12-2007, 05:40 AM
Chris is...taller than Billie for sure
hard for me to decipher cuz when I met him we were standing on steps and I was on a higher step lol
just average height I 'spose
Kacky
02-12-2007, 05:52 AM
Billie's a shrimp. :p He just looks tall 'cause he wears creepers.
Chris is definately taller.

02-12-2007, 07:47 AM
i was lookin on this sight and it was like enter your height and Billie Joe was on it he's like 5' 5.75" he's as tall as me im like jeez for how tough he acts, he's a little guy.
The Dying Start
02-12-2007, 10:34 AM
He doesn't act tough does he? Anyway, little people tend to be more angry anyway because they're opressed.
When has Billie Joe ever looked tall? The whole band are tiny!
Deanis
02-12-2007, 12:34 PM
Youd be suprised most bands are pretty short, and when a tall band member comes along they look lanky as. Yes the TLE guys are 'short', but I'm 6"2, so hard to say. I'd say theyd all average 5"6'?
i_heart_you

doubt it. i'm 5'4" and they're quite a bit taller than me.
TreCoola
02-12-2007, 02:03 PM
My friends really odd about peoples heights too. We met Frank from MCR and she was taller than him..it made her uncomfortable.
Lucky me I'm only 5'4 so people are generally the same height or taller.

Paul Dempsey from SFK is too friggin tall.

Ooo, pick me - I have a question.
Are the boys going to be recording the new album with Nick Launay, or a different producer? Nick's got that excellent sound he brings out and I hope they choose to work with him again, SOE has an excellent live feel. (Roll On, too.)

The Dying Start

Scotto is the shortest from memory, yeah.
In the photos of me with them, Scott looks the tallest by quite a bit, although he was wearing creepers so that's probably why.

I know this is retarded
but yeah
has Australia ever had snow?
or have you ever seen snow?
Kacky
02-14-2007, 02:32 PM
One of my online friends that lives over there, said she's seen snow fall only once.
A couple people I've talked to said they've seen snow over there, but it doesn't last very long, if it does fall. Haha.
They don't get dumped on like we do though. :p
kelso
02-14-2007, 02:34 PM
they dont have mountains do they?
soory, my geography class failed to visit Australia in its lesson plan :p
AlinaPOW
02-14-2007, 02:47 PM
Yeah we have snow but only up in the mountains. Skiing's pretty popular. But yeah, only certain parts of Aus get the snowfall...
Disease
02-14-2007, 02:55 PM
There's snow on Mt Kosciuszko pretty much all year (if not all year). I went there in summer one year and there was still snow on it.
There is snow in lots of different places in Australia, but there's just a lot more where you'll never find snow. ;)
AlinaPOW
02-14-2007, 02:56 PM
That's a good way of putting it!
kelso
02-14-2007, 03:00 PM
hey cool haha thanks
The Dying Start
02-14-2007, 03:46 PM
Some of the peaks in Tassie also have snow up top a vast majority of time...i think.
There's the main difference, we have the hottest and driest continent...so any flat lying areas will very rarely be cold enough to have snow. Tall mountain ranges will get snow. But because we don't all live in the mountains..most of us live on the beach, we don't get to see snow much if at all. We do have ski resorts and such for those of us who want to go to the snow.
Aaron
02-14-2007, 04:58 PM
Also, our highest mountain is only ~2200m (~7000ft), so that doesn't exactly help. Our highest 'mountains' are nought more than mid-sized hills to most other continents.
So yes, we get snow. But it is very localised, there's not much of it, and it isn't permanent.
So whenever anyone from Australia talks about 'mountains', or 'a fair bit of snow', or says that 'skiing is popular' - it means absolutely nothing on American/European scales :p
The Dying Start

since were on the topic of australia, i've had a burning question that i've wanted to ask an aussie for awhile....
i read a book on oz where they made it seem like australians don't like to talk about the aboriginals, and that they're kind of shunned from normal australian society. is this true? and why?
yeah, i might know more if we actually learned about australia in school. i just looked, and it has one reference in my social book; "Australia also sent troops to aid in the war effort" (in regards to WWII). hm. noice.

