Has chris been using his Power tenny (the red guitar, in Yana's sig) since he got that new black guitar? or has he replaced it?
and also, AWESOME photos, as usual ;)

Yes, we all forgot to mention that Chris testing a new Gretsch model - Brian Setzer Black Phoenix. He said gretsch gave it to him for try in a tour. It sounds damn good, especially on the clear sound without distortion, and it looks very good, so we think Chris will buy it. Andy also said if it's look so great it must be in a band's gear.
Chris didn't have the red one this tour, he took his two white falcons and signature Gretsch. So wait for Yana's pix fpr watch the black one closer.

Ahh so he's just testing a Black Phoenix. Nice. He should buy it for sure, looks great...I've liked it on him since he played Billy Joe's that time a few years back.

yea i like the Black Pheonix's.
hehe billie joe has a black 6120 (SIMILAR to the orange brian setzer model that chris plays), but he as modded the hell out of it.
still a nice guitar tho.

Madtwins
11-22-2009, 08:53 PM
Mmm, yeah! And Chris said that all new models of Gretcsh now sounded very good - better that old ones! So now all Gretsch users don't need to hunting for old vintage ones.

Mitch-PTV
11-22-2009, 09:00 PM
Yea i remember Brain Setzer saying something similar when he recorded the orchestras new album. aparenlty he didnt even use his 50's Gretsch. it was all done on his Pheonix/SSL/Hot Rods. i gota get me another Gretsch...

Love the black pheonix and i bet it sounds great on the clear sounds because of the TV classics as opposed to powertrons and classic plus's. I noticed that on one of the videos where he's using it. I hope he buys it!

Mitch-PTV
11-22-2009, 09:20 PM
haha i was gunna post about the pickups but i was gunna save it for the muso corner, cause most people wont know the difference.

while on the topic, are you getting a classic plus for yours benno?

and trust me, if Gretsch put a Phenoix in your hands, you wont say no to buying it. id say hed get an amazing discount aswell due to his endorsement and all.

I don't have much monies to last me the summer but i think i'd put in a bridge classic if i eventually do swap.

I'd love a pheonix so much!

There was a dude smoking on my tram the other day.. You don't see/smell it much anymore so it's a shock to the system.

I fully understand that people have these habits, and they can often struggle alot with such a destructive and addictive one...but i think the no smoking laws have been great, and as such those assholes who continue to flout the laws and smoke in such places are totally selfish losers. Have your vices, but don't submit everyone else to them too.

Yeah this guy was a right, royal, Holman Hunt. Was trying to intimidate people when he was getting off.. Commision housing 101.

The ban in bars has helped a lot of people I reckon. From an OH&S concern, it's not fair on hospitality workers to be working in a smokey environment, when for the most, they're being paid miserable wages anyhow.

Also, i know a lot of people who saw it as a great opportunity to kick them.. Not an easy thing to do either.

You can still smoke in pubs in NT for a few more months!

carrymehomestead
11-24-2009, 06:30 PM
In general, I totally understand you being glad that people can't smoke indoors and sort of infiltrate your personal (breathing) space....I imagine you are a non-smoker. Particularly in restaurants, when they allowed it, it was gross ..I remember thinking the whole concept of having smoking/non-smoking sections was ridiculous, considering they were like 10 feet apart...they did realize that air moves, right? However, even before I ever smoked at all I felt like a bar was SUPPOSED to be a smoky room, with grizzled locals and people playing pool and a sort of a loose, rugged atmosphere for vices to be freely partaken in. The actual smoking itself is obviously just a small part of that, I just sort of resent the fact that so many bars (at least here in New York) have been transformed so that they resemble a shitty club...bad dance music blaring and making it impossible to converse, obnoxious strobing lights, hipsters who can't hold their alcohol, terrible dancing etc.. I just sort of long for the days where bars were BARS!!...if anybody here has seen Trainspotting, I sort of mentally picture the inside of one of the pubs they hang out in the movie.

Sorry I've gotten so off-topic...although it is interesting how The Living End are a rare rock 'n' roll band in that they keep their smoking (and other potential debauchery, obviously minus the traditional beer-theatrics) on the down low. Scott's the only one who admits that he smokes and openly does it, although on a few tours I've seen Andy clandestinely joining him a few times.