Once apon a long time ago when the english came to australia, they wanted the country to be a "white australia" so they made aboriginies half-caste to eventually drain them of their dark skin colour and then the aboriginies got pissed off and then we said sorry a few years ago. People stereotype all aboriginies to be 'bad' because usually the ones they see out in public are the violent ones with alcohol problems becuase they didnt want to go to school and dont get help because a few aboriginies refuse to deal with 'white people' because they are still pissed off at what happened and now they have special rights and stuff and when you fill out a form alot of the time it asks you if you are an aboriginal or torres straight islander. and thats why people discriminate aboriginies because they feel they are 'different'. we have heaps of famous aboriginal australians too and they are like the peoples people for the aboriginals, pretty much the only effective way for them to speak out about stuff is through these people because other people are ignorant.
I dont know if that helped you, but you might want to get more opinions on this... i don't think I am a very reliable source of information :p
The Dying Start
02-15-2007, 09:47 AM
Not a bad crack at it. Dunno about the whole half-caste bit...they I don't think they set out to do that particularly...I think that just happened over time.
There are a few main factors which shape th relationship of today.
#1: The English Settled in Australia and took that land that the native people use for natural food, hunting and shelter and turnedthem into farmland.
#2: Much like America, Aboriginals were taken to be used as slaves
#3: One of the greatest sore points is the "Stolen Generation". Children were taken from ther families to be brought up in white society.
The single biggest issue in the past and today is simply discrimination. Some people just can't get it through their thick skull that people are just people. HOWEVER, there are HUGE numbers of Aboriginal people who make matters worse for their people by breaking the law, drinking and sniffing petrol. For some reason Aboriginals are just more susceptible to tis kind of stuff...I'm not entirely sure why. But there are huge problems with it.
We do have a great many fantastic Aboriginal role models though, not surprisingly a majority of them made their name in the sporting arenas. They're esentially built for physicality. Some of them still have the in-built self-distruct clause though...like Football Star Michael Long, who whilst he was a fantastic footballer, and is still a fantastic role model, has somehow gone from a skinny kid to some form of advertising blimp.
To answer the question at hand though. Most Australians wouldn't hesitate to talk about the Aboriginal people. The only embarrassment we might feel is the way our forefathers treated them. And perhaps some of our peers still do treat them. They're not shunned by the majority, in fact most of the Aboriginal people make up their own mind to stay away.
That's my 5c
Hahaha. Oh man. I love Glenn's last post so much that it's going in my sig! :p You should feel proud Glenn - you're the first forumer to be quoted in my signature!
Awww...I feel honoured. I haven't featured in a signature for YEARS!
Not a bad crack at it. Dunno about the whole half-caste bit...they I don't think they set out to do that particularly...I think that just happened over time. ...
I thought they did it purposely... well thats the impression I got from the rabbit proof fence movie, and my history teacher said thats why they had the reconciliation day.
The Dying Start
02-15-2007, 08:35 PM
You may well be right. Bit of an ambitious scheme given the numbers of indigenous people vs white people, to breed them out of their colour. But I suppose pretty much everything that happened back then was preposterous and overly ambitious.