As far as performers being exceptions to the rules, a band can pretty much get away with partaking in anything on the stage, assuming it's not like...the unknown local band from down the street on open mic night. They're not gonna throw out the musicians who have brought all the fans (or more accurately, all the $$$) to the venue unless they absolutely have to...the show must go on!

Also, Glenn and co., what about a person at a show smoking a joint in the crowd?? I mean that's pretty common fare (especially if its a mellow/trippy band) and it's not something you could really leave, stand outside the club, and walk back in to do. I used to do it all the time, and again I feel like it's part of the rock 'n' roll atmosphere, everything can't be so pristine, ya know?

Is this retardedly off-topic????

The Dying Start
11-24-2009, 08:41 PM
Yes, retardedly off-topic!

Andy has admitted he's a casual smoker, i don't think there's any secret squirrels about it. And i remember there was utter outrage on the forums a few years back when someone somewhere mentioned something about the band smoking marijuana. Like their squeaky clean image was forever tarnished or something. The bottom line is illegal drugs are illegal, and whether someone partakes in that kinda thing or not is their business and it shouldn't really be spoken of when not in their presence...especially in this situation when a popular band is involved.

Never seen anyone light up a joint at a show...but then i haven't seen Cypress Hill live yet. I have smelt it occasionally, but i still maintain if you want to get high, why subject me to it? Go in the loos or something and get out of my face.

Fuck the "rock & roll atmopsphere" and whatever one single person thinks a show should be...i think 99% of the patrons come there to see the band play, not immerse themselves in second hand smoke and rowdy arseholes...despite the fact it's probably commonplace.

Colezy
11-24-2009, 09:21 PM
hehe, I remember the marijuana thing :p

I think it was bought up because of a small section during the From Here On In DVD. And also because Andy was smoking when Sarah and I saw him & Chris in Launceston during the SOE tour.

ANYWAY:

Great photos Yana :) I love them!
And great stories too - from everyone!! Sounds (and looks) like the whole tour has been heaps of fun!

Damn!!! Glenn and guys! How jealous we are reading your cigarettes-off topic talks!!! Damn again! At all the gigs in Kiev we are dying in cigarette smog!!! Mad Heads XL playing in club-pub where every old and young bastards smoking all the time!!! What a wonderfull land is Australia!!! Our popular bands smoking, smoking marijuana and sound is so shitty at the gigs that we always have headache and noise in ears after it! If our bands can be kicked up for smoking dope it would be awesome!

So compare to our popular bands - Scotty and Andy are 100% non-smokers!

I'm a smoker and even I'm glad that smoking is banned in pubs.. In general I don't like smoking around those who don't smoke. I'll always make an effort to stand on the side of where the wind is blowing away from the group. (most folks I know don't smoke)
Though I admit, at festivals I'll light up in the mosh pit, mostly if I'm front row not as much if I'm not..

It's odd to go into a restaurant in the States (Michigan is where we always go) and be asked a smoking preference.

...on another note, I'm listening to White Noise right now, and it's so odd to hear the songs from the actual CD. Seeing them seven times in a row really made me get used to the live versions.

It's more fashionable to die in Australia than in Paris!

No way!!! I've got an Australian flag displayed in my room in recognition of my infatuation with Oz, but you can't beat Paris in the "most fashionable place to die" department...if there was such a department. This is the weirdest debate ever. Anyway, besides the fact that the city (and the French as a whole) has a sort of gloomy, romantic nihilism about it ("Dee-struct-shunnn eez a form aff cree-ay-shun", etc), Jim Morrison set that standard when he kicked the bucket there back in the day. I mean, who else gets kicked out for partying too hard over 20 years after their death??? THEY KICKED HIM OUT OF THE CEMETERY!!

Wow, I compulsively go off-topic. I am the worst forumer ever. Forgive me.

I'm gonna come to Australia and smoke a joint in the crowd now just to see if I get decked or not. I would've thought a nation derived from convicts would have been more rough-and-tumble rule breakers...go figure.

On another note, as I've been glomming over all these photos, is it just me or do they (especially Chris) seem somehow...more...buff?? How do I make this not sound gay?? Or maybe make it sound extra gay?

We're disagree, we mentioned Paris because here is abyword - "To see a Paris and die". But for us it's goal now - if we manage to get to Au - for sure we can die in peace!

I'm gonna come to Australia and smoke a joint in the crowd now just to see if I get decked or not.

Maybe not, we think there people are so cultural so they let you be as self-distructive as you want. It's a cuestion of tolerance.

Don't be such a exacting! We don't thik it is. How they can look buff if they had gig each day, no hotels and no normal rest!? For us TLE are tiny super - tighten guys. And they are even not so tall as we thought before!
Watch our ukrainian popular bands - what a beefcakes! Don't even want to say their names - this is mainstream bands and singers.

Yana is right, Buff is a good thing now. It generally means someone of toned physique. Like someone who has worked out and now has some muscle definition.

You could say that Jacob in Twilight has buffed up for New Moon!:woot:

No!! You found a way to segue into a Twilight reference. You dastardly fiend...

What did buff ever mean besides muscular?? I know Scots use "buftie" derogatorily, but thats different.

Who knows what those crazy Euros use Buff for. It's probably like Muff, but on a boy. Boymuff. Buff. Hells yeah.

I'm now regretting telling you how to change your signature too.

it can also mean nakie. "in the buff"

there's actually 7 definitions of it as a noun, 1 as an adjective and 5 as a verb on the OED but most of them are pretty outdated or obscure.

Here's one of them: "1708-15 Buff..a dull Sot, or dronish Fellow.
1725 New Cant. Dict. s.v., Buff, a Newgate Cant Word used in familiar Salutation: as, How dost do, my Buff?
1748 SMOLLETT Rod. Rand. (1812) I. iv. 15 Mayhap old buff has left my kinsman here his heir.
1764 BRYDGES Homer Travest. (1797) II. 420 You seem afraid these buffs will flinch"

"how dost do, my buff?" hahahahahahah

It's a database of popular bands (or at least their guitarist[s]) stage setup, usually from a specific year, and it even gives an accompanying visual representation of each piece of equipment (pedals/switches/amps/cabinets/etc) and how they're linked together. It's insanely detailed, generally amazingly specific and accurate (I'm thinking it must be culled from roadies, tour managers, and not just images) and DELIGHTFULLY geeky.

It doesn't seem to cover TOO many bands, especially of the obscurer variety, but I stumbled upon it trying to find out how Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine made some of those ungodly noises from Loveless, and was very impressed by how detailed the info was. Sorry, I rambled...

I only used my camera with 28mm lens.
I wish I had flash or any other light source, cause I rejected few shots where Scotty's face was far out of focus (I had to use f3.5 aperture to make photos brighter). Natural light wins!
Also, we weren't choosing location. I knew about session 5 minutes beforehand (apparently that's how long it takes Chris to use eyeliner :p ).

Chris
thank you :)
it was a spontaneous photoshoot, so we just took some photos nearby the venue (Conne Island in Leipzig). It was outskirts of the city so we had this unusual landscape with ramps for skateboarders and barrels with burning trash. (Chris(comes outside, smells the smoke): "Are you guys burning fires?")
Chelsea, while shooting it was only me and guys there. Sasha was not far away and Madtwins came when we were finishing already. So I don't think you would see much interesting things going on during those 10 minutes (except for my wandering between heaps of trash when I had to come down from the ramp). Stop blaming your sleep spasm =)

Once upon a time (this summer actually) people on this forum suggested me to start selling prints of my TLE photos. I'm half way through organising this deal. I wonder how many people like this idea...I think mainly it will be posters (A2 size - 40x60cm) for around 33AUD and laminated prints (A4 size) for 25AUD. Maybe prices are a little too high, but I have to face basic price which is lowest I could find among this kind of print-selling sites.
I want to save some money to fly to Australia for Longnecks gigs :ermm: (yes I know I won't earn that much even in 5 years of sales but I have to try at least...)