I cant believe how similar USA and Australia are
I cant remember what interview it was....either the Scott one or the Chris one; I just read it recently. anyway, one of them was saying that America has a lot of influence on Australia, and I thought that was kind of interesting. I thought like the UK would have more influence

02-16-2007, 01:00 PM
yeah
pretty interesting :)
our schooling systems are similar
i_heart_you
02-16-2007, 01:34 PM
i think so. but i dont understand what second schooling and first schooling or whatever are.
and you guys say 'i'm in year 9.' does that mean you're in 9th grade or what?
also, i remember someone from oz asking me what 'freshman, sophmore, junior and senior' means, so aussies don't use those terms either.
kelso
02-16-2007, 01:36 PM
yeah i think year 9 means 9th grade
it's like the same thing
yeah I dont know what secondary is either
where does university come into play? haha
woot go seniors :D
Colezy
02-16-2007, 01:38 PM
Yep, year nine/grade nine - same thing!
We have primary school, which is kinder (or pre-school) through to grade 6 (in most states). Then there's High School which is grade 7 - 10, but some schools are grade 7 - 12. For the schools that are 7 - 10, the students usually go on to College which is grades 11 - 12. Then there is Uni for however many years the course is.
Oh and there is TAFE if you dont want to do uni.
We don't use 'freshman, sophmore, junior and senior'. Some schools, mainly, private schools, use junior/senior though.
Kacky
02-16-2007, 01:39 PM
We use junior and senior for kindergarten. Haha.
So, I was five years old and a senior, boo yeah!
kelso
02-16-2007, 01:42 PM
ohh ok
yeah some schools are different here
we've got K-6 called Elementary
then 7-8 (or sometimes 6-8) called Middle/Junior High
then 9-12 is High School
and then college/university
most people call it college, but there is a difference
uni is like a big major college, like one that i'll be going to in a few months:D
and then colleges or community colleges are smaller and have more basic courses
Colezy
02-16-2007, 01:42 PM
A 5 yr old that is a senior - awesome! :p haha
Kacky
02-16-2007, 01:43 PM
We have Elementary School (K-8) and then highschool (9-12), college and university. It's rare to see a middle school in this part of Canada, although some places out west have them.

TLE question time! How did Rae become their manager? I'm not sure if I know or not.
i_heart_you
02-16-2007, 01:53 PM
no, 9 is considered high school around here.
and BOCES is just a new york thing i think. it's basically for dropouts. if they know they aren't going to college, (can't afford it, can't get into one, need money asap) they go to a local college for half a day (spend the other half in the high school) and take small business courses such as cosmotology, early childhood education, and i think police force(?). there's other stuff too, but i can't remember.
it helps kids from poor families who are going to turn to street crime to get by when they graduate from college. the government hopes that by sending them to BOCES, they'll get a real job and become part of middle class society.

Ok thanks, I thought it was around the time of Roll On I just wanted to make sure
The Dying Start
02-20-2007, 05:59 PM
Well Roll On was 2000, so youre not far off!
Yeah, I think he used it in the Roll On music video, so I thought he must have got it around then because according to the FHOI DVD he doesn't seem to use Falcons pre Roll On which actually leads me to my next question:
There are meant to be 2 music videos for Roll On (the soccer one and the pinball one) however, there appears to be two versions of the pinball one (making 3 all up) The FHOI Roll On video appears to be an edited version of an older video which I saw on the VH1 website. Does anyone know whats up with this?
The Dying Start
02-21-2007, 05:43 PM
In what way do the "two" Pinball ones differ?
Well in the non-FHOI version you don't see Scott stand up on his DB, you don't see Trav twirl his drum sticks and the words "The Living End" are alot bigger when thay flash up in the beginning. There's more but i can't remember at this point in time.
EDIT: found the non-FHOI video, you do actually see Scott stand on his DB in this version, it's just not as noticeable

He's a tv show host in Australia.
Reminds me a bit of a gorilla.. this photo doesn't really show his gorilla-esque qualities though

I think he does Australian Idol, some stuff on Channel V (a music channel on foxtel), a game show and maybe other stuff.
Unless you're talking about another Andrew G in which case I'm an idiot :p

Since I first heard this particular version of PITM, I've wanted to know what exactly it is that Chris yells out during this part:
"...Pictures in the mirror, always reflecting -GUITAR UP*something something*...not such an ordinary..."
For anyone who has the song (PITM, Lowlands Festival), it comes in at around 1 min 23 sec :)
Just the one.. atleast that's the only one I know of! Why do you ask?
I remember watching video hits one day, when tabloid mag. first came out, with my cousin and he was saying how he hated TLE and I swear the clip was all colourful and it had swirls and stuff and I thought I may have gotten it mixed up with roll on because one of them is pretty colourful but I swear it was Tabloid magazine because there is no way in hell that it was trav on the drums in this clip... so I guess if there isnt another clip for this song then perhaps there was another band out there around the time which also has gretsch guitars and double basses and if that is the case, does anyone know what band that is?

I can't check now, but I will later. He usually enthuses crowd then. Is't it usually a "c'mon" or something? I'll have a listen later though.
Nah I don't think he's enthusing the crowd.. I thought it was something directed at the sound guy but I couldn't work out what either.

they better be on warped tour!!!
thats the only reason i'll go is to meet them and hang around with them...
every year warped tour plays at the Toyota Pavilion like 20 miles away from my house and i never went. they played in philly the day warped tour was in PA though... probably followed the uses til Harrisburg than made a b-line for philly. they would've got a lot more fans if they played Warped Tour....

Yes, it was three of the band members' father Murry Wilson. And the audio was not just taken from a documentary it was actually from a Beach Boys recording session in 1965, the "Help Me, Rhonda" session I believe. The band would soon after (during the recording of Help Me, Rhonda) fire him as the manager of the band after his constant (and infamous) physical beatings and verbal tirades. One of his most famous quotes is his comment to his son Brian Wilson of "I'm A Genius Too".

I would say he used them in the recording, gut strings are easier on the hands when slapping and since this song has quite a bit of slap in it, it is quite likely he used them
He does a fair bit of slapping in a lot of songs though and still uses steels. There's nothing wrong with him using guts (although I find the concept of gut strings kinda gross), I was just curious because he's used steels for so long and he used to do a lot more slapping in the earlier days.

I'm no muso, so I'm unsure exactly what strings are on the bass in the clip. I would say however that you shouldn't make any connection with the clip and the actual recording! He probably would have recorded with his normal strings and setup. (Probably with his midnight blue bass, coz it seems there is a percieved better sound coming out of that).
The bass in the clip is just one of his acoustic basses that he plays at home. I'm pretty sure it has no pickups or anything. It's essentially just there for looks.
Anyway, I don't know any of that for absolute certain, but from what I've seen and heard it's what makes the most sense, in my opinion.
Yeah, that sounds about right, thanks :)

tres questions!
1. How did E Boogie originate?
2. Did Chris write it? if not, where is it from?
3. during what era or around what year did Chris start playing it at shows and keeping it on the set list?

It used to be called Psycho Twist (or Psycho T) and it was around during Roll On era atleast.
And yes it's a big mix of heaps of different fingerpickin' rock and roll tunes. Don't ask me to name them though :p

I wonder if The Living End share pants!!
they share shirts so why not pants!
I don't think they actually share the one shirt, that would be a little weird, wouldn't it? I know that "Bang Bang" is a band that they toured with once so maybe they each got their own.

They probably get clothes mixed up on tour, I don't think they'd get a shirt each

E-Boogie was from around 2000. Yepp.
The current versions feature a blend of various tracks and riff, most noticable have been Mystery Train (Presley), Mr Sandman (Chordettes), Rude Mood (Stevie Ray Vaughan), with various solos and stuff chucked in there.
It originally had three solos.
Chris, Scott and Trav. Scott's was a pizicatto solo.
Scott then upgraded to the slap solo we have today, it's changed very little.
Chris' solo seems to be pretty much ad lib, but with common elements. The beer solo was reasonably new, as is the beer spitting.
When Trav left, Andy didn't take a solo, up until recently, where he now has one.

I gotta question, in the POS vid, in the beginning before the singing starts, theres a quick flash of something hanging on the wall and my friend was watchng it and thought it looked like underwear.
Can anyone screen cap this clip and verify it?