believe me it's even harder for me to choose best among 170 concert shots I got after post-processing procedures.
Anyways. There's no such site in Australia so I chose US one with lowest shipping rates to Aussie. (10AUD for poster in tube)
I'll also create one or two posters with all 3 boys.

sounds great Yana!
hmmm, now i just have to chose a photo! id love one with this Power Tenny.

and im sure thered be plenty of people who would want quality TLE photos.
im not sure abuot the TLE logo, would you be aloud to use it? in the muso corner, Dave (thecolonel) built a pedal, and he used part of another brands name (it was originally a joke, but then it caught on) and there was so much abuse thrown at him by people at another forum, calling it breach of copywrite and whatnot, and making a profit of other peoples designs (even tho dave done it 100% legally and ethically, things really got bad)

im just saying, id double check about using the logo, becasue there are alot of douches out there that will cause problems for you, even if they arent associated with the living end or anything like that.
the odds are you'll be fine, but its just an extra problem that you dont need.

how are you going to get this working anyway Yana? are you going to offer certain photos, or are you going to have your whole gallery up for people to choose?

I'll upload as many good photos as I can find (I mean best and diverse ones). Then if I miss something worthy you're all welcome to suggest photo you want to be printed so I'll add that one to my gallery on redbubble.com.
You choose print/shipping options all by yourself.
At this stage I just need to prepare photos and maybe edit some more.
It's a pity about logo, but I think if it will be just "the living end" text designed by me then it's ok? Though it's not obligatory, but I think in some cases additional text looks cool.

sounds like a goood idea ;)
(make sure you have plenty of Power Tenny ones!:))

Using the logo could be fine, im just thinking abuot the problems that dave had, but this could be completely different. Using the words "the" "living" and "end" on a poster should be fine if you design it tho.

heh as you can see Chris brought only falcons, signature and phoenix to this tour. So Power Tenny photos aren't that cool as my newest ones, but I will surely find couple of decent shots! (it's a red guitar that is in my sig, right? :))

Yep, thats the tenny in your sig :)
yea i noticed that, which is a shame, because i love those photos, but i just think itd be cool to have a poster of chris playing my guitar hehe.
i guess i have to buy a tenny poster AND one of the europe tour ones then.

I know someone who made their own t-shirt designs to support their fan website, and she ended up having lawyers after her because they used the performers name on it, not even logos!

We always wandering what it means? Remember that in South Park kyle gifted such table game to Cartman and told that it's good game.

I don't know what this game or South Park reference is. Here it is a phrase "do you have ants in your pants?" you say if someone cannot sit still because they're hyperactive or excited or something.

Sounds like a cool idea, Yana!!

But be very careful about selling high res images of bands for your own personal gain. A lot of band managers/management companies wont take the matter very lightly :(

I know that TLE and TLE HQ are generally pretty nice people and do a lot for us fans and all, but they are essentially trying to run a business and make the band money and stuff... so yeah, just be careful :)

(Hope that doesn't sound like I know it all and that I am lecturing you :ermm:)

I don't know, I've offered HQ concert photos to their management already but they didn't say anything about it in their reply. So I guess they just don't need it, otherwise I would send it in addition to HQ photoshoot ones they already have from me.

arguments?
I'm just curious how many photographers sell their work if it's that strict and "illegal". I mean, what's the use for these photos If I can't even have 15 bucks for selling few prints? there were no contracts signed and I offered the band evertthing I've done, and management isn't interested\don't need it or what else. Of course it's cool to have few thousands of photos lying on my hard drive and I appreciate that I was able to take all these shots but I really don't get HOW it may affect band's profit. If they wanted to do something with my photos then I would give it all to them, but I suppose it's understandable that I want these photos to be used and needed. Even if we're talking about 20 people who theoretically may buy prints.
Also Nicole - you said "be very careful about selling high res images of bands for your own personal gain" - I am NOT selling HQ photos, I'm selling prints. There's difference because when you sell print you still own a photo and rights on it are still yours. That's why on Getty Images it cost people 600$ to buy a photo (because they buy all rights on it), and when someone buys a print they only pay for printing, shipping and few bucks to photographer for his/her job.
Enough said, I've dropped an email to management so soon we will find out who was right.
